Author : Letizia Materassi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The aim of the contribute is the presentation of a “diversity” experience in a small italian local
context, characterised by recent immigration’s flows. In particular, we explore how food – and food habits,
recipes, etc. – could become “mean of integration”, improving knowledge, mutual understanding and
discovering both differences and similarities among people. In order to overcome prejudices and to
stimulate discussion, the study underlines the key-role of popular culture and the importance of realistic

LGBTI IMMIGRANTS IN ITALY AND ASYLUM RIGHTS: BETWEEN UNVOICED NEEDS, DISCRIMINATIONS AND LACK OF RECOGNITION |
Author : Giuseppe Masullo |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The present paper aims at underlining how Western countries help outline the debate on
gender differences, through a perspective which, more often than not, shows a certain degree of
ethnocentrism given its inability to take into consideration alternative models emerging in other
contexts – particularly those with an Islamic tradition. This aspect has been highlighted by the results
of a research on the problems posed by the asylum right recognition process to LGBTI foreigners in
the host countries. It draws attention to the agreement to a Western gay lifestyle model far from
simple and unquestioningly accepted by LGBTI migrants. |

LOCAL POLICY FOR MIGRANTS IN ROME |
Author : Folco Cimagalli |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The paper focuses on the process of integration of migrants in the Rome area. The study, based on a
quali-quantitative research, describe and provide guidance for a re-design of the integration system. The research
shows as the actual system is in fact unplanned and focused only on the slope of first assistance. It does not seem
adequate in providing assistance in integrating migrants to the city’s social system. Based on these indications,
the research presents some operational proposals aimed at improving the efficiency and overall effectiveness of
the services in place. |

Author : Lia Lombardi; Mara Tognetti Bordogna |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The research investigates the strategies and procedures for including immigrant women in
screening protocols for breast cancer and prevention of sexually-transmitted diseases. After analysing
health inequalities from a theoretical perspective, the article provides a comparative overview of the state of
health of the two populations in question (Milan and Beirut), interpreting various indicators of health. It
goes on to examine the data on prevention of female cancer and sexually-transmitted diseases in either
country. The attention then shifts to the results of field work, after consideration of some methodological
points, proceeding by analysis of focus group interviews conducted in Milan and Beirut. |

EUROPE AT THEIR FEET? FREE CIRCULATION, ECONOMIC CRISIS AND EXIT STRATEGIES OF RECENT PORTUGUESE EMIGRANTS TO THE EUROPEAN UNION |
Author : Pedro Candeias; João Peixoto |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :One of the rationales of the free circulation of people within the European Union (EU) is the enabling
of a larger and more efficient labour market, where workers can move according to economic reasons, regardless
of political barriers. The recent economic crisis overcoming the EU that started in 2008 and was aggravated by
the financial woes of the Southern countries has been a favourable context to migration changes. The main
objective of this paper is to discuss how Portuguese emigrants have behaved during the crisis, revealing their
main reasons for leaving, migration strategies, labour insertion, transnational links and future plans. |

STRANGERS AND FRONTIERS: THE SHARED CITIZENSHIP IN A BORDER REGION OF THE SOUTHERN EUROPE |
Author : Laura Bergnach; Marco Orioles |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Reading the past and recent history of the Friuli Venezia Giulia border area leads us to consider
this regional community as endemically and anthropologically peculiar. This in different ways: in the sense
of being a community that has experienced the dramatic consequences of living at the border, which here
has historically coincided with the bulwark of the West opposed to the collectivist system, opening the
syndrome of the boundaries. Indeed, to have experienced in the past and currently to test out in its
existential biography the richness and the complexity of different cultural references and communitarian
destinies, configuring a context of multiple belongings. Thus, the border becomes bridge. The presence of
historic, ethnic, linguistic and religious minorities socializes to a context characterized by a dynamic
relationship between the belonging and the loyalty. The regional community gives shape to an original
language, which is expressed like the ability to retain the idea of heterogeneity “as a universal condition”,
and the idea of particularity as an “original multiplicity of the universal world”. Further to these
experiences, more recently, the region is experiencing additional intense migration flows from various
national and ethnical origins. Familiarity with the policies for the protection of minorities evidenced, in this
way, the historical background of performing with practices, both at regional and municipal level, viable
for supporting the integration of immigrants. The benefits of immigration tend to compensate the involved
problems; the collective availability to the “give and take” in view of a general economic and social
progress becomes the commitment of the entire regional community. |

Author : María Cristina Romero Rodríguez |
Abstract | Full Text |

SANTE ET BIEN-ETRE DES IMMIGRES EN ITALIE. ETUDE SUR LES STYLES DE VIE |
Author : Lia Lombardi |
Abstract | Full Text |
