HIDRADENITE SUPURATIVA: RELATO DE CASO | Author : Gisela Pereira C. Lima, Gabriela S. N. da Silva, Alice S. A. de Queiroz, Livia C. M. Pino | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :To report a case of a patient with suppurative hidradenitis, presented clinical characteristics, established therapy and to point out the challenges of the treatment of this disease.Relato de Caso: Case study of a patient with recurrent suppurative hidradenitis in axillary regions and perianal region without improvement with cephalexin and sulfamethoxazole + trimethoprim (Bactrim) and topical solution. For the current clinical picture, the treatment selected for an antibiotic therapy with Tetracycline for two weeks, associated with Betametasoma with Gentamicin cream in lesions to relieve inflammation. No success was achieved in the therapy adopted until the present moment, being thus like the other therapeutic options or the surgical resection. Conclusion: The case in point shows that first-line treatment is not always effective and other types of therapy are needed. The high complexity of the treatment of this disease presents a challenge for the physicians, since it has innumerable therapeutic options that will not always solve the picture. Despite this, its recognition is easy since the diagnosis is clinical, only the anamnesis and the dermatological examination criterion allow the diagnostic conclusion that the earlier, the lower the chance of complication. |
| TRANSEXUALIDADE E CONDIÇÃO HUMANA | Author : Raquel Marques Paiva | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This article aims to demonstrate that transsexuals must have their fundamental rights and guarantees respected by all and protected by the State, through the analysis of Extraordinary Appeal No. 845,779, which deals with the use of the female public restroom by a female transsexual. Although there is still no specific legislation today, it is imperative that the transsexual have their fundamental rights recognized by the Judiciary and protected their dignity. In order to do this, it is necessary to weigh the rights to health, sexual freedom and equality of transsexuals with respect to the fundamental rights to the privacy and security of users of female biological sex, identifying in this case, which right will overlap, without therefore excluding to others. We will also address the right to name change and transgendered surgery as means envisaged by the transsexual in the search for self-acceptance and insertion in society. |

| CORRELAÇÃO DO HISTÓRICO FAMILIAR COM INCIDÊNCIA DE DIABETES, HIPERTENSÃO E CARDIOPATIAS | Author : Caroline G. Babinski, Vinícius Moreira Paladino, Caio Veggi Marinho, Thais Barbosa Alves, Renato Bayma Gaia, Leandro Raider | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Objective: To evaluate the incidence of elderly patients with diabetes, heart disease and hypertension, correlating with family history (FH) of first degree relatives with the same diseases. Methods:Descriptive study with a cross-sectional design, carried out by members of the Academic League of Sports Medicine and Exercise, Faculty of Medicine of Valença/RJ. The data were collected on Sundays in the Municipal Market of Valença/RJ in the period between March and November 2016. The sample consisted of 80 individuals of both sexes. Generalized and stratified analyzes were performed according to the age group, adults and elderly (= 60 years) and according to the existence or not of a family history of diabetes mellitus, systemic arterial hypertension and cardiopathies. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize the sample. In the inferential analysis to verify the relation of dependence of the variables was used Chi-square test, considering p = 0.05 to determine these differences. Data analysis was performed using the statistical package SPSS version 20.0. Results:The value of p = 0.007 (p=0.05) allows to affirm that there is a correlation between heart disease and family history. There were no correlations between systemic arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Conclusion:We conclude that the isolated family history of the individual is not a determining factor for the appearance of diseases such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus. On the other hand, the cardiopathies presented a correlation with the family history. |

| UTILIZAÇÃO DE PROGESTERONA DE LONGA AÇÃO INJETÁVEL EM VACAS LEITEIRAS SUBMETIDAS À INSEMINAÇÃO ARTIFICIAL EM TEMPO FIXO (IATF) | Author : Igor Sulex de Oliveira Santos, Mariana Guimarães Graciosa, Isis Lustosa Goulart de Souza | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Introduction:Progesterone is a sex hormone essential for ovarian balance, prepares the endometrium for maintenance of a new pregnancy, prevents uterine motility, inhibits estrus and pr ovulatory peak of LH. It has total importance for the maintenance of gestation of the bovine female. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of the use of progesterone supplementation in high production dairy cows submitted fixed-time artificial insemination. Materials and Methods:The experiment was carriedout in the city of Valença, state of Rio de Janeiro. Twenty cows of the girolando breed were randomly selected. The animals were submitted to the IATF procedure with the use of intravaginal progesterone at day zero (D0) and 24 hours after insemination (long acting progesterone). The diagnosis of gestation was performed in the D30, through palpation and transrectal ultrasonography. Results:In the experiment performed, 35% of the IATF pregnancy rate was obtained with long-acting injectable progesterone, notshowing a significant increase in relation to the previous year, which was 30% (without the use of long-acting progesterone). Conclusion: The results obtained, under the conditions in which the study was carried out, allowed to verify the use of long-acting injectable progesterone is not able to increase the rates of IATF. |
| ATIVIDADE DA IVERMECTINA E DO MEBENDAZOL SOBRE HELMINTOS DA SUPERFAMÍLIA STRONGYLOIDEA EM ANIMAIS DE TRAÇÃO | Author : Maximiliano de Souza Arantes, Amanda Campanate Casa Alta de Castro, Caroline da Matta Reis, José Ribeiro Junior, Camila de Carvalho Godinho, Anne Santos Amarante, Marcelo de Oliveira Henriques | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Introduction: Among the diseases that affect the horses, the parasitic diseases are among the most important. The parasites compete for the food besides causing irritation, intestinal hemorrhages, anemic pictures and other damages to the health, presenting greater severity, according to the greater degree of infection of the animal. However, even mild infections can affect the development and performance of horses. Objective:The objective of this study was to compare the activity of Ivermectin and Mebendazole on Strongyloidea helminths in traction animals. Materials and Methods: Twelve horses of traction were selected, which were positive in coproparasitological examination. These animals were divided into two groups, one treated with ivermectin, the other treated with mebendazole. Tests were performed on days +7 and +14 in order to verify the efficiency of the different treatments. RESULTS:Those who composed the group treated with Ivermectin presented negativity on the OPG examination on the 7th day after treatment, remaining negative on the 14th day. In the group treated with Mebendazole, no animal presented negativity on the two experimental days after treatment. Conclusion:Although ivermectin was superior to mebendazole in reducing Strongyloidea helminth OPG, further studies need to be performed to confirm the results obtained in this study. |

Of the patients, 156 were men (59%) and 109 women (41%). In males the most prevalent type was prostate cancer (19.2%), followed by lung (12.8%), esophagus (11.5%) and intestine (6.4%). In women, cervical and lung cancer had the same number of hospitalizations, 11 patients (10.1%), followed by bowel cancer (9.2%) and esophagus (8.3%).Conclusion:The analysis of these data allows a better knowledgeof theoncologicalscenarioofthecityof Valença, RJ, constitutingan important tool to identify the major deficiencies and needs, and from there tracing preventive and early diagnosis actions, increasing the chances of a better prognosis for the patients. |
| RELAÇÃO ENTRE A PRÁTICA DE ATIVIDADE FÍSICA E RENDIMENTO ACADÊMICO EM ESTUDANTES DE MEDICINA NA CIDADE DE VALENÇA/RJ | Author : Thyago Bacelar Vieira, Vinícius Moreira Paladino, Renato Bayma Gaia, Daniele Amatto Ribeiro, Caio Veggi Marinho, Leandro Raider | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Objective:To analyze if the practice of physical exercise influences the development / academic performance of the students of the Faculty of Medicine of Valença/RJ. Material and methods:Descriptive study with a cross-sectional design carried out bymembers of theAcademic League of Sports Medicine and Exercise. The sample was composed of 166 medical students from the 1st to the 12th period. Students were randomly selected within each period of the course. To determine the level of physical activity, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was applied. Academic achievement was diagnosed through self-assessment where students responded to their academic achievement on their grades, either good or bad. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize the sample. To verify the relationship of dependence of the variables was used Chi-square test and to compare proportions of variables was used Binomial test, considering p = 0.05 to determine the differences. In the analysis of the data was used the statistical package SPSS version 20.0. Results:There is no relation of dependence between the two variables and the proportions of the academic income were not significant. Conclusion:After analyzing the data, we can conclude that the level of physical activity does not influence academic performance. Therefore, future research should be developed seeking a more accurate and real evaluation, and the level of physical activity can be evaluated by a test of maximum oxygen consumption (VO2máx.) and the academic performance evaluation be performed with a direct consultation in the secretariat of the Course and not a self-assessment performed by the student. |
| ENFISEMA SUBCUTANEO MACIÇO ASSOCIADO A LESÃO DE VIA AEREA, APÓS TRAUMA TORÁCICO: RELATO DE CASO | Author : Bruno Geraldo Sousa Silva, Carla do Carmo Pires, Gabriel S. Thiago Cavalleiro, Carlos Augusto Marques Batista, Felipe Maia Rodrigues | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Objective-The objectiveof the present study is to present a clinical case of massive subcutaneous emphysema after thoracic trauma, with possible inferior airway lesion, undiagnosed due to the impossibility of performing bronchoscopy. Materials and methods-A retrospective case report of important subcutaneous emphysema after chest trauma, associated with airway injury was performed. The research was carried out at the Luiz Giuseffi Jannuzzi School Hospital. Results-The diagnosis of anaphylaxis was considered by the ectoscopic presentation of the patient, due to the presence of periorbital swelling and lips, characterizing angioedema and being performed an anaphylaxis approach. The most suggestive symptom was bronchial tree involvement and respiratory system due to sudden displacement of the lungs bythe direct trauma of the accident, evolving with subcutaneous emphysema.A closed chest drain was used in an attempt to reduce subcutaneous emphysema, and this therapy presented good results in the reduction of the condition. Althoughthe patient evolved with a pneumothorax, identified by the chest CT that was requested to confirm the diagnosis of subcutaneous emphysema, the probable cause for such complication being the use of bilateral drains shown in the tomography report and confirmed by esophagography, performed during The ICU. It is understood that the pneumomediastinum was characterized as an important finding in the tomography, corroborating with the hypothesis of the presence of lesion in the inferior area as a cause of the subcutaneous emphysema. Conclusion-We conclude that the numbers of cases of subcutaneous emphysemadescribed in the literature when directly associated with thoracic trauma are precarious. |
