PROBLEMS AND CHALLENGES OF SCHEDULED CASTE PRE-UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN KARNATAKA: A CASE STUDY OF KOPPAL DISTRICT |
Author : Panduranga Eerappa Dodmani and Vijayalaxmi Biradar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Education exercises a determining influence on the socioeconomic development and culture rejuvenation of the country. In term of socioeconomic and educational development, there is a large component of population, which is socially, educationally, and economically backward like scheduled caste/scheduled tribes and a large segment of the minority groups. Even though the constitutional provision is there in India, tribal children are denied their linguistic human right. This results in high dropouts and low achievement. But it is a matter of great regret that modern civilized man, who claims to be sufficiently educated, does not care to look into the socio-economic and educational problems of the scheduled caste population in the backward regions of our country. The problems are delimited to education, economic and social. So, the present study attempts to know different problems of Scheduled caste students studying in PU Colleges. The study finds that there is a significant difference in problems of scheduled caste students studying in rural area and rather than urban colleges. The students both boys and girls of rural schools face more problem than boys and girls of urban colleges. Again it is also found that, there is significant effect of sex in the problem of scheduled caste students in rural schools. Rural girl students face more problem than the rural boys studying in PU Colleges. |

GANDHIAN ETHICAL PRINCIPES: THE MEANS AND THE ENDS |
Author : Malvika Singh |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : According to Gandhi, the ultimate objective of man's life is to seek self-realization. In Gandhian philosophy means and ends are convertible terms. The two are inseparable and should be equally pure. That the end is high and appreciable is just not sufficient for Gandhi. The means too must be ethical and moral. Infact, to an extent the means are to him constitutes everything. This emphasis on means is partly due to the fact that a human being can only strive, and is unable to control the end result. But end results grow out of the means occupied. To quote Gandhi, “as the means so is the end”. Gandhi was also inspired by the Gita doctrine of 'niskama karma', that is, action without attachment. This doctrine teaches that a good deed produce only a good result. Thus, Gandhi believes that, if an individual takes care of the means, the end will be automatically be taken care of itself. And that realization of the goal is in directly proportional to that means. To Gandhi, 'an attempt made to achieve swaraj is swaraj itself'. |

COAL FLY ASH BASED MCM-41 AS A SOLID CATALYST IN KNOEVENAGEL CONDENSATION REACTION |
Author : M. R. Deshpande and U.D.Joshi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : In the recent years, there has been a growing interest to find creative ways not only to reduce natural waste and industrial hazard to overcome environmental pollution but also its effective utilization. We report eco-friendly synthesis of mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41as a member of M41S family using Coal Fly Ash (CFA) plentily available as an industrial-waste. This contributes to the green synthesis of MCM-41 at a cheaper production cost. Synthesized material (denoted as CFA-MCM-41) was characterized by powder XRD, FT-IR, N2-physisorption, TGA-DTA and SEM to understand the effect of silica source on physico-chemical properties. CFA-MCM-41 having basic characteristics was efficiently used to catalyze Knoevenagel condensation reaction between aldehyde and malonitrile. |

EVALUATING TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMME |
Author : Ashokkumar. B. Surapur |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Teachers have been identified as pivotal in determining the level of achievement realized by the students in the classroom. Professional development for teachers has been recognized as a means to provide teachers with the requisites to make changes to their practice and the potential to improve student achievement (Ball & Cohen, 1999; Cohen & Hill, 2000).Just as there is no simple system for evaluating the quality of faculty research, there is no simple system for evaluating the quality of faculty teaching. However, by thinking carefully about the purposes of evaluation, and by crafting multiple methods of evaluation that suit those purposes, one can devise evaluation systems that are reliable, valid, and fair. Equally important, the process of discussing and crafting evaluation systems focuses attention on the practice of good teaching and helps to create a culture in which teaching is highly valued. |
