POSSIBLE CORROSION PROBLEMS IN LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEMS |
Author : Zoltan KASZA1,* |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Various materials are available to build lightning protection systems. Selection of materials and cross-sections requires knowledge of the relevant standards and the various corrosion processes. The product standard for materials is contained in standard MSZ1 EN 62561:2012 in Hungary [1]. Most lightning protection systems are installed outdoors. The materials used are exposed to the risk of corrosion outdoors due to environmental influences. This requires the use of corrosion-resistant materials and solutions. |

Author : Zuzanna IWINSKA1 , Pawel PIETRUSIEWICZ1,* |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The article describes the preparation and filtration of a solution containing carbon quantum dots. In this paper carbon quantum dots were obtained from food products, cheap and environmentally friendly hydrothermal carbonization method, without using toxic chemicals reagents. Moreover, to study the optical properties of the carbon quantum dots UV-VIS absorbtion were carried out. The maximum absorbance was determined in the range of ? ~377 to ~408nm. Furthermore, carbon quantum dots were found to emit green light. |

ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF PUMPKIN SEED OIL AND ITS EFFECT ON OXIDATIVE STABILITY OF SUNFLOWER OIL MONITORED BY FTIR SPECTROSCOPY TECHNIQUE |
Author : Fatos REXHEPI |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The aim of this research was to evaluate the antioxidant activity of pumpkin seed oil obtained by cold pressed after roasting under specific conditions, as well as the study of its effect on the oxidative stability of sunflower oil. The first step was obtaining the pumpkin seed oil, then determining the total polyphenols, the antioxidant activity, density and the burning point. Investigation of its effect was checked by using pure sunflower oil, mixture of sunflower oil with 1% pumpkin seed oil and pure corn oil. All three prepared samples were exposed thermally at three serial cycles at the burning point for 8 hours, followed by cooling at room temperature for 16 hours. After each cycle their density and burning point were monitored, finally followed by FTIR Spectroscopy using intensity ratio as an excellent indicator of monitoring oxidative stability for edible oils. Oxidative stability results showed that the mixture of sunflower oil and pumpkin seed oil have higher stability than the two others: pure corn and sunflower oil. Higher thermal resistance of sunflower and pumpkin seed oil mixture is a result from pumpkin seed oil which has high antioxidant activity and this could be used as a natural antioxidant by the food industry. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :TiO2 is a primary photocatalytic ingredient. If incorporated into building materials, it can keep surfaces clean and significantly reduce smog-forming air pollutants. Many researchers have focused on the ability of Nano TiO2 to reduce NOx emissions or other pollutants. However, developing countries are unable to widely utilize Nano materials due to cost and technology barriers, in spite of their great need to find means for protecting structures from pollution and improve air quality. Some studies proved that micro TiO2 (commercial grade) also has photocatalytic properties. However, the effect of this inclusion on key mechanical and durability properties needs to be verified before being recommended for wide use. In this research the effect of commercial grade TiO2 powder on fresh state flow, compressive strength, shrinkage, sulfate resistance and carbonation. The results indicated that TiO2 decreased the workability as mortars became more sticky and dry with increased TiO2 content. The compressive strength was also reduced in TiO2 containing samples compared to the control samples especially at early ages. However, TiO2 powder as an additive in mortar was useful in reducing carbonation due to the filler effect. No samples in the current investigation showed signs of cracking or expansive mass loss due to sulfate exposure. It is recommended that TiO2 powder should be used as an additive to the mortar plaster to help in controlling the air pollution problem. However, some mix adjustment may be needed to counteract the loss in flow and strength due to the inclusion of TiO2 powder. |

THE MEASUREMENT OF THE DIELECTRIC CONSTANT OF UNDERGROUND CLAY PIPES |
Author : David McGRAW Jr.1 |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Many of the Underground utilities in the United States are in need of rehabilitation. It is then necessary to find ways to improve and measure intrastructural characteristics. An advanced ultra-wideband (UWB) based radar was developed at Louisiana Tech University to assess the intrastructure of underground pipes. A significant contribution in the process of designing such an ultra-wideband (UWB) based radar system came from a two- and three-dimensional numerical modeling of the propagation of electromagnetic pulses inside and outside buried non-metallic pipes using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) technique. The electrical properties of the materials involved in exhibit show a significant variation as a result of the moisture content, mineral content, bulk density, temperature and frequency of the electromagnetic signal propagating through it. In this paper, the dielectric constant of clay pipe are measured over a microwave frequency range from 1 Ghz to 18 Ghz including the effects of moisture and chloride content. The change in the dielectric constant of clay pipe becomes significant as the moisture level increases. A high performance software package called MUEPSLNTM was used for the calculations. |

Author : Siseerot KETKAEW1 |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :This paper presents high density cold corona generator for increase oxygen in water storage system by applied high intensity electric field corona energy. Using converter principle and controlling of the switching by IC#555. The flyback converter is designed to operate at 15 kHz frequency through a AC high voltage switching transformer at output voltage of 1 kV to 3 kV, and at the input voltage of 36 VAC. By adapting the stainless net between aluminium plates in electric field cell set, One - hour operating yields the ozone gas (O3) generating capacity of 1.5 ppm to 5.7 ppm and the oxygen dissolved in water decreases, respectively, is 3.2 mg/L to 1.8 mg/L to 5.7 ppm ozone gas causes the oxygen dissolved in water decreases the most. Which in future could be used in the production of drinking water as well. |
