Author : M. Shashidhar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Ambedkar's 'Thoughts on Pakistan' was taken up immediately after the passing of the Lahore Resolution on Pakistan. Perhaps Ambedkar's work is the earliest in the line of writings on Partition. It was actually a treatise submitted as a report to the Independent Labour Party which was subsequently published in the form of a book. The idea of Pakistan is bound to have diverse opinions in the Indian milieu. The question is undoubtedly controversial. This is definitely an arena of controversy based purely on sentiments. In this given situation anyone intending to comprehend it finds more stupefaction and less understanding of the subject. It is here that the writing of Ambedkar brings in a ray of hope in our understanding of the problem of Partition of India. The article tries to reflect the ideas as expressed by Ambedkar on the theme, in his work 'Thoughts on Pakistan' which eventually enables us to understand the issue without any prejudice over the subject of study. |

IMPACT OF GLOBALIZATION ON TRADE UNIONS |
Author : J. Wilfred Angello Gerald |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Globalization is the new buzzword that has come to dominate the world since the nineties of the last century. In the millennia that have followed, distance has been largely overcome and human-made barriers lowered or removed to facilitate the exchange of goods and ideas. Propelled by the desire to improve one's life and helped along by technology, both the interconnectedness and interdependence have grown. This increasing integration of the 'globalization' has enriched life but also created new problems. Today, globalization is in every facet of our lives but the major measures initiated through globalization strategy include scrapping of the industrial licensing regime, reduction in the number of areas reserved for the public sector, start of the privatization programme, reduction in labour welfare , hike in working time with nominal wage/salary payment, reduction of harmonious industrial relations, outsourcing major / vital functions and trade unions in India have great difficulty in establishing workers' rights. For instance, the year 2012 witnessed Clashes at Maruti's manesar plant, where Avnish Kumar Dev, General Manager (HR) was killed and 85 others injured in a scuffle at Manesar plant. Author : N. Parasuraman |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Youth form a large proportion of the global population. They are valuable human resource and are important asset for development for countries in which they constitute the majority of the population. According to United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), there are 1.2 billion adolescents in the world, of which, nine out of ten live in developing countries and 55% reside in rural areas (UNFPA, 2006). Young farmers are the future of agriculture and rural development in all the countries. When compared to aged farmers they have sense of innovation, creativity and dynamism. Young farmers are the future entrepreneurs and can potentially overcome the food security challenge. However, youth are facing unacceptable levels of unemployment in developing countries. In 2009 in North Africa and the Middle East, youth unemployment reached 24.7% and 22.3% respectively. In addition, an estimated 400 million youth worldwide suffer from a deficit of decent work opportunities. The vast majority of jobs available to youth in rural areas are low paid, insecure, and with few benefits or prospects for advancement, particularly. About 25 percent of all employed youth are earning less than the equivalent of US$ 2 per day (ILO, 2010). |

SERVICE SUSTAINABILITY IN HOTEL OPERATIONS – AN INTROSPECTIVE APPROACH |
Author : V. Jaykumar , Leena N. Fukey |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : In most industries, some firms are more profitable than others, regardless of whether the average profitability of the industry is high or low. The superior performers conceivably possess something special and hard to imitate that allows them to outperform their rivals. These unique skills and assets (resources) are referred to as sources of competitive advantage strategy literature.(bharadwaj,Sundar.G)Sustainable strategies and practices can be just as useful in service operations as in manufacturing operations; and second, that such strategies and practices can support a hotel turnaround effort. This can possibly be achieved by introducing two business principles, decentralized management and sustainable development. Sustainable buildings and hotels have an important role in reducing the negative impact on the environment since they use energy, water, waste, materials and land much more efficiently than buildings simply built to code(Persic-Zivadinov, Irena,). A hotels sustainable value system, embodied in the concept of progression, which links customers and employees, can support environmental responsibility. Through employee-training programs, environmental-information systems, and innovative collaborations with suppliers, hotels can look into a revival policy within a few years as a profitable corporation well on the road to sustainability. As people are becoming more aware of the damage caused on the environment by regular business activities, it has become increasingly obvious that the hotel industry does more than its share in harming and wasting environmental resources. As a result, more and more guests are looking for hotels following practices to protect environment. Becoming a green hotel l can be the foundation for a great marketing strategy, and the first step in marketing is providing consumers with what they want or need.(kamal manaktola,Vinnie Jauhari) |

A CONCISE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MANAGEMENT IN BHAGAVATGEETA |
Author : Harishchandra S B |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Management has become a part and parcel in everyday life, be it at home, office, factory, Government, or in any other organization where a group of human beings assemble for a common purpose, management principles come into play through their various facets like management of time, resources, personnel, materials, machinery, finance, planning, priorities, policies and practice. Small and medium enterprises in India have never had any doubts about bringing religion into the workplace - most people here start the day with prayers, if not an elaborate puja. Large corporates, on the other hand, have tended to look askance at religion, discouraging, if not outright forbidding overtly religious behavior in the office. But that seems to be changing, with many Indian CEOs now prepared to make room for religious discourse in the office --provided it is in the form of management philosophy. ‘Management of time is a systematic way of doing all activities in any field of human effort. The western management thought of prosperity to some for some time has absolutely failed in its aim to ensure betterment of individual life and social welfare. The despondent position of Arjuna in the first chapter of the Gîta is typical for this human situation which may come in the life of all men of action some time or other. Lord Krishna in the Gîta advises how to manage for a better time. |

Author : Ritesh Bansal |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :This paper recommends a number of actions that hotel managers can take to avoid service failure and improve service recovery. Such actions could help out a hotel in finding where it is lacking and where to improve its performance in these areas. These actions could give direction to managers who are dealing with the day- to-day operations of a hotel. CHILD LABOUR IN INDIA: AN OVERVIEW |
Author : Ranba Narahari Alte and Pravin Nandkishorji Totala |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Children are the greatest gift to humanity and Childhood is an important and impressionable stage of human development as it holds the potential to the future development of any society. The problem of child labour continues to pose a challenge before the nation. The main cause of child labour is poverty, unemployment, illiteracy of the parents and excess population. Among these, poverty is the primary reason for the existence of child labour and other factors are inter-related to each other. Government has been taking various pro-active measures to tackle this problem. However, considering the magnitude and extent of the problem and that it is essentially a socio-economic problem inextricably linked to poverty and illiteracy, it requires concerted efforts from all sections of the society to make a dent in the problem. According to the Census 2001 figures there are 1.26 crore working children in the age group of 5-14 as compared to the total child population of 25.2 crore. There are approximately 12 lakhs children working in the hazardous occupations/processes which are covered under the Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act i.e. 18 occupations and 65 processes. However, as per survey conducted by National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) in 2004-05, the number of working children is estimated at 90.75 lakh. It shows that the efforts of the Government have borne the desired fruits. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Reacting active species induced oxidative damage of cellular tissue cause to many human diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disease, nephropathy and aging. Naturally occurring antioxidant supplements from plants are vital to counter the oxidative damage in cells. The main objective of the present study was to investigate the in-vitro antioxidant potential methanolic extract of Ficus tsiela and Ficus tomentosa barks were compared with ascorbic acid, quercitin, flavone and rutin (standard used) was observed. At a concentration of 0.1 mg/ml the scavenging activity of the Ficus tsiela reached 62.34%, Ficus tomentosa have 41.83% activity, while at the same concentration rutin have 44.39% activity, and flavones have 34.41% activity. Absorbance of control was 0.603.The methanolic extract of Ficus tsiela having the higher radical scavenging capacity compared with the extract of Ficus tomentosa. |

CRYPTOGRAPHY IN SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE |
Author : Farhan Akthar , Awad Bin Abdalla , Syed Amer Ali , Kranthi Kiran and Anvesh Reddy. |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Cryptography's aim is to construct schemes or protocols that can still accomplish certain tasks even in the presence of an adversary. A basic task in cryptography is to enable users to communicate securely over an insecure channel in a way that guarantees their transmissions' privacy and authenticity. Providing privacy and authenticity remains a central goal for cryptographic protocols, but the field has expanded to encompass many others, including e-voting, digital coins, and secure auctions. This paper explains what cryptography is about and how we can scientifically justify a cryptographic scheme's security. As the length of software keys increases to accommodate evolving needs for greater security, so the marketplace demands a wider variety of cryptographic implementations. With recent improvements in core design and frequency performance, designers are now asking whether customized IP blocks are still needed for these secure algorithms. In short, can a designer use a generic core in the hardware to save space and cost, and embed the cryptographic algorithms in software. |

AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES AND HEALTH PROBLEMS IN RURAL AREAS |
Author : Chandrashekhar B. |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : In India, half of the world's labour force is in agriculture and an estimated 1.3 billion workers are engaged in agricultural production world wide. The share of the agricultural labour force in the very economically active population is under 10 per cent in the developed countries and accounts for 59 per cent of workers in the less developed regions (International Labour Conference (ILC) 2000). Compared to workers in other sectors, agricultural workers are under protected. They suffer from sever health problems. In most of the countries, including India, agricultural workers are excluded from any employment injury benefit or insurance scheme. Farmers in India are rarely covered by any schemes. Only if they contribute individually to insurance schemes, they get social security benefits. In agriculture, the most vulnerable groups are daily wage labourers, women workers, and child labourers most of them are very poor. They are the one who are exposed to occupational hazards. In India agricultural work is carried out mostly in rural environment where there is no clean-cut distinction between working and living conditions. Most agricultural work is carried out in the open air and farmers depend on weather to perform their agricultural activities. Uneven weather further aggravates health conditions of the people and influence their working conditions. |
