Author : Balappa Mallappa Kattelegere |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : The research article enlighten on sati system and status of woman in ancient Karnataka particularly, in Gulbarga and Yadagir. Archaeological department have been found many Maasti stones in and around Karnataka. When we search in north Karnataka number of Maasti stones in Raichur, Bellary, Gulbarga and Yadgir. Sati wasprevalent among certain classes of women, who either took the vow or deemed it a great honor to die on the funeral pyres of their husbands. Ibn Battuta observed that Sati was considered praiseworthy by the Hindus, without however being obligatory. The Agni Purana declares that the woman who commits sahagamana goes to heaven and Medhatiti pronounced that Sati was like suicide and was against the Shastras. In an age of such divergent views, women of the Deccan followed a middle path. They were not coerced, although several wives committed Sati. The majority of the widows did not undergo Sati. Mahasati stones were erected in memory of brave women who committed Sati and are periodically worshipped. The number of such stones is a few, indicating a small number of such women. The status of woman in ancient Karnataka was very poor. There are no instances of remarriage of widows |

Author : Amit Kant Singh,Narsingh Verma,Ramji Singh and Preeti Tyagi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Background: Cigarette smoking causes small airway obstruction (SAO) and is the harbinger of developing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) the prevalence of SAO varies with amount of smoking. Respiratory symptoms are reported to be not reliable for determining early airway obstruction Objective: To find out the relationship of respiratory symptoms and amount of smoking with small airway obstruction (SAO) detected by using spirometer among the smokers. Materials and Methods: 100 male adult current smokers performed the spirometry test. Results of Forced Expiratory Flow rate at 25-75% (FEF25 –75 %), Forced expiratory volume in 1st second (FEV1) and percentage ratio of FEV1 to forced vital capacity (FVC) i.e., (FEV1/FVC)% were used for determining SAO. A modified validated questionnaire was used for labeling respiratory symptoms of obstructive nature. Statistical analysis was done to test independence of symptom with SAO, and also of amount of smoking (in pack year) with presence of SAO. Result: 37% of the total study group (n=100) were detected as having SAO and 49% of the total as having one or more respiratory symptoms. 29.2 % of the smokers who smoked less than 3 pack years (n= 65) were detected having SAO whereas 51.4 % were observed among those smoking more than 10 pack years ( n= 35). SAO varies directly with pack year significantly (p<0.05) Association of respiratory symptoms with SAO were not significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study revealed that SAO is common among smokers and can be detected by spirometry a simple tool for screening at early stage. |

SELF-EMPLOYED WOMEN IN GULBARGA SLUM AREA: ISSUES AND CHALLENGES |
Author : Shakuntala Ranganagouda and Vijaylaxmi Birdar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : In the history of human development, woman has been as important as man. In fact, the status, employment and work performed by women in society is the indicator of a nation's overall progress. Without the participation of women in national activities, the social, economical or political progress of a country will be stagnated. The hands that rock the cradle, may though, as the myth goes have not yet ruled the world. The fact is that most of the women's domestic role is combined with economic activities and utilization of their skill and labour to earn the extra income for the family, which makes the difference between a reasonably decent survival and humiliating poverty. Women constitute half of the humanity, even contributing two-thirds of world's work hours. She earns only one-third of the total income and owns less than one-tenth of the world's resources. This shows that the economic status of women is in pathetic condition and this is more so in a country like India. One of the major challenge of the self-employed women in Gulbarga Slum area is that lack of financial support of the Governmental and Non-Governmental Organization and issue is that family support, finance, and occupation of mobility. This paper specially focuses problem facing Self-Employed women failed to support by Government and Non-governmental Schemes for development of self-employed women in Gulbarga slum area which is comes in North Karnataka |

DIVEDEND POLICY: A REVIEW OF THEORIES |
Author : Renu Gulia |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : The literature on dividend policy has produced a large body of theoretical and empirical research, especially following the publication of the dividend irrelevance hypothesis of Miller and Modigliani (1961). No general consensus has yet emerged after several decades of investigation, and scholars can often disagree even about the same empirical evidence. This paper aims at providing the reader with a comprehensive understanding of dividends and dividend policy by reviewing the main theories and explanations of dividend policy including dividend irrelevance hypothesis of Miller and Modigliani, bird-in-the-hand, tax-preference, clientele effects, signalling, and agency costs hypotheses. However, due to the enduring nature and extensive range of the debate about dividend policy which has spawned a vast amount of literature that grows by the day, a full review of all debates is not feasible. The paper reaches at a conclusion that the famous statement of Fisher Black about dividend policy "the harder we look at the dividends picture, the more it seems like a puzzle, with pieces that just do not fit together" (Black, 1976, p. 5) is still valid. |

ECOLOGICAL AND ANTI-CAPITALISTIC CONSCIOUSNESS IN GEORGE ORWELL'S COMING UP FOR AIR |
Author : Arun Murlidhar Jadhav |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Ecological consciousness is major concern of ecocriticism that investigates the relation between literature and environment. It believes that the natural world is a living, sacred thing in which each individual feels closely attached to a particular place. George Orwell was brought up in the socio-cultural environment of England. He liked and loved the traditional English culture. However, when he observed the drastic change in both agrarian and urban England he felt restless and decided to write on the effects of industrialization and capitalism on traditional ways of life. Coming Up for Air is the outcome of these feelings. It is mainly about Orwell's ecological and anti-capitalistic consciousness. Like ecocriticism, anticapitalism also directs our attention upon the evils of the rapid urbanization and industrial activity. In fact, the destruction of nature and culture is the serious social problem of the modern industrialised society and Orwell has demonstrated this through the difference between the traditional natural England and modern capitalistic industrialised society. So the presentation of the estrangement of man from nature and culture is the main subject of the novel and the root cause of this estrangement is capitalism and industrialization. The main object of the article is to show the loss of the natural environment and agrarian culture and the evils of the rapid urbanization and industrial activity as depicted by George Orwell in Coming Up for Air. |

Author : Harishchandra S. B. |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Poojya Dr. Appaji, believe education is a “Bramhastra” (strong weapon as per Hindu epics) as solve all kinds of problems and obstacles in individual and social problems. Education is an only solution for the all problems of the nation. “The teacher is a Brahma, the creator of the universe, he is God Vishnu protector, and he is God Maheshwar destroyer. He is entire universe, salutations to him”. – Poojya Dr. Appaji Believes from the soul. One of the biggest problems that are faced by India is poverty. India the home of 400 million poor people living even below the poverty life and poverty causes many other problems as well. Due to poverty the other problem which rose includes child labor, crime propagation and population explosion as well. To achieve all the goals and to become a modern state the solution is to reduce the poverty rate by increase the jobs ratio and another thing which is important to give equal opportunities to every citizen and to pay attention to increase the literacy rate as well. The other problems are gender biasness, inflation, illiteracy, employment and .child labor and women harassments. I feel the major problems India facing is Corruption which results into poverty and transparency in jobs 2nd major problem is education. There is no doubt about it that education system of our country is the toughest in the world but still we had archived the 65% of population educated. If the education system of country could have been achieve even 90% literacy rate, if we would have tried honestly, and our nation also considered in worlds developed country |

Abstract : Transportation engineering is the application of technology and scientific principles to the planning, functional design, operation and management of facilities for any mode of transportation in order to provide for the safe, efficient, rapid, comfortable, convenient, economical, and environmentally compatible movement of people and goods (transport). It is a sub-discipline of civil engineering and of industrial. The planning aspects of transport engineering relate to urban planning, and involve technical forecasting decisions and political factors. Technical forecasting of passenger travel usually involves an urban transportation planning model, requiring the estimation of trip generation (how many trips for what purpose), trip distribution (destination choice, where is the traveler going), mode choice (what mode is being taken), and route assignment (which streets or routes are being used). More sophisticated forecasting can include other aspects of traveler decisions, including auto ownership, trip chaining (the decision to link individual trips together in a tour) and the choice of residential or business location (known as land use forecasting). Passenger trips are the focus of transport engineering because they often represent the peak of demand on any transportation system. |

IMPACT OF CELEBRITY ENDORSMENT ON CONSUMER BUYING BEHAVIOUR AND ON BRAND IMAGE |
Author : Sumita Jain |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Everyday consumers are exposed to thousands of voices and images in magazines, newspapers, billboards, websites, radio and television, etc. Every brand attempts to steal at least fraction of a person's time to inform him/her of the amazing and different attributes of the product at hand. The challenge of the marketer is to find a hook that will hold the subject's attention. In helping to achieve this, use of celebrity for endorsement of a brand is widely used marketing strategy. In this modern age, people tend to ignore all commercials and advertisements while flipping through the magazines and newspapers or viewing TV. But even then, the glamour of a celebrity seldom goes unnoticed. Thus, celebrity endorsement in advertisement and its impact on the overall brand is of great significance. In this process, the companies hire celebrities from a particular field to feature in its advertisement campaigns. The promotional features and images of the product are matched with the celebrity image, which tends to persuade a consumer to fix-up his choice from a variety of brands. Although this sounds pretty simple, but the design of such campaigns and the subsequent success in achieving the desired result calls for an in-depth understanding of the product, the brand objective, choice of a celebrity, associating the celebrity with the brand, and a framework for measuring the effectiveness. |

A ROLE OF WOMEN IN CHANGING SOCIETY |
Author : Bharati Revadkar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : In most of the underdeveloped countries the girl child is discriminated against and Indian is no exception. The causes are economical, social and religious. To find a solution to the prevailing deplorable condition of girl children, the UNICEF has declared 1990 as “The year of The Girl Child.” The intention is to focus the attention of Governments and social institutions on the plight of the girls and to work towards the end of discrimination among children on the basis of sex. However, most of the efforts of the Government of India and social instituions doing surveys etc. Not much has been done to change the situation at the ground level for the girl child. A real change in thecondition of the girl child can be brought about only when the economic situation and social outlook of the family are radically changed and enough money to send all children to school, there will not be any question of discrimination against the girl child. And the spread of education will dispel superstition & religious orthodoxy that bind women in general & restrict the development of girl child. |

Author : R. Dhanalakshmi and A.Vidhya |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Representing structure, key properties, software systems and behavior needs a high level abstraction for the software architectures. There are so many languages present for describing the architectures that are under research, needs to get a maturity. But there are only fewer amounts of techniques present for converting architecture to a running system. It is not an easy way to convert the architecture's core element into a system implementation perfectly. A solution that can be done is we can create an architectural framework, which supports implementing, executing, evolving and deploying. This paper supports in creating a framework, where we have some hands on experience with the family of frameworks, which supports in implementation. These frameworks that we have used are with different hard ware platforms, which include the resources and the devices. Frameworks have the property of lightweight and also have the property of extensibility, which helps in monitoring and analyzing the system at runtime. The framework which we have used will resolve all the issues that are faced in software architect for its implementation. |

MALE REPRODUCTIVE BIOLOGY OF A BRACHYURAN CRAB, SARMATIUM PUNCTATUM (A. MILNE EDWARDS, 1875) |
Author : I. Sakunthala and A. Shyla Suganthi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : This paper envisages the morphology and function of the male reproductive system in a brachyuran crab, Sarmatium punctatum using histological and histochemical studies. The male reproductive system of S. punctatum comprises paired symmetrical structures of testis, coiled vas deferens, sac-like tubular accessory glands and narrow ejaculatory duct which open out as intromittent organ. Seminiferous tubules of the testis display two zones: germinal zone (GZ) and transformation zone (TZ). Spermatogenesis and spermatozoan maturation occurrs within the testes and subsequently reaches the vas deferens via collecting duct. Structurally and functionally the vas deferens is categorized into anterior vas deferens (AVD), middle vas deferens (MVD), and posterior vas deferens (PVD). AVD secretes glycoproteinaceous and mucoproteinaceous products which assist in sperm grouping and spermatiophore formation. MVD and PVD secrete mucoproteinaceous secretion akin to AVD and act as storage centers. The exact role of accessory glands is enigmatic. The copious amount of acidic materials secreted by these ductal glands possibly supports easy transport of spermatophores during copulation. |

Author : Rukhsana and Jumafuddin Sheikh |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Agricultural mechanization is the application of machinery, technology and increased power to agriculture, largely as a means to enhance the productivity of human labour and often to achieve results well beyond the capacity of human labour. There are three sources of farm power utilized for these tools, machines and equipment, manual and animal draft, and motorized power. Mechanization also includes irrigation system, food processing and related technologies and equipment. The main problems of Indian agricultural system are lack of mechanisation, small land holding, small and marginal farmers which results in huge wastage of human labour and in low yields per capita labour force. So, Implementation and action needed to increase the availability of mechanization inputs and identification of the components of a programme to increase investments in mechanization and make plan for sustainable agricultural development. However, the full benefit achieved through the use of many advanced crop husbandry inputs such as improved seed, fertilizer, and pesticides, as well as increased use of irrigation, use of improved tools and machines. Only under certain conditions, where production increases achieved through the use of other improved inputs has come to its limits, can improved tools and equipment by themselves lead to production increases, cost reductions or improvements in the environmental sustainability of farming. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Initially my studied in depth about what is stress and stress management, we visited different colleges and approached different teachers to find out what are the various questions that can be put in our questionnaire. Now our next job was to pen down the questions we could ask teachers which should not be too harsh and direct that makes teachers uncomfortable to cooperate. After making questionnaire the next hurdle that came was what if teachers didn't knew whether they were stressed or what if they refused even though they were stressed. So we prepared different sets of questionnaire depending upon the answer of the initial question which our team asked verbally: ARE YOU STRESSED? After I was prepared with questionnaire we personally went to different colleges to get them filled. After we reached our target of getting filled around 350 questionnaires we soughed out the best 300 upon which we did our further analysis which you will get to know further as our team carries on the presentation. |
