Abstract :The United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights defines poverty as a human condition characterized by sustained or chronic deprivation of the resources, capabilities, choices, security and power necessary for the enjoyment of an adequate standard of living and other civil, cultural, economic, political and social rights. Poverty has been and remains a constructed social and economic reality. The poor are not poor simply because they are less human or because they are physiologically or mentally inferior to others whose conditions are better off. On the contrary, their poverty is often a direct or indirect consequence of society’s failure to establish equity and fairness as the basis of its social and economic relations. The socio-economic development of a nation has an integral relation with the status of women in its society. The justification of the claim will be found if we go through the past history of development around the world. It would be found that those countries had taken sincere and effective initiative to empowering women attained an inclusive growth and the progresses of those countries in all verticals of civilization are much stable. Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :South Asian region is viewed among the worst affected regions in terms of violence against women and gender marginalisation. Women are vulnerable to direct violence particularly sexual exploitation during war and post conflict situations. In this context, Security sector reform (SSR) is indispensable to post-conflict situations in order to avoid the reoccurrence of conflict, to create the moderate conditions for reconstruction and development as well as to enhance public security. For its effectiveness, the United Nations Security Council under ‘Resolution 1325’ calls for wider female participation in all aspects of post conflict reconstruction (UN 2000). The comprehensive integration of gender equality dimensions into SSR processes is critical for ensuring accountability and effective delivery of justice and security services. |

GLOBALIZATION EFFECT ON EDUCATION AND CULTURE: AN ANALYSIS |
Author : Bhavna Desai |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Internationalization of higher education can be linked to different internal and external changes in international system. Externally, there have been changes in labour market which have resulted in calls for more knowledge and skilled workers and workers with deeper understandings of languages, cultures and business methods all over the world. Education is becoming more invaluable to individuals. In present environment, education provides individuals with a better chance of employment which in turn leads to a better lifestyle, power and status. The modification of knowledge as intellectual property has occurred- particularly with regard to connecting intellectual work of universities with community, business and government interests and priorities. While such a tendency is often welcomed by socalled applied disciplines, it causes tensions between more profitable applied subjects of Science and Technology, and those of basic theoretical enquiry, particularly in arts and humanities. It also creates institutional winners and losers. |

THE ROLE OF INTENSIVE AGRICULTURAL IN ACHIEVING FOOD SECURITY IN EGYPT |
Author : Afaf Z. Othman , Monia Bahaa El-Din Hassan |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Egypt is still short in self-sufficiency in major food groups. Selfsufficiency in grain crops and oil crops has been estimated at 68.7% and 45%, respectively. The study concluded that production of major crops such as wheat and broad beans can be increased by expanding the areas in which the two crops are cultivated under intercropping pattern. In addition, production of vegetable crops can be increased by cultivating them under intercropping, which helps save thus allocate the areas in which they used to be cultivated as single crops for cultivating major crops in which Egypt faces production shortages. It is worth mentioning that production of wheat, broad beans, garlic, winter onions, and summer onions cultivated under intercropping amounted to 157.44, 9, 62, and 467.2 thousand tons, respectively. The amount of increase in both winter and summer vegetable crops reached 61.708 thousand tons. |

Author : Mohamed Gamal Mady Abou El-Azayem, Nagwa Mosaad El-Agroudy and Monia Bahaa El-Din Hassan |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Grain crops occupy top priority in the Arab Food Security Strategy, especially with the continuously increasing population. Although increasing production of grain crops is a priority goal in Egypt and Tunisia's Agricultural Development Strategies, the achieved increase in production does not match the increasing consumption needs, which increased by 22.25% and 31.04% during the sub-period 2008-2012 compared with the sub-period (1998-2002) in Egypt and Tunisia, respectively. In Egypt, production quantity of wheat, maize, and barley increased by 30.41%, 0.81%, and 19.75, respectively. However, rice production declined by 0.78% during the third sub-period compared with the first sub-period as a result of reductions in the rice area, which is one of the goals of Egypt's Agricultural Development Strategy due to consuming large quantity of irrigation water. |

EFFECT OF HEAT TREATMENT ON PHENOLIC CONTENTAND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OFAPPLE FRUITS |
Author : OmarA.M. Al-Bar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : The Effect of microwave and heat treatments on phenolic content and antioxidant activity of the apple (Malusdomesticavar. Balady)fruit was evaluated. The total phenolic content was enhanced with increasing the time (20 sec) of microwave from 14 to 16mg phenols/g apple peeland from 6.5 to 10.4 mg phenols/g apple flesh, but at 30 sec the total phenolic content was decreased to 6.8 mg.The DPPH assay IC value was increased with increasing the time of microwave from 50 3.68 to 7.9µg phenolic concentration at 30 s of microwave treatment of apple peel. In the apple flesh, the DPPH assay IC value was decreased with increasing the time 50 of microwave from 8.6 to 4.9µg phenolicconcentration at 20 sec of microwave treatment. There is no remarkable effect of heat treatment (80ºC) on the phenolic content of apple peel and flesh. The DPPH assay IC value was decreased with heat 50 treatment from 3.68 to < 2µg phenolic concentration of peel. In flesh, the DPPH assay IC value was increased with heat treatment from 8.6 to > 10µg phenolic 50 concentration. The results indicated that microwave and heat treatments could be efficient processes to liberate and activate the bound phenolic compounds and to enhance the antioxidant activity of apple. |

OPRESSION AND EXPLOITION OF WOMAN |
Author : Surajmukhi Yadav |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The violence on the personality, body and mind of women is not for sociologists to worry: its form, content and intensity today are. It is matter of concern to sociologists and others that the organized crime against women, more subtle and less crude is the new norm; content is all pervasive and culturally regimented while the intensity is mind- blogging. Contrary to the often repeated claim that industrial revolution of eighteenth century had released a liberating era of humanism based on equality, liberty, and fraternity, ground reality is that the position of woman has worsened from what it was from pre-industrial phase. |

REDEFINING THE ROLES OF TEACHER IN DIGITAL ERA |
Author : Mamta Garg |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Today, living in the digital era with terrific speed of explosion of information, advanced technologies and gadgets, reverence for gurus has slowly submerged. The reasons are a lot many; one of these is that teachers of our country do not have a perception about their real role in the education. According to them, their role is confined only up to the imparting of information. The prevailing concept about a teacher as principally a conveyor or purveyor of information, factual or otherwise, needs to be rethinking. To restore the old glorious status a teacher has to assume different roles like knowledge assimilator vs generator, instructor vs facilitator, lecturer vs digital networker, advisor vs assessor, empowering vs controlling etc to awaken the sleeping spirit and provide a vision of greatness for his students. |
