PHILIP LARKIN AS A POET OF DIMINISHING SELF ESTEEM OF ENGLISH CULTURE : A STUDY OF SELECTED POEMS IN THE NORTH SHIP (1945) |
Author : Ishwar Chand |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Philip Larkin, a twentieth century British poet begins writing in a
historical phase when England lost its imperial crown. This change had deep repercussions for the mindset and the way of life in English society. His poetry depicts the changing self-esteem, especially the pessimistic turn in English culture. His focus on dynamics of urban culture and community place him in the tradition of poetry deliberately away from literary modernism. His poetry is often read as a pessimistic representation of his cultural context. But this aspect of Larkin actually emanates from the loss of empire as well as the demise of poetic idiom of hope. This question of mood is structural to the working of Larkin’s imagination. It is mandatory to note
how the poetic persona in his poetry is rooted in the context of consumer culture. Unlike several of his contemporaries, Larkin is a poet of the understatement and irony. His vision is that of a realist who rejects ‘mythy-kitty’ as the style of content of poetry.

Author : Dr. Devendra Singh Bisht |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :This research paper is an effort to find out the relation of
truancy with school satisfaction, home environment, temperament and other personality disorder among high school students. All these four variables play a vital role in overall development of the students. We all are familiar that schools are the main knowledge centre representing the society and process of nation building starts from here with overall development of students. The foundation of responsible citizenship is stepped in the students by these agencies of education. For achieving the goal of overall development and responsible citizen’s personality it is essential that students shall attend their school regularly. Absenting themselves from schools without due permission and appropriate reason comes under the phenomenon of absenteeism of truancy. Absenteeism may be affected by many reasons but when school, home and community joined hands the level of truancy reduced
specifically (Johnson, 1965). Loaded curriculum (Johnson & Orvall, 1956), failure of successful experiences (Jackson, 1964) were some of the school related problems which cause absenteeism. Home is another causable factor of truancy. Healy (1915) reported that parents kept the child at their home for their own convenience. Personality disorders are one of the important aspects which affect the maladjustment of the
individual. Keeping in view the important role of these variables in truancy a sample of 500 high schools students were taken up and selected tools were administered. Results reflected that the coefficient of correlation of responsible, co-operative, warmth, tolerance, affection & Care, Facilities, Parental approval,
Impartialities, Sharing Ideas, Parental encouragement, Harmony for total students were found negatively correlated with absenteeism.

Author : Shinde Ramesh Govindrao and Dr. Kiwne S. B. |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The intension of this paper is to use mathematical models to
predict the population growth of India. India is a South Asian country and a most popular democracy in the world. It is bounded by the Indian ocean in the south, the Arabian sea on the southwest, and the bay of Bengal on the south east. It borders with Pakistan to the west, China, Nepal and Bhutan to the northeast and Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesh to the east. In the Indian ocean, India is the vicinity or proximity of Shrilanka and the Maldives. India’s Andaman and Nicobar
Island share a maritime border with Thailand and Indonesia. India seventh-largest country by area, India is second – most populous country in the world, with over 1.2 billion people. The exponential and the logistic growth models were applied to model the population growth of India using data from 1970 to 2017. The exponential model predicated a growth rate of 2% per annum and also predicted the population to be 3.3491 billion in 2050. We determined the carrying capacity and the vital coefficients 0.0225 and 0.97 respectively. Thus the population growth of India, according to the logistic model is 5% and predicted India’s population to be 6.1009 billion in
2050.

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The quality of teaching, research, and community service of
research scholars in any university system depends on information sources. Information availability, accessibility, and use are essential to the teaching, research, and service activities of research scholars in any university system. One of the critical factors used in determining productivity is research output. Local and international recognition and respect are partly determined by published works. Some highly
productive scholars have been found to be more information rich than their counterparts. Meadow and Yuan (1997) view information as a message that changes the recipients knowledge base. This implies that information adds significantly to the existing knowledge of the user. The information resources and services available in institutional information systems (library, archives, records offices, documentation centers, and data c enters) must be capable of supporting research activities. |

PLANNING FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA – A NEW PERSPECTIVES |
Author : Jyoti Kaurav |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :After 1950 urban and regional planning was introduced to Indian national planning exercises in a systematic and regular manner. It has assumed importance in recent decades for various reasons: the large size of the population of the country; the high rate of population growth, rapid urbanization, large scale rural-urban migration, the reflection of ruralurban,
regional and intra-rural disparities and the existence of a large
population below the poverty line are some of the important and pressing issues which have created strong awareness for strengthening the urban and regional planning activities in the country. Despite continuous efforts and trials, India has not been able to make a real breakthrough in controlling
the range of problems and particularly in alleviating rural and urban poverty. It is important to record that about
18% of the urban population live in slums in towns of all classes, and 19% of the urban population are below the
poverty line as against 28% in rural areas, as of 1990. The problems are getting worse and becoming more
complex, a consequence of the increased and rapid urbanization from decade to decade. The urbanization in India
is more of a statistical and demographic phenomenon than a real improvement in the quality of life. With limited
resources and means, it is extremely difficult to fulfill the housing, infrastructure, community facilities and services,
and employment which can provide a minimum standard of living in urban areas. The higher growth of informal
activities and institutions is the support factor which makes city life to a greater extent sustainable. The situation in
rural areas is definitely worse but less cumbersome, as the problems are manifested in a dispersed way. Hence, the
purpose of this paper is to make a review of the situation relating to urban and regional development planning as
practiced in India in the post-Independence period. The paper aims to focus on development issues, development
projects and programmes, policy and guidelines, the framework of planning organizations and development administration and the future direction of planning and development. |

THE QUALITY PHYSICAL EDUCATION ON HEALTHY LIVING |
Author : Kum. Chennamma D. Chilamur and Dr. D. M. Jyoti |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :A quality physical education program provides learning
opportunities, appropriate instruction, meaningful and challenging content, and student and program assessment. In addition, a quality physical education improves mental alertness, academic performance, and readiness and enthusiasm for learning in our nation’s youth. The
public is generally aware that being healthy is important. However, the public may not know, or understand, the importance of physical education. Opinions regarding past physical education experiences in school often distort the link between quality physical education and personal health. Central to the association between physical education and health is the teacher. Teachers trained as physical educators exhibit higher levels of effective teacher behaviors (Constantinides et al., 2013) and create quality physical education programs. Trained physical education teachers can achieve, for example, greater physical fitness improvement in children than physical education teachers who lack appropriate training (Starc&Strel, 2012). According to the latest Shape of the Nation Report (NASPE, 2012), both the National Association of Sport and Physical Education and the American Heart Association believe
physical activity achieved through participation in physical education improves one’s overall well-being and is one of the best preventers of significant health problems linked to many chronic diseases (e.g., obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol). No other school subject has the potential to fulfill these health needs. If schools are to make a positive impact on our children’s’ health now and in the future, physical education
must be present in schools, be taught by qualified teachers, and focus on healthy behaviors.

Author : Apurba Saha |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Ideals of liberal humanism is one of the main features of the
cultural tradition of ancient India. Rabindranath Tagore had great respect for the traditions of ancient India. He himself was a worshipper of humanism and had dreamt of teaching not only to the Indians but to the people of the world at large the essence of humanism. He wanted a re-evaluation and modernization of the ancient traditions. He wanted a
fusion of the Western scientific reasoning with the glorious ancient traditions of India. He had dreamt of reviving the ancient glory of India. But at the same time he had said that we should not refuse the best of the West but should assimilate the best of the West with the best of the East. Assimilation was his key word – assimilation of the best of the East and the best of the West – that would give birth to his dream India. He had advised holistic education for India to give birth to perfect and complete man.

"WHAT IS THE DIAGNOSIS, DOCTOR?": FINANCIAL HEALTH ASSESSMENT MODEL FOR SMALL BRAZILIAN MUNICIPALITIES IN THE NORTHEAST ACCORDING TO THE 10-POINT TEST |
Author : Marco Túlio José de Barros Ribeiro, Dr.d , Wellington Silva Porto, Dr.d , Luiz Carlos Miranda, Ph.D , Raimundo Nonato Rodrigues, Dr. , Yony de Sá Barreto Sampaio, Ph.D |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Contributing to the availability of tools aimed at performance
measurement adapted to the Brazilian reality, this study aims to present a model for assessing the financial condition for small brazilian municipalities in the Northeast with up to 20,000 inhabitants according to the 10-Point Test. For evaluation, the study developed by Brown (1993), with the necessary adaptations of the financial indicators to the Brazilian reality according to the research of Diniz, Macedo and Corrar
(2012), will be based on the study. The evaluation stages consist of the calculation of the ten indicators proposed for each small municipality in the Northeast, a comparison of the city indicator in relation to similar municipalities and the proper
classification of the financial condition. The accounting data and number of inhabitants of the municipalities will be those made available by FINBRA, a database linked to the Brazilian Public Sector Accounting and Tax Information System (SICONFI) for the most current year available (2016) and duly exported to the Excel worksheet. The proposal is to segregate the municipalities according to the population size, totalizing four groups. For each of the four groups, a Box and Whisker (boxplot) model will be established to evaluate the empirical data distribution, using the RStudio environment (version 1.1.383) present in the software R (version 3.4.3). The financial crisis that afflicts all levels of Brazilian government has given a boost to the
reform of the public finance landscape. It is in this scenario that the model described in this article contributes to the continuous evaluation of the small Northeastern cities with up to 20,000 inhabitants, providing a quick and intuitive tool, as opposed to other sophisticated and expensive techniques that overload the
management time and the public budget municipal. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :In view of the obligation to include environmental education at all levels of education as an integrated discipline, the main objective of this research is to verify how the themes related to socio-environmental responsibility can be discussed from the point of view of the cinema in the classroom. To reach the expected results, we sought to know the theoretical-pedagogical aspects regarding the use of cinema in learning
environments; addressing socio-environmental responsibility in the classroom in higher education from the context of transversality; map films that illustrate the issue of socio-environmental responsibility; and propose a model of a compiled, minuted and contextualized table of films for use in the classroom. This is an exploratory, qualitative and documentary research, since the films are cinegraphic documents that consist of a type of literary work in the format of moving images. The data collection was done with an intentional nonprobabilistic sample, with the analysis of 21 films, whose scope was the cataloging, filtering, selection, edition, tabulation and presentation of scenes that illustrate the themes related to socio-environmental responsibility,
and which could be used in the context of the classroom. As a result, the research organized the minution of 64 scenes edited and arranged in a table adapted from Luz and Peternela (2012), contextualizing each scene and linking them to the possible theoretical approaches of the topics related to socio-environmental responsibility, which the teacher can use to disciplines of this nature in the course of Accounting Sciences. |

SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONDITIONS OF SCHEDULED TRIBES IN ANDHRA PRADESH |
Author : M. SREENU |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :India has the second largest tribal population in the world next to African countries. Out of total population of India, STs found 8.27%. Of these 1.95% is primitive tribes. The highest concentration of schedule tribes is found in North-East states. The framers of Indian constitution were very much respectful towards the welfare and development of our indigenous tribal population. Tribal communities in the inaccessible regions continue to live in their own ‘little world’ struggling along against the elements of nature and depending largely on its boundary Tribes are at different phases of transition. Some tribes have dropped their practices of nomadism now and have largely settled as cultivators. Their mode of farming is no more shifting and unstable. They have combined the occupations like animal husbandry, beekeeping and cultivation of fruits. They have terraced very large tracts on the mountain slopes and the
forest areas. |

Author : Dr. M. Revathi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Swami Vivekananda utters “Education is the manifestation of
the perfection already in man”. However, the present day education is primarily focusing on the manifestation of the perfection of man in the world with good employability skills and good communication skills. After the upsurge of IT and with the concept of globalization, lot of change has been witnessing in the present education system. Acquiring English skills apart from the core subjects is mandatory for the learners in the present situation to excel themselves in this digital era. But
process of learning language skills is not up to the mark. The reason may be that the learning procedure is based on particular curriculum. With this, learners’ concentration turns
towards learning answers to the questions as learning of core subjects. Even learning of grammar is also in conventional method of doing exercises in the classroom. With all these, they just obtain good academic record with good grades. But, when it comes to the usage in real life situations they are not because they are unable to use appropriate words and phrases to convey their message at their work places. At this juncture,
the present paper attempts to illustrate the importance of English for specific purposes which generate interest in stakeholders to learn the language with much ease and interest. |

CASHLESS SYSTEM IN MODERN BUSINESS-EVOLUTION OF ELECTRONIC TRANSACTIONS |
Author : S. Nandhinipriya |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :India is trying to leapfrog into digital, it has a long way to go.
Sweden, South Korea, Denmark, Canada have high percentage of cashless transactions—as high as 75-85%. Norway has stopped cheques. Of course, these countries are either smaller, or have a more educated population, higher penetration of organised retail and higher awareness about digital than India. India continues to be driven by the use of cash; less than 5% of all payments happen electronically however the finance
minister, in 2016 budget speech, talked about the idea of making India a cashless society, with the aim of curbing the flow of black money. This paper focused on the importance and problems of cashless economy and electronic transaction. It is observed that India has almost half-a-dozen methods for cashless payments. And yet users can’t leave home without cash. Demonetisation accelerated a shift to digital payments, but will take lot more time to become the prime payment option. |

A GLIMPSE INTO THE NINETEENTH SOCIETY AS REFLECTED IN POETIC WORKS |
Author : Kirtika Ghosh |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Literary representation can offer us reflections of the life and
times of a particular age. In my research paper I intend to take up certain poems published in the nineteenth century which can offer us a better understanding of the city and country divide. Written during the period of industrial revolution, the poems register the migration of population to the cities in search of work, the changing relations of production from the primitive and agrarian methods to that of the machines. If the beginning of the nineteenth century saw the call of Wordsworth’s ‘back to nature’ and the Romantics yearning for the rustic life, the late Victorian embraced the city life and sang the verses of progress. But in the later Romanic as well as Victorian period we see a shift in the taste of writing. The response to the new is essentially thus set in paradox. Our examination of Wordsworth’s ‘Composed upon Westminister Bridge’ becomes the starting point of such a discovery. Poems of the time were more inclined towards expressing the beauty of city in place of wild natural beauty. For some poets like William MC Gonagall, the city life became a new subject of creation. In the poem, “A Toccata of Galuppi’s” by Robert Browning, we get a sketch about the Industrial Revolution and how the population shift to the city resulted as a consequence of the same. Again in the poem, “Duns Scotus’s Oxford” by Manley Hopkins, we get a direct proof of the shift. We also witness the poet suggesting a kind of tension between City and Country. This tension is later on turned into disgust and frustration as a result of industrialised city life, in the hands of poets like William Blake and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. While examining the shift from the rural to the urban, critics have emphasizes more on finding a reflection of such changing patterns in novels and theatres.
Poems have majorly either been overlooked or have not been treated with adequate importance. In my paper I will focus more on the lesser known poets as well as the famous writers of the Victorian period and will try to show how the city shapes up as a part of their idealized subject of study. |

MGNREGP AND WOMEN’S PARTICIPATION IN INDIA – A CASE STUDY |
Author : Thirunahari Seshaiah |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The eleventh five year plan marks a significant departure from
the conventional way of looking at women in plan document. It tries to mark the centrality of women in all sectors. It explicitly recognizes, probably for the first time, that women are not just equal citizens but agents of economic and social growth. According to UN Women (2013) The Mahatma Gandhi Nation Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in India and the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) in South Africa are examples of important safety nets for women. It further analyses various risk associated with the women during the
working time of MGNREGA. The study finds that the MGNREGA
increases income and expenditure of the households compared over the pre MGNREGA period and the scheme significantly enhances the social and economic decision making power to women in the men dominated rural society. Hence the scheme ensures improved standard of living of the vulnerable poor, more specifically among women. It also finds that poor worksite facility, hot climate condition and reduction of leisure time put them much hardship during the working hours of MGNREGA. |

COMPARATIVE STUDY OF REPORTED SPEECH WITH THE HELP OF TEACHERS AND LEARNER’S GRAMMAR BOOKS |
Author : Gaikwad Ravindra Vilas |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :A teacher’s Grammar contains more information than a
learner’s grammar. The level of the teacher’s knowledge must always be higher than the learners. It will help the learner to solve his/her problems. The learner’s grammar is meant to help the learner to learn how to use a language. Generally the knowledge of the learner is less than the teacher so the learner’s grammar must be easy to understand. I have choose the grammar topic ‘Reported Speech’ for the comparison
because the use of reported speech is important for good communication skills. Reported speech is the expression of the ideas of others, as well as our own. Reported speech includes some tricky transformations; we will be in a comfortable position to use reported speech in our conversations.

LEVELS OF MERCURY IN SOILS OF THE VEGETABLES PLANTATIONS COLLECTED IN ONE INDIGENOUS LAND OF THE STATE OF RONDÔNIA, WESTERN AMAZON |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Mercury has a cumulative effect on living organisms and can
cause serious health problems in medium and long time to humans who ingest this toxic element through the consumption of food of animal and plant origin. This is because mercury when present in soils can reach plants through soil absorption and also fish when leached from soil to rivers. The situation is aggravated when it comes to the indigenous population that has in fish the main protein source, as well as consuming
in considerable quantities several vegetables that produce in their villages. This study aimed to quantify total mercury (THg) in 216 soil samples collected during the seasons of the rainy and dry in areas of planting of three villages in the Rio Branco indigenous Land, in the western region of the state of Rondônia,
in the Brazilian Amazon. The analyzes were carried in cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometer. All the samples presented THg concentrations below the value of prevention suggested by Brazilian legislation, although for the village Serrinha the values were approximated of the maximum value regulated as safe. Occurred dispersion greated of THg levels in the soils during the rainy season. It was verified positive
influence of the rainfall contents on the THg in the soils of the plantations of Serrinha village, with the hight average value during the rainy season. The soils collected in the plantations of the village Serrinha had average levels of THg higher than those found in the soils of the villages Nazaré and Trindade, suggesting a possibility of greater exposure of the Serrinha plantactions through the consumption of the plants produced in
the areas where the soils analyzed in this study were collected. The continuity of the research is suggested in the sense of dosing mercury in the vegetal foods produced in these villages, because they are foods very present in the diet of these indigenous and may have their concentrations increased in function of the content of this element in the soils of these villages.

CONTRIBUIÇÃO AO CONHECIMENTO FITOQUÍMICO E DA ATIVIDADE ODONTOFARMACOLOGICA DA ESPÉCIE Ziziphus joazeiro Martius (RAMNOSACEAE). |
Author : Carlos Augusto da Silva Santana , Vânia Neves Lopes and Natalia Velásquez Oliveira |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :O Ziziphus joazeiro Martius conhecido popularmente como juá,

WALKING A FINE LINE: ETHICAL CONFLICTS ANDCLINICAL RESEARCH ON VULNERABLE POPULATIONS |
Author : Hema Prasad |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Clinical research on vulnerable populations, whose informed
consent is problematic, has produced some amazing results. In fact, research in the 19thand 20th centuries has led to medication, vaccinations, treatments and surgery that have extended the average human lifespan. But research is not without controversy, and these improvements are not without a dark side. These developments of clinical research forced us to consider ethical, legal, social and biomedical issues such as: How can we ensure that clinical research on vulnerable populations studies provide the most good to the greatest
number of patients? How can we protect vulnerable populations while they are part of a study? The four pillars of medical ethics i.e. autonomy, justice, beneficence and nonmaleficence can be applied to difficult ethical situations in different context of practice and research. Again consequentialism and deontology are the two ethical theories cited to defend different positions in
vulnerable populations’ research. Kant’s principle of respect for persons as autonomous ends-in themselves is at the core of the deontological traditions. On the other J.S.Mill’s principle of liberty is at the core of liberal tradition. In this point Nuremberg Code, Belmont Report, Declaration of Helsinki etc. guidelines are important. |
