Author : Dr. Geetha Gopinath and Dr.T. Sumalini |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The development of technology and corresponding progress in every field has enabled the use of
diagnostic tools for better alleviation of the human distress in every field especially the field of mental health
and education. However, the danger of misdiagnosis and/or noon-identification of the real areas of deficits
can be extremely debilitating. This paper deals with a new but most important area of ‘awkwardness’ which
has not been identified as an area of concern. It has been wrongly clubbed with Autism or totally ignored.
Picking up from Tashiro’s (2017) book, “Awkward, The science of why we’re Socially Awkward and why that’s
Awesome,” the author tries to bring in a new dimension of understanding to enable teachers identify and
empower students with such difficulties. Tashiro was himself a person who overcame awkwardness to attain
a doctorate in psychology. He has developed a scale for awkwardness which has been provided as also the
negative manifestations of awkward traits and its conversion to positive traits. The author does not intend to
bring in a new label in diagnosis, rather is interested in providing teachers a better tool to prevent students
who do not fit into the existing framework of disabilities to promote growth. |

GENESIS AND EXPANSION OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IN INDIA |
Author : Shuchi Bharti |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The assessment of the existing literature on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and social
development showcase paucity of research studies in the field connecting the practicing realities of CSR to a
stable and workable law and regulatory theoretical framework. The preponderance of business and
management discipline in the theoretical groundwork of CSR has led to gaps and missing links when the
deeper analysis is sought in terms of exploring the origins of CSR, its inclusion within specific regulatory arena
and the trends that are being imposed with multiple governance fabrics in the contemporary scenario (Carroll
and Shabana 2010). Although the growth of CSR processes and practices have been explosive worldwide,
there remains miniscule understanding pertaining to critical components such as theoretical framework,
contemporary shift and implications of such developments. |

WHAT SECURITY IS AND WHAT IS NOT? |
Author : Pfokrelo Kapesa |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The term security is full of ambiguity and has become a much contested notion of late. Within the
discipline of international relations, the traditional study and discussion of security revolves around issues of
war and peace in an international system among and between self-interested nation states with
overwhelming focus on military security. Feminists and other critical scholars have raised the question:
security for whom? Feminists define security broadly in multidimensional or multilevel terms – as the
diminution of all forms of violence, including physical, structural, and ecological. According to most IR
feminists, security threats include domestic violence, rape, poverty, gender subordination, and ecological
destruction as well as traditional wars. Rape in war is in direct correlation to the study of women, their health
and development. This paper will attempt to analyse security from a feminist perspective by illustrating how
sex slavery/sexual exploitation and rape are threats to women’s security and why this is not seen as a
security threat though it threatens half the population. Sex slavery and rape has been used as instruments of
war since time immemorial and even institutionalised by states; (the Japanese and the ‘Comfort Women’
during the World War II, the American in the Vietnam War, the Bosnian Civil War, etc).

POLITICS BETWEEN INDIA AND CHINA: CHINESE RESISTANCE TO INDIAN NUCLEAR IDENTITY |
Author : Shubhra Chaturvedi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :India has been the focus of analysis whenever nuclear identities are studied. Not only has it seen
different stages from an outlier to a responsible state but has also managed to carve a different position for
itself in the holier than thou nuclear club. This was despite the imposing nuclear norms. While it detonated
the first device in 1974, it was the 1998 tests that brought India into the lime light. China being the only
nuclear power in Asia till then, felt the dynamics change suddenly. Although the world have to accept India’s
nuclear identity China took its time and proved that nuclear possession made the transition for any state
from a third world country to a major player in the world power play. This study looks at the Chinese
hesitation in accepting that identity of India in spite of its close ties with Pakistan and strong rhetorical
support for nuclear norms. In order to examine the complex relationship and balance between identity
creation and acceptance in foreign policy decision making and the role conception seen as an extension of
this dynamics, this article will examining the example of the relations between India and China post 1998. In
the process I look at two aspects of identity acceptance- one by India accepting China as the ‘enemy’ that
disturbed the ‘rapprochment’, and the other acceptance of India by China as the ‘potential ally’. The two
instances changed the entire dynamics of the relationship between the two states. |

Author : Moumita Biswas |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Plastic was first invented in 1862 and becomes an essential part in everyone’s daily life. The demand
for plastic commodities increases rapidly from 1.5 million tons in 1950 to 245 million tons in 2008 and the
annual growth rate is nearly 9%.It seems to be one of the biggest potential growth areas in rapidly
developing countries like India. Nowadays a serious problem emerges with this commodities as plastics
mostly used in food packaging is practically non-degradable and takes nearly 60 to 70 decades or even more
to decay. These plastics create a serious environmental pollution regarding solid waste. Today about 4%
volume of total one lakh tons of solid waste generates everyday are acquired by plastics. The uncontrolled
waste often finds their way to the vacant land and road side drains resulting in land degradation, soil erosion
and severe water logging. |

Author : Shinde Ramesh Govindrao and Dr. Kiwne S.B |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :In the present research article we study the fundamental differential equation of the neoclassical
economical growth model subject to foreign financing. We achieved a threshold parameter ? ?1, which can
be consumed to command a national financial network for exportation and its foreign liability. It is observed
that the fundamental equation of neoclassical economic growth is achieved from the association of the
income identity, gross investment identity and production function of time (t). Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
can be consumed, invested or used to assist foreign liability. The durability characters of the differential
model are also studied. This model relies on simplifying assumption. These assumptions extract the
development of the model. An assumption is best when it helps us to build a model for the observations and

MELVILLE’S QUEST FOR CERTAINTY: QUESTING AND SPIRITUAL STABILITY IN HERMAN MELVILLE |
Author : Dr. Devesh Gautam and Dr. Laxmikant Tripathi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :This paper investigates Herman Melville’s quest for spiritual stability and certainty in his novel MobyDick.
The analysis establishes a philosophical tradition of doubt towards the Bible, outlining the philosophies
of Thomas Hobbes, Benedict de Spinoza, David Hume, Thomas Paine and John Henry Newman. This historical
survey of spiritual uncertainty establishes the issue of uncertainty that Melville writes about in the nineteenth
century. Having assessed the issue of doubt, I then analyze Melville’s use of metaphorical charts, which his
characters use to resolve this issue. Finally, I present Melville’s philosophical findings as he expresses them
through the metaphor of whaling. Here, I also scrutinize Melville’s depiction of nature, as well as his
presentation of the dichotomy between contemplative and active questing, as represented by the characters
Ishmael and Ahab. |

EXAMINING THE STATE OF INDIAN HEALTHCARE SECTOR AND A GLANCE AT “CSR” INITIATIVES |
Author : CMA Dr. Samyabrata Das and Dr. Samarpita Seth |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The healthcare sector plays a major role in maintaining the health and well-being of the people of a
nation. At the same time, it contributes to the economic development of a country. India lacks the financial
resources required to make stronger its pitiable healthcare infrastructure. India’s investment in public health
has remained around 1% of its GDP, making it one of the lowest in the world. The government is deviating
from its core strategies by not rising the share for the healthcare sector. The Companies Act, 2013 requires
companies above a certain financial threshold to spend at least 2% of their average net profit of the
preceding three years on corporate social responsibility (CSR). The concept of CSR has the potential to bring a
transformation in the healthcare sector. It is witnessed that education, health, sanitation and rural
development remained key focus areas of CSR initiatives. It is argued that the existing CSR approach is
scattered and healthcare outreach initiatives by the companies are happening in pockets. Nonetheless, with
rising fiscal deficit and leakages in the welfare schemes, CSR makes an attempt to address the problems of
the society in a cost-effective manner. In this background, the objectives of the study are: (a) To study the
state of the Indian healthcare sector, (b) To understand the financing of the healthcare needs of Indians over
the years, (c) To look at CSR initiatives in the Indian healthcare sector, and (d) To explore the alternative ways
of financing the Indian healthcare sector. |

ROLE OF ACCOUNTING DISCLOSURE IN FINANCIAL HEALTH: A STUDY WITH REFERENCE TO FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS IN IRAN |
Author : Dr. K. Manoharan Nair and Alireza Kaab |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :During the past two decades, various measures have been adopted to promote and advance
accounting in Iran via harmonizing the domestic accounting practices with International norms and
standards. Although Iran has employed International Accounting Standards as the basis for developing its
National Accounting Standards, there are still some differences between Iranian and international standards,
and there are some certain International Accounting Standards that are not applicable in Iran. A host of
endemic factors, such as existing laws and rules, religious beliefs, culture, economic and political conditions,
have influenced the National Accounting Standards setting processes. IFRS adoption is mandatory for
countries such as EU (Europe Union) listed countries while is voluntary for some countries like Iran. But
because the adoption benefits cannot be ignored, Over the past two decades, the Iranian accounting
standards setter, Audit Organization, has decided to eliminate the differences between IFRS and NAS as a
part of its convergence and harmonization project. In 2011, the Audit Organization decided that IFRS
implementation would be permitted for all listed companies. The primary purpose of implementing IFRS is to
enhance the international comparability of financial reports, which would attract more foreign investors to
participate in the Iranian capital market, improve the efficient allocation of resources and boost the
competitiveness of the market. In spite of her announcement, Iran has not supported IFRS. In this context a
study is made to look into the issues in the implementation of IFRS in Iranian financial institutions.

Author : Dr. Anand Shrimant |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Muscular fitness denotes the functional efficiency of the muscular system and it encompasses the
components of Muscular Strength, Muscular Power, Muscular Endurance and Muscular Flexibility. Muscular
strength is described as the ability of maximum amount of resistance that can be overcome by a muscle
group or groups of muscles in a single maximum effort. Muscular power represents the capacity of the
explosive nature of a particular muscle group or groups of muscles and represents the capacity of overcoming
resistance in terms of time. Muscular endurance refers to the ability of overcoming the lighter amount of
resistance over a number of times in sustainable manner by the muscles or groups of muscles without being
fatigued quickly. Muscular flexibility refers to the ability of having higher elasticity in the muscles or groups of
muscles leading to higher tonus for the muscles or groups of muscles and thereby allowing higher range of
motion of the proximal joint of such muscles. Though muscular strength is not identified as a component of
health fitness, but the muscular endurance and the muscular flexibility are included as components of health
fitness. In terms of physical performance and sports performances all the four are included as fitness
components and to excel in sports all the four muscular components are essential in different proportions
keeping in view of the sporting activity involved. Even sports participation also is viewed as a means of
enhancing health to individuals, whereas the concept of excellence in sports leads to the concept of
recreation to human beings. In terms of sports performance the muscular power component is highly valued.
It would be ideal to possess the attitude of physical fitness and if the attitude of physical fitness can be
inculcated in the adolescents and youth, it would serve excellent benefits to the society and to nation. Though
the physical fitness comes by involvement in physical exercises scientifically designed, it can also happen due
to the type of lifestyle and the physical activity requirements of the regular life could also influence this
attitude. The Dairy Science College students are one important student population with a specific study
pattern and they study different streams of study or branches of study and would require different kinds of
physical movements during their study period, which could cause lasting influence on their lifestyle and on

Abstract | Full Text |

Author : Valério Urbano da Silva Neto and Melquizedec Arcos Rodrigues |
Abstract | Full Text |

Abstract :Globalization and liberalization of the economy has increased the competition among corporate
sector. It also emerges in human being as a result of pressures emanating from several experiences or
challenging situation. Organisational life is quite stressful. Work pressures, tight schedules, meetings,
unhelpful colleagues, critical bosses, incompetent subordinates made the life of executives quite miserable.
Individuals and organisations have to pay economic and human cost due to these problems. Stress is defined
as “the non-specific response of the body to any demand placed upon it”. Stress at work can be a real
problem to the organization as well as for its workers. Good management and good work organization are
the best forms of stress prevention. If employees are already stressed, their managers should be aware of it
and know to help. Work related stress is the response people may have when present with work demands
and pressures that are not matched to their knowledge and abilities and which challenge their ability to cope.

have changed the whole environment. This change in environment has encouraged and motivated the
women for search of work outside the home, which creates stress in women who handled the role of

dispute is preferable as it is based on the principle of voluntarism and provides an opportunity to the parties
to choose their trusted, independent and neutral person to resolve their disputes and provide, probably, a
longer lease of life for industrial peace. Attempt has been made in this article to present the status of
voluntary arbitration with certain hidden drawbacks and to come with some suggestion. |

GOVERNING THE MANY FACES OF THE GOVERNOR |
Author : Adv. Dr. Arjun Singh |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Governors have, in the past, employed various ways to determine which party or group is likely to
command a majority in the Legislative Assembly. Some have relied only on lists of supporters of rival
claimants produced before them, as in Bihar (June 1968) when the Congress Party was called upon to form a
government. In some cases, physical verification by counting heads was carried out as in the case of Gujarat
(1971), when the leader of the newly formed Congress (C) Party was called upon to form the government.
Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh (1967), the leader of the Congress Party was appointed Chief Minister after the
Governor had physically counted his supporters. In the case of Rajasthan (1967), physical verification was
resorted to and the leader of the Congress Party was called upon to form the Government; but, in
determining the relative strengths of the Congress Party and Samyukta Dal, the Independents were ignored.
If they had been taken into account, the result might well have been different. Further, when the leader of
the Congress Party did not form the government, the leader of the opposition group was not called upon to
do so; instead, Presidents rule was imposed. A majority of the State Governments do not find anything
wrong with the institution of the Governor. However, a few of them have time and again demanded
abolition of the post of the Governor. |

ANALYSIS OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE PRACTICES AMONG LISTED GROUP COMPANIES OF BUSINESS GROUPS ON SELECT INDICATORS |
Author : Mr. Sanjay Pandurang Parab |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Corporate governance essentially involves ‘balancing the interest of the many stakeholders’ in a
corporate. Corporate governance is the primary focus of the 21st Century in the wake of increasing
integration of world economies and growth of multi-national companies. Few economists describe the
corporation as ‘a nexus of contracts’ leading towards its creation and existence. Governance is related with
the efficient controlling of activity of the corporate sector (Fernando, 2009). Indeed, assessment of
effectiveness of governance of corporate houses as a general as well within different firms under broad
controller is not only challenging and subjective. In past, attempts have been made by few researchers, to
quantitatively assess board attributes vis-a-vis performance without reference to business house which
controls those companies or intra group companies in a particular business house. The various board
attributes represented in terms of board leadership, CEO duality, frequency of meetings, board diversity,
representation of independent (outsider director) is been used as an independent variables and its impact on
financial performance. |

AN OVERVIEW OF WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN INDIA |
Author : Shivakumar S. Sangan |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Development of an economy is possible only through entrepreneurship. This development should be
shared by both male and female entrepreneurs, irrespective of the differences. It is popularly held that
women have been physically and psychologically inferior to their counterparts. This low status of women is
further intensified through social and religious stigmas. As a result, women’s role in economic development
has been reduced to a perfunctory participation. However, such a perfunctory role is being replaced through
a dynamic role because of the emphasis on women’s emancipation movement through women
empowerment, higher literacy rate, the inherent quality of technical ability and institutional arrangements
encouraging women in all segments of the economy. As a result, women have emerged as a different class of
society by themselves. Women entrepreneurs are in no way different from men in starting and running the
enterprises. |
