| Association between Giant Cell Arteritis and Hyperthyroidism: An Unusual Case Report from Madagascar | Author : Ernestho-Ghoud Indretsy Mahavivola , Soilihi Moustafa Abdou , Rakotonaivo Andoniaina , Rajaonarison Ny Ony Narindra Lova Hasina , Raveloson Nasolotsiry Enintsoa , Ahmad Ahmad , Vololontiana Hanta Marie Danielle | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA), formerly known as Horton Disease associated to the hyperthyroidism has been rarely
reported. In this paper, we aimed to discuss a case that illustrating such association. The case consisted of 70-year-old woman
who complained a sudden diffuse vision loss in the left eye since a week. Laboratory test showed hyperthyroidism. The cerebral
CT-scan without contrast media revealed left ischemic stroke complicated by left choroidopathy. GCA and hyperthyroidism are
considered independent and their coexistence was attributed to independent processes related to ischemic stroke. |
| | In Vitro Cytotoxic Activity of Different Viscum Album Potencies in Glioma Cells | Author : Ana Catarina Viana Valle, Hilana Dos Santos Sena Brunel, Andrêssa De Rezende Bastos Araújo,Aloisio Cunha De Carvalho | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The incidence of cancer has dramatically increased around the world. Among the different types, glioma (brain cancer) represents the majority of diagnosed brain tumors and is known to be a rapidly developing tumor with a high mortality rate. Therapies with viscum album have performed well in cancer treatments and have been the subject of many studies. This work evaluated the in vitro action of homeopathic medicines prepared with viscum album against glioma cells (KNS-42) and was possible to prove the cytotoxic activity of viscum album at D3, D6, D9, D12, and D30 potencies. This result broadens opportunities for homeopathy in cancer treatment as the primary therapy or as a complementary treatment. |
| | Affects the Altituted in the Presence of Premature Necrotizing Enterocolitis in Premature Babies Born in Latin America at Sea Level Versus 2000 Meters Above Sea Level, Between 2015 And– 2020? | Author : Alvarez Dominguez Yelena. Md , Hoyos, Angela. Md , Vasquez Hoyos, Pablo.Md , Aguinaga Romero, Fernando. Md | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Necrotizing enterocolitis (NE) is a common disease with a high associated mortality. NE is more common in preterm
and low-birth-weight newborns, as well as patients with anemia, heart disease such as patent ductus arteriosus, sepsis or hypoxia at
birth and patients receiving formula, among other causes. The pathophysiology of this disease is the premature exposure of the
intestinal immune system to the intestinal flora. This premature exposure causes inflammation, mucosa disruption, vasoconstriction,
and necrosis. This increases the risk of infectious pathogens that further damage the intestinal barrier and alter the bacterial flora.
(2), perpetuating the local lesion (8), increasing morbidity and mortality. One third of these patients will eventually require surgery.
Currently, there is no conclusive data on the risk of necrotizing enterocolitis at different altitudes in Latin America. Clarifying the
effect of altitude in this disease will be essential in the management and prognosis of neonates affected by this illness(1). |
