Health officials in the United States have said they have found a rare but dangerous strain of a bacteria in soil and some Mississippi water samples.The bacterium, called Burkholderia pseudomallei, can make some people extremely ill if they come into contact with it.However, in most people who are healthy, the bacterium does not cause the serious disease called melioidosis, which must be treated with antibiotics.Doctors are now alerted to the possibility of infecting someone.The disease is dangerous for people who have other diseases such as diabetes and chronic kidney disease.The American Centers for Disease Control CDC are advising the most vulnerable residents to avoid contact with soil with dirty water, especially after heavy rains.
