| Journal Description : | „Polish Journal of Surgery” (ISSN: 0032-373X) is one of the oldest scientific journals not only in our country but also in Europe. The Journal appears since 1920 and is the official organ of the Association of Polish Surgeons, which brings together all Polish surgeons since 1889 and currently has nearly 5,000 doctors - members. The huge value of the Journal is the fact that it is the only Polish scientific journal that publishes articles in all areas of surgery that compose general surgery. This gives Polish surgeons an opportunity to share knowledge and publish results of their research.
Specializations falling within the scope of the magazine, in addition to the widely understood general surgery, are: surgery, oncology, surgery, thoracic, plastic and reconstructive surgery, gastroenterology and vascular surgery.
All paperwork’s are published both in Polish and English. All articles are published in Open Access. Editorial Staff does not collect any fees from the authors of articles admitted for publication.
From the very beginning of the Journal (which was interwar period) Editorial Committee comprises of eminent Polish scientists and surgeons. Moreover, the Committee includes foreign scientists from the US, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, China, Denmark, who account for approximately 50% of the total composition of the Committee. World War II was the only period during its nearly century-old history, that „Polish Journal of Surgery” was not issued.
Foreign scientists publish their works in the Journal. Among others, from the USA, Germany, Great Britain, Italy and Japan, Denmark, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia. The share of paperwork’s published by foreign authors is approximately 20%.

The journal is also indexed in PubMed - the world's largest database of medical journals. All the published articles are available for doctors and medical scientists from around the world. The number of citations of the journal is growing rapidly in recent years
„Polish Journal of Surgery” (0032-373X) publishes original papers, review works, case reports, improvements to surgical technique and others related to any aspect of surgery.
Articles submitted to the journal are reviewed also by international reviewers. All manuscripts are evaluated by two independent, anonymous reviewers. Rules of the Journal's reviewing procedure are available on the Journal website. The list of reviewers cooperating with the Journal is published once a year. Editorial Committee adopted best practices and ethical standards for scientific journals, evaluates and makes the final decision about the publication of submitted work guided by recommendations developed by the ICMJE and COPE. |
