Journal Description : | SSJSSH is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal (free for readers) that deals with both applied and theoretical issues. The journal is published by the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Morogoro, Tanzania.
The journal publishes full papers from various fields including agricultural development, development studies, planning and management, project management and evaluation, language issues, gender issues, anthropology, economics, education, geography, history, political science, sociology, and related fields. In addition, some special issues devoted to important socio-economic issues will be published from time to time as needs may arise. The main objective of SSJSSH is to offer an intellectual platform to scholars in the sub-Saharan Africa region and beyond to present their scholarly work hence contributing to society’s development. In addition, the journal aims at promoting multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary debates in social sciences and humanities. Besides full papers, SSJSSH publishes 1) Short Reports of 2 to 4 pages whereby an author can present either preliminary data or an idea with theoretical background but has not yet completed the research needed for a complete paper, and 2) Book Reviews— commentaries and critiques.
Papers to be submitted to SSJSSH must be original. The submitted papers must have neither been published nor submitted for publication consideration elsewhere. Violation of the above rules, if established, will result in an immediate rejection of the submission. Manuscripts should be written in English using the UK English spellings and must include an abstract containing no more than 300 words. A full paper, including an abstract, should not exceed 8,000 words. The SSJSSH will welcome the following types of contributions:
• Original research articles;
• Review articles, providing a comprehensive review on a scientific topic; and
• Book reviews.
All manuscripts and any supplementary material to SSJSSH will be submitted via the journal’s Paper Submission (and Manuscript Tracking) System (PSS) at https://ssjssh.sua.ac.tz/index.php/EAJSSH/submissions. Authors will be required to abide by the instructions to be given on the site.
General Peer-Review Process
All manuscripts to be submitted for publication consideration by the SSJSSH will be thoroughly peer-reviewed. The review process will start with a quick evaluation of the manuscript's suitability by the editorial office. If the manuscript is seen as suitable, it will be blindly reviewed by a minimum of two external reviewers. The review will be preceded by a plagiarism or similarity degree check through TurnItIn where the degree of similarity should be less than 10%. The reports will be sent to the authors necessary to inform them of the status of their manuscripts.
Submitted manuscripts will also undergo a detailed check for plagiarism. The Chief Editor, the Associate Chief Editors, or a board member of the journal together with the Editorial Office will be responsible for the peer-review process.
After a manuscript has been reviewed, the Chief Editor will communicate the verdict about the manuscript based on the reviewers’ comments. The verdict will be communicated to the author(s) by e-mail, and the comments of the two reviewers will be attached. The review process should be completed in a period of not more than 8 weeks from the date of submission. A decision letter will be sent to the Corresponding Author to request for revision of the manuscript as would be suggested by the reviewers. In addition, the author(s) will be asked to format the manuscript according to SSJSSH’s template before it goes into typesetting, proofreading, and publishing. The author will receive the paper in PDF format for checking before it is published online.
Plagiarism Policy
This journal shall not tolerate any acts of plagiarism, since they are recognized as violations of academic rights. Before submitting any article manuscripts, authors are advised to subject their articles to Turnitin for the degree of similarity checking and a report submitted together with the manuscript. Only articles with less than 10% degree of similarity shall be accepted, this can exclude references.
