Introduction to Faculty of Arabic & Islamic Studies and Its Journal Ma’arif-e-Islami
The Faculty of Arabic & Islamic Studies started its functions initially as Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies comprising of departments of Arabic and Islamic studies. Later on the Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies was upgraded to the level of the full fledge faculty in 1999 as required by AIOU Act 1974.
The Faculty was established:
To teach Islamic Studies, Arabic language and literature from Matric to PhD levels as per contemporary requirements.
To conduct advance research on the different aspects of Islamic Studies, Islamic Culture, Arabic Language, Literature and Civilization.
To play leading role in the interpretation of Islamic Teachings, according to the needs of contemporary Pakistani society
To create interfaith harmony and environment of dialogue between Islamic and other civilizations
Ma’arif-e-Islami
The faculty is regularly publishing its referred quality research journal Muarf-e-Islami. This research Journal covers all areas of Islamic Studies and enjoys a good international reputation among scholarly Journals in Urdu, English & Arabic Languages. From Time to time the Journal has brought out special issues on different themes. The land mark publications have been received well by both scholars and general readers. The contributors to Ma’arif-e-Islami include some of the most eminent scholars and thinkers of South Asia.
Ma’arif-e-Islami is an interdisciplinary journal of peer-reviewed research and informed opinion on the various issues of Islamic Studies. Its audience includes scholars, practitioners, religious leaders, policy makers, journalists, and general readers. Intellectually rigorous yet accessible and practical, Ma’arif-e-Islami provides an influential outlet for original scholarship in the Islamic social sciences, law, and humanities, as well as a lively forum for commentary from Islamic perspectives.
Research Articles published in this journal are mandatorily including endnotes and bibliographies of works cited and have undergone initial editorial screening, anonymous peer review by at least two experts of the field, and further editorial review.
Some issues of this journal are special issues dedicated exclusively to a particular theme. Other issues often include special subsections presenting themed symposia of articles and essays. Readers are encouraged to comment on research articles and essays from recent previous issues, writing no more than 500 words. If published, the author of the original article/essay will be given an opportunity to publish a response.
SUBMISSIONS:
All manuscripts, proposals, and letters to the editor must be submitted via email as attachments in Microsoft Word (or compatible) format to: maarifeislami@aiou.edu.pk . Articles and essays should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time. Nor should manuscripts have been published elsewhere in substantially similar form. Manuscripts should include a provisional title and an abstract of up to 200 words in English. In addition, authors are requested to submit a short bio and full CV.
COPYRIGHT/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
It is a condition of publication in this journal that authors assign copyright or license publication rights in their articles to the Ma’arif-e-Islami, Faculty of Arabic & Islamic Studies, Islamabad. This enables editor to ensure full copyright protection and to disseminate the article, and of course the journal, to the widest possible readership in print and electronic formats as appropriate. Furthermore the author are also required to secure permission if they want to reproduce any figure, table, or extract from the text of another source.
