Objective:Characterize the patients admitted to the nursing homes "Caridad Jaca" and "San José" in the city of Guantánamo with a diagnosis of skin cancer in the period 2017-2019.
Method:It was conducted an observational, prospective and cross-sectional study with all the elderly (n=256) with skin cancer (n=15). Studied variables: age, sex, place of birth and lived, personal pathological history, skin phototype, characteristics of the lesion, clinical dermatoscopic and histopathological diagnosis.
Results: 5.9% of the elderly were diagnosed with skin cancer. It was more common in men (53.4%), range age from 60 to 79 (53.4%), were born or lived in urban areas and with skin phototype III (40.0%). 100.0% of the patients were exposed to sunlight, 86.7% without photo-protection means. The cancer was more localized in the face area (66.7%), had between 3 and 4 years of evolution (60.0%) and basal cell carcinoma (46.6%) was the most frequent. Clinical, dermatoscopic and histopathological diagnosis correlation was observed in 80.0 % of the cases.
Conclusions:The rate of skin cancers in erderly is low, however, more attention is needed to ensure early diagnosis of this disease.

| Risk factors on low birth weight in pregnant women of the municipality of Guanabacoa, in Havana, Cuba | Author : Lodixi Cobas-Planchez, Natascha Mezquia-de Pedro | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Introduction:Low birth weight is a major factor in more than 75% of the perinatal mortality.
Objective: To characterize selected factors associated with the risk of low birth weight in pregnancy in the municipality of Guanabacoa, in Havana, Cuba; in the period January 2018 - December 2019.
Method: A prospective, analytic, longitudinal evaluation study was carried out, with information gathered from medical records. The main variables measured were: maternal age; along with other risk factors for low birth weight as: pregnancy-induced hypertension, vaginal discharge syndrome, urinary tract infection, smoking, short birth intervals, previous preterm labors and edema.
Results: The mean age of the patients with low birth weight newborns was 26.7 years of age (p=0.00). The proportion of pregnant women with risk factors was higher in those with low birth weight (p = 0.00); among those factors, the most common were vaginal discharge syndrome (73.0%) and smoking (43.0%). It was found that the more deeply related factor with the risk of a low birth weight newborn were the vaginal discharge syndrome (OR 18.2) and the short birth intervals (OR 11.6).
Conclusions:The proportion of pregnant women with some of the selected risk factors was higher on low birth weight newborn cases.

Objective: To characterize the elderly patients with a psychiatric urgency assisted in the urgency service of the already mentioned institution during the year 2019.
Method: A descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out. The following variables were studied in the total of assisted patients (N=1427): sex, age, area of origin, diagnosis and steps to follow with the patient.
Results: 64.4% of the patients were women and the 35.6% men, with an average age between 60 and 69 years (57.9%) and who came from the south area of the municipality of Guantánamo (30.3%). The most common diagnoses were affective dysfunctions (32.7%), mostly with ambulatory treatment (81.4%).
Conclusions: Itis considerably high the demand on psychiatric attention in urgency service for elderly patients, mainly because of affective dysfunctions that require ambulatory attention.

Objective: to determine the hygienic condition of the removable acrylic prostheses in patients attended in the dental clinics at San Gregorio de Portoviejo University in the period March - August 2019.
Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted using a validated questionnaire and observation worksheet. Allparticipantsin the research provided handwritten signature informed consent form before answering the questionnaire and being examined. Descriptive statistics, frequency and percentage were applied.
Results: a total of 100 patients were evaluated, with higher prevalence in females (74%), and 50 years of age or more (54%). The results show that 53% of the patients use prostheses made for five or more years, and 94% have not attended subsequent checks. The mechanical method (86%) is the most used to sanitize the prostheses, and in 65% of the prostheses was observed accumulation of bacterial plaque and food debris. Most patients (78%) wear their prostheses throughout the day (24 hours) and about half have clinical signs of subprosthetic stomatitis (46%).
Conclusions: Most patients do not comply with the rules of hygiene and use of removable prostheses so a change is needed in their education and monitoring.

Objective: To charactirizethe prescription of thrombolysis in myocardial infarction during the three-year period 2017-2019.
Method:Of the total number of patients with heart attacks in the above-mentioned period (n=75) a descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study was carried out. Variables studied: age, sex, topographic location of the infarction, treatment, clinical evolution, state at discharge and causes of death.
Results: 72.0 % of the patients were men, 37.3 % were 50 and 59 years old. The case fatality rate was 14.7%. Left ventricular infarction was the most common (53.4%) dysfunction. 28.0% of the patients received thrombolytic therapy, because in 68.5% of them, the ischemic was longer than twelve hours. Post-cardiorespiratory moderate ischemic-hypoxic encephalopathy with ventricular fibrillation (54.5%) was the most frequent direct cause of death.
Conclusions:The patients´ rate treated with systemic coronary thrombolysis was insufficient, mainly due to the fact that they attend medical attention 12 hours after the onset of symptoms.

Objective: Maternal morbidity characterization in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Octavio de la Concepción y la Pedraja" in Baracoa, Guantánamo, during 2019.
Method: An observacional, prospective and longitudinal study was conducted of the total of the 66 pregnant and postpartum womenadmittedto the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) between junuary and dicember 2019. Variables used: age, personal pathological history, obstetric situation, applied treatments, way to terminate the pregnancy, complications and stay.
Results: Average age was 16 to 20 years of age. 59.1% among women were postpartum (highest percent), and 43,9 % of them were under cesarean delivery, 71.2% were admitted for some obstetrical condition and only 28.8% for nonobstetrical condition, predominating the ectopic pregnancy (25.7%) and pyelonephritis (9.0%). 89.4% received surgical treatment and 65.1% presented complications, the stay was between 3 and 5 days.
Conclusions:Maternal morbidity occurs at ages appropriate to the reproductive period, mostly during the postpartum stage. Obstetric conditions are the main cause of admission represented by ectopic pregnancy, pre-eclampsia-eclampsia and endometritis.
