The survey covered 443 patients who were reported between the years 2005 and 2010, living in Palmas, Tocantins, which had some degree of physical disability at the diagnosis or at the discharge and / or had experienced immunological reaction. The profile established in the research shows that the patients were mostly male, with higher frequency among 30 to 45 years old, and they were mostly multibacillary and had the dimorphic clinical form. There were statistically significant associations (p <0.01) between the disability grade at diagnosis and the number of nerves affected, pointing to a significant occurrence of late diagnosis. It also was found that the male gender was associated with both the operational classification (multibacillary) and the clinical form (dimorphic). It was concluded that patients who have this profile and are diagnosed late have higher risk of developing physical disabilities. Greater attention to neurologic simplified assessment is also recommended, because not all patients were evaluated about disability in the end of multidrug therapy. |

Author : Rosangela Simonelli Gavi1 Maria José Gomes |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : The National Accreditation Organization has published the Brazilian Manual of Accreditation for Healthcare Service Providers in 2010 and this manual provides the guidelines for the development of an accreditation process for healthcare providers; however, it does not provide standards for a dental accreditation process. The aim of this study was to conceptualize the accreditation of dental care services and present a logical model that can anchor the development of a tool for accreditation of dental care services in Brazil. The Brazilian Manual of Accreditation supported by the health care services of the National Accreditation Organization (ONA) provides guidelines for the development of the accreditation process in health care institutions; however, it does not provide standards for the dental accreditation process. The model proposed has three foci of analysis, six described sections and thirteen described subsections, all considering relevant aspects concerning high quality providers of dental care services. It was possible to conceptualize the accreditation and present a logical model that was designed for the accreditation of Units Providing Dental Care Services (UPDCS) - (UPSAO in Portuguese) and Complexes Providing Dental Care Services (CPDCS) - (CPSAO in Portuguese). |

Author : Graciela Aluizio Reali, Rosemeiry de Castro Prado Maximiano, Murilo Cretuchi Delfino de Oliveira,Nilson César Bertól |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Much has been thought through about how to make the teaching and learning of scientific content more significant in order to collaborate with education. In this sense, it is up to the teacher to know aspects of human behavior to mediate and facilitate the interpretation of incoming information to students so that this information is transformed into knowledge. Therefore, the educator has seen its role as a transmitter of information turning into a facilitator of the transformation of this information into knowledge, a process that depends on both the teacher and the student. Thus, this work presents some aspects related to the teaching and learning of mathematics, highlighting the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) as mediating and helpful tools of learning. It also presents a virtual learning environment, Moodle, which comprehends Geogebra software, presented in a WebQuest so that together they may be used in the future for the teaching and learning of mathematics in OurinhosFatec Technology College, São Paulo - Brazil. It is expected, by means of this work, to contribute to discussions and reflections on some emblematic issues of this new practice and mode, as well as disseminate and encourage the use of Geogebra application |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Children who have intellectual disability plenty of times are deprived from the same opportunities of those who don`t. Concerning sports, these opportunities are still just a few, and in many cases, scarce. In order to make the children learn a sport and use the benefits that it provides, the teacher needs to use teaching strategies and pedagogical resources that give support to the teaching process - learning of the children who have intellectual deficiencies. Having these ideas as the starting point, the project pursued to construct/adapt teaching strategies and pedagogical resources to teach badminton to children with intellectual disabilities. Once week-classes with duration of 50 minutes each (all of them having intellectual deficiency diagnosis) have been applied at APAE in Presidente Prudente. Badminton has been developed through the division of its fundaments. Relating to the ability of holding the racquets, it has been observed that 71,4% of the students need an adaptation concerning the pedagogical resources. Relating to the service reception and ball hitting, it has been found out that 100% of the students need adaptation. It was concluded that teaching strategies and pedagogical resources are extremely precious to perfect the teaching/learning process of people with intellectual disabilities. |

Author : Ariana Aparecida Nascimento dos Santos , Irineu Aliprando Tuim Viotto Filho , Rosiane de Fatima Ponce |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Considering the difficulties and limitations that Down’s Syndrome individuals have and taking into account historic-cultural theory’s contributions to understand the voluntary memory as fundamental to human development, it has been investigated the role played by dance, as a body language that allows the symbolic expressions on the memory’s building and development in Down’s Syndrome individuals. Therefore, a single group with three Down individuals was formed, aged between 9 and 12 years old, regularly enrolled in a APAE. It has been held 20 intervention meetings in order to identify and analyze, if there were changes in the subjects’s actions, from their movements, body and oral expressions throughout the intervention process. Thinking about the whole process of conducting this research, we’ve noticed that one of the consistent findings we’ve got is that, when we point out the subjects’s biological difficulties and we’ve agreed on them, we could, despite of the contradictions imposed by the social and educational reality, say that subject’s biological laws can be overcome from the social relations that one establishes in the course of his life, since the Down’s Syndrome subjects own the capacity to develop their psychic ability, even if slowly, and therefore, proceed from the interventions allowed by the physical education teacher, to propose the dance as an educational activity. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : This article presents a part of the results of a Master’s research in which the issue of children who face differentiation and inequality processes in their relationships inside school is investigated in terms of its ties to socioeconomic conditions, as well as color/race definitions. The investigation was made using the children’s own perception. The article aims to contribute to the discussion towards both the initial and continuous formation of professionals working at schools, those who should be able to observe and even question their own manners of acting and feeling while working, identifying prejudices and situations of exclusion/marginalization which they may help to produce in the school routine. The research used the ethnographic method, focusing on the children’s narratives, color/race classifications, socioeconomic surveys, field observations and interviews with the children and the teachers. The analysis of the results indicates the need of a discussion of the educational culture and its important role in the process of building identities, since it was possible to identify the daily practices that discriminate and exclude children who should supposedly find, at school, an inclusive environment able to build a positive image of themselves, as well as the African-American population and its aesthetics and culture. |
