Author : Eman A.Fahmy , Leqaa A.Moemen , Mona A.Abdel Hamid , Nervana A.Khalaf |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Retinitis Pigmentosa is a common form of hereditary retinal degeneration constituting the largest Mendelian genetic cause of blindness in the developed world. It has been widely suggested that oxidative stress possibly contributes to its pathogenesis. We measured the levels of total antioxidant capacity, thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) formation, extracellular superoxide dismutase (SOD3) activity, protein, metabolites of the nitric oxide/cyclic GMP pathway in aqueous humor or/and peripheral blood from 20 patients with retinitis pigmentosa and 15 subjects without systemic or ocular oxidative stress-related disease. Our results revealed that retinitis pigmentosa alters ocular antioxidant defence machinery and the redox status in blood. Patients with retinitis pigmentosa present low total antioxidant capacity including reduced SOD3 activity and protein concentration in aqueous humor. Patients also show reduced SOD3 activity, increased TBARS formation and increased nitric oxide &cyclic GMP pathway in peripheral blood.Together these findings confirmed the hypothesis that patients with retinitis pigmentosa present reduced ocular antioxidant status. Moreover, these patients show changes in some oxidativenitrosative markers in the peripheral blood. Further studies are needed to clarify the relationship between these peripheral markers and retinitis pigmentosa. |

Author : Balakrishna Ankalam , Rajani Manikonda |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Farming as a business is greatly influenced by the level and structure of cost of cultivation. Before green revolution farmers were practicing traditional farming methods in which they use home supplied inputs with conventional practices. The risk and uncertainty associated with cultivation does not induce the farmers to invest more on farm business. This in turn leads to low level of input use. In cultivation farmers are constrained to take up more remunerative crop enterprises. People depending on this sector are characterized by low income and higher poverty. To acquire comprehensive understanding of the problems prevailing in agriculture, a Multistage Random Sampling Method is employed. In the first step Andhra Pradesh is divided into three regions, namely Coastal Andhra, Telangana and Rayalaseema regions. The households are divided into five farming categories. The costs of cultivation among different size groups of farm households are analyzed. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Increased crop production largely on the type of fertilizers used to supplement essential nutrients for plants. Chemical fertilizers lead to increase in the growth and development in plants, but also lead to side effect on health and cause environmental pollution. The use of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) is a better alternative to solve this problem. They play an important role in sustainable agriculture. In this study, the bioactive components of Aloe vera leaves have been evaluated using GC/MS. The chemical compositions of the n-hexane extract of Aloe vera were investigated using Perkin-Elmer Gas Chromatography– Mass Spectrometry, while the mass spectra of the compounds found in the extract was matched with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) library. GC/MS analysis of n-hexane extract of Aloe vera revealed the existence of bioactive compounds. The results of this study offer a platform of using Aloe vera as herbal drug for cancer studies. |
