Abstract :The present study was conducted in Hisar district of Haryana state. The sample consisted of 160 adolescent students (80 boys and 80 girls) of 9th and 10th classes from Govt. High Schools. Emotional competence of these adolescents was assessed with the help of Emotional Competence Scale developed by Bharadwaj and Sharma (2007). The stress of the
adolescents was assessed with help of Stress Scale
developed by Lakshmi and Narain (2008). Results of the
present research study revealed that adolescents who were
below average in emotional competence experienced
greater pressure, physical stress, anxiety, frustration and
overall stress than those who were above average in
emotional competence. Regression analysis revealed that
that emotional competence is predictor of stress and there
exists negative relationship between emotional competence and stress among adolescents. The findings of the present research study have implications for adolescents, parents and teachers.
