POST- STRUCTURAL AND FEMINIST LEGAL THEORY OF LAW |
Author : Rohini |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The feminist legal studies discuss the complex role of the law
in the subordination of women and also in removing the oppression of women. Law is accepted as a place of liberation of women from exploitation as well as a precursor to social change . It is assumed that law is a place where the disadvantaged people get liberation from exploitation .Law is a means of justice which is impartial and a panacea for all legal obstacles. It is a source of social and political change. It
stabilizes society and is helpful in maintaining a just society in which exploitation has no place .It is accepted that law is an instrument of ‘social engineering’.There are some questions that need to be discussed as how can one say that law is a place of exploitation or emancipation? In which way, we should perceive the law and why? The instrumentalist vision of law should be challenged so that the subordinate identities and roles of the women could be redefined. Such redefinition of the roles and identities should not be based on protectionist approach but on equality approach. Therefore, we should adopt the post-structuralist approach .It does not deny the importance of
law but it argues that law should be reconceptualised uestioning the subordinate roles and identities of the women so as to reform it in a better way. The Feminist Legal theory has redefined the role of law within the private domain of the family and public domain of the civil society, so that the women could get equal rights within and outside the family. |

INTELLIGENCE: THEORIES AND ISSUES |
Author : Dr. Vikram P. Hiremath |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Of all the areas of Psychology, intelligence is probably the most controversial. At the same time, it is also one of the oldest areas of the discipline, dating back to the 1880s with the work of Francis Galton on individual differences in sensory functioning research that has been devoted to the topic of intelligence. The aims of this chapter are considerably more modest: a) to give a brief historical overview of the area; b) to show how developments in the field are tied to the methodologies used to study intelligence; c) to describe current
approaches to intelligence; and d) to introduce the reader
to some of the main controversies in the area. This article
will trace the developments of the construct, from
Spearmans (1904) early conceptions of intelligence as
mental energy to the much broader conceptions of modern
day theorists. The article will also deal with the wider social
context and the implications of our understanding of
intelligence for society in general. As will be seen, it is not an
easy construct to understand but it cannot be ignored because, along with personality, it is one of the most fundamental aspects of the human psyche. |

experience as it consequence, and the right action at any
moment is the one which will lead to more pleasant experiences or, as we commonly say, to greater pleasure than any other action which is possible for the agent at that particular moment. Ethical hedonism does not merely say that one of the factors which makes an action good is the pleasantness of the experiences which it brings about, for this is a view which many moralists, who are not ethical hedonists, would adopt; ethical hedonism holds strictly that no consequence of an action except pleasantness and unpleasantness, which we may call its hedonic consequences, have the slightest relevance whatever to the goodness of the action. |
