Police System And Transformation Of Criminal Tribes In The Princely State Of Pudukkottai |
Author : K.MURUGIAH |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Pudukkottai, a Princely State, was ruled by the Thondaimans. While the de jure ruler was Thondaiman, the de facto ruler was the British. As there was no organised opposition to the British , they wanted to maintain and keep peace in Pudukkottai also. But Pudukkottai presented certain sociological riddles like the highly intractable Kallar and Arimalam Korawars. They posed a veritable threat to the affluent Chettiyars. As the native Ruler and Kallars belonged to the same community, bringing the culprits under the administration of impartial Justice seemed very difficult. Taking all these factors into consideration, the British imposed their own system of Police Administration and the Thondaimans readily obliged. Before analyzing the Police Administration in Pudukkottai, it is necessary to know communities that were considered the criminal classes of this State, their status, activities, character, behaviour etc. |

Abstract :The Indian banking industry, an important tool in facilitating the development of the economy is now addressing the relevant issues to take on the multifarious challenges of globalisation. Liberalisation and deregulation of the financial sector, the greater use of financial engineering techniques and models, significant advances in information technology and most importantly the demands of customers have all resulted in greater competition in the banking industry. This increased competition makes it difficult for banks to sustain, succeed and to retain their customers. Banks have to respond to new avenues like mutual funds, foreign exchange, and security broking facilities including the sale of insurance products which could generate substantial fee income and enhance the level of customer service. |

ROLE OF TRADITIONAL FOLK MEDIA IN RURAL DEVELOPMENT |
Author : BASAPPA Y. BANGARI |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The role of communication has been very significant since the beginning of history. With the development of science and technology, the forms and way of communication have become more specialized. In a country like India, so vast and varied, modern mass media alone does not constitute the sum total of communication channels. We have T.V., newspaper, internet etc. But the millions of people in rural areas have no regular access to such mass media due to poverty and illiteracy. With 35 per cent of the population unlettered and with the media's reach largely restricted to urban areas-information, education & entertainment do not reach a large majority of the people. Our society is characterized by a complex social system with different caste, classes, creeds, and tribes. The high rate of illiteracy and poverty added to the inadequacy of the mass media to reach almost 700 million people who reside in village. To them, the mass media proved to be glamorous, impersonal and unbelievable in comparison with the familiar performance of traditional artist whom the villagers could not only see and hear but even touch emotionally. The traditional media can be used to reach these people in the process of change and development of the country |
