Author : Rupalee Jasrotia |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The 21st century is a post-racial period in America. Racism has
been practised overtly before the civil rights reforms of 1960s. In the
present times, racism is difficult to spot because it works indirectly. The
institutional structures are engrained with racial ideologies and therefore
some people enjoy more privileges, facilities and advantages than other
people. There is still great discrepancy between various facilities given to
the white Americans and the black Americans. Structural racism has been
a hurdle for African-Americans for enjoying equal access to education,
employment, medical and accommodation facilities. |

HUGHES’ HOPE FOR FUTURE |
Author : Dr. Sangita Mehta |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Hughes was a man with a hope for change and he never forgot his
roots or the importance of preserving pride in his people. He advocated a
policy of racial desegregation. Equality was an idea whose time had come.
So, when the times were right, Hughes voiced the most telling issue of his
life with great moral authority; and when they were wrong, he pointed to
better times that would surely come. He stresses the need of serious efforts
to translate the deferred dream of American ideals into a reality so that all
the marginalized and deprived sections including the African Americans get
integrated into America’s collective identity as a nation. He hopes that one
day his loneliness will definitely come to end and will wipe away every tear,
every lament and every sense of pain. Evidently, he radiated joy and humanity and this was how he was
remembered after his death. |

Author : Roni Ghosh and Bijan Sarkar |

Abstract :The term parenting is used to explain the influence of parental
behavior on child’s behavior and development. Similarly, parenting style
refers to the overall emotional climate or sum of such specific parental
practices adopted by the parents for rearing their children. The
researcher here used Baumrind and Maccoby& Martin’s four parenting
prototypes for classifying parents of the students. These are,
authoritative, authoritarian, permissive and uninvolved. It is descriptive
type quantitative research. The objectives of the study are, to find out
parents’ parenting style of the students and their socio-economic status,
to find out the differences between parental socio-economic status and gender of the students, and lastly the
association of parenting style with socio-economic status of the students’ parents. Sample has been selected
by applying purposive sampling method from Department of Education, University of Kalyani, West Bengal.
The students are studying M.Phil. and Ph.D. in the above stated university. The total number of sample is 21.
Survey method was used for collecting data by applying two self-constructed questionnaires, one for socioeconomic
status and another for parenting style. All the students are adults with age range between 25 to 40.
As the total number of sample is small, no statistical analysis was used. The result supported most of the
review findings. The results show that Authoritative Parenting Style is the dominating style among the four
parenting styles. About 86% of students accept authoritative as their parenting style and about 14% of
students consider their parents as authoritarian. No permissive and uninvolved parents are found. No gender
difference has beenfound in the parenting style. Another result shows that differences exist among male and

“AFFIRMATIVE ACTION: A QUEST FOR DESCRIPTIVE APPROACH” |
Author : Sooraj Kumar Maurya |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Affirmative action, in contemporary political philosophy, has
been the most debatable issue. Some Philosophers say that there should
not be any policy which is far from the equality before law and
Affirmative Action is a policy of preferential treatment which is done to
uplift the deprived and underrepresented class on the cost of others’
possession that is against the equality before law. While, some
Philosophers say that there should be Affirmative Action for assuring a
level playing field. It’s because there is disparity in social-economical
scenario dispersed in the society. The deprived class is far from the
favorable socio-economical scenario as the groups of main stream are
entertaining. In this paper, I will try to define Affirmative Action in regards to three major concepts of Justice
as Justice of Liberty Principle, Transactional Justice and Egalitarian Justice. The paper will conclude by
advancing my own position regarding this issue.

Author : Dr. Arun Murlidhar Jadhav |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The main object of George Orwell’s novels written during this
early phase of his life was to propagate the social problems of the day.
He criticized social evils caused by the imperialism and capitalism in
these novels. However, his experience in the Spanish Civil War changed
his outlook from capitalism to totalitarianism and this world view
made him to write the novel with political purpose. Animal Farm is
Orwell’s most popular and enduring masterpiece in which he tried to
fuse the political purpose and artistic purpose into one whole. On a
larger scale, the novel is viewed as an allegory for the rise and decline
of socialism in the Soviet Union and the emergence of the totalitarian

ROLE OF LANGUAGE VS ROLE OF SILENCE AND PAUSE IN MODERN PLAYS: WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO HAROLD PINTER’S THE BIRTHDAY PARTY AND SAMUEL BECKETT’S WAITING FOR GODOT |
Author : Niranjan Majhi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Language is one of the most important tools of communication.
It is not only an important means of communication but also a medium
of exploring ourselves. It is language through which we have been
articulating ourselves from time immemorial. Thus throughout the ages
language has played a very significant role in our day to day life.
Language has been playing the same role still now. But with the advent
of modernity or better to say after the happening of the two destructive
World Wars, it was felt as if the world was metamorphosed into a heap
of broken images. And from then, the language, somehow, begins to
lose, gradually, its pivotal role and silence and pause begin to play this
role in modern plays. This paper is an attempt to highlight that the functions of silence and pause are no less
important than the role played by language in modern plays and in order to establish this point I have chosen
two well noted plays of modern period namely-The Birthday Party (1957) by Harold Pinter (1930-2009) and
Waiting for Godot (1948) by Samuel Beckett (1906-1989). |

MEDIA REACHES THE PERIPHERY: STUDYING MEDIA HABITS OF ETHNIC SOCIETIES IN ASSAM |
Author : Dr. Jayanta Vishnu Das |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The rural as the emerging market place poses challenges to the
mass media sector. In under-developed economies the task of creating
audiences gets more complicated and challenging. Mass media is a
means which caters to a large audience with homogenous fare wherein
all audiences are presumed to have the same taste. But this creates a
tension of images and sounds, varied audience but similar choices. This
paper aims at examining the situation of a rural audience which is
bombarded with images and sounds made for an audience keeping in
mind a different society with its own set of norms and culture. How this
rural community comes to terms with such programming and their ways
of appropriating such ideas although alien to them. How the rural people chose one medium over another
and the circumstances that influence their choices, whether it be age, gender, or social status. The past two
decades has seen a huge influx of media messages reaching the extreme corners of the Indian sub-continent.
Communities which were thus far removed from receiving media messages came under the purview of mass
media. Ethnic communities started to receive messages that were inconsistent with ideas and values that
they held so dear. Thus these ethnic communities faced situations which were brought on by the advent of
new technologies and such remote societies were not untouched by them. Younger generations were the one
who adapted to mass media early and along with it other sociological changes started taking place in the
lives of these communities. |

momentous invention of human being. In the Indian sub-continent, the
history of writing goes back to the days of the Harappans, when they had
a script of their own which is not deciphered but AsokanBrahmi script
was the first deciphered script of India. After that in succeeding centuries
India had passed through many successive stages of Brahmi. In north
India Gupta Brahmi evolved into a distinct new script i.e. Siddhamatrika
or kutila script. In Eastern India Siddhamatrika gave rise to ‘‘ProtoBengali’’
script- the Eastern Indian derivatives of the Siddhamatrika. The
name ‘‘Proto-Bengali’’ was used by Al-Beruni to indicate the alphabet of Eastern India and G.Bhler
termed
it ‘Proto-Bengali’. Proto-Bengali is the transition stage between the Siddhamatrika and the modern Bengali
script and also the precursor of modern Bengali script. The ‘‘Proto-Bengali’’ script was widely used in
undivided ancient Bengal (West Bengal, in India and Bangladesh), Bihar, Orissa, Assam and also in Nepal
during the 10th to 14th centuries of the Christian Era in the official records (inscriptions, charters etc.) of the
royal dynasties of the stated region. ‘‘Proto-Bengali’’ gave rise to the modern scripts like Bengali, Assamese
and Maithili. In the history of Indian palaeography much work has been done on the Brahmi Scripts and its
derivatives in Early India up to Gupta period but in the case of East Indian derivatives of Brahmi, a number of
works has been done on Bengali script but there is no comprehensive work on ‘‘Proto-Bengali’’ script which is
considered as the original form of the Modern Bengali script according to R.D. Banerji. So, a comprehensive
study of ‘‘Proto-Bengali’’ script is desideratum. |

PHASES IN EARLY INDIAN ART HISTORIOGRAPHY: AN ANALYTICAL REVIEW |
Author : Jagannath Saha |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The paper seeks to shed light on the phase by phase progress of
study of early Indian art. According to the nature of writings, this
progress may be divided into four important phases. At the initial stage,
the Indian art was understood by the British scholars as carrying
mystery, beauty, and romance of Indians past. This phase (1800-1850
A.D) was focused on only documentation, archiving and reporting of
Indian art objects. In the second phase (1850-1900), first methodical
approach starts with James Fergusson in the mid-19th century. But this
phase was biased by British scholars they attempted to study Indian art
objects from global perspective and western idea. But some Indian scholars like Ram Raz, Rajendralala Mitra
have already started the text-based analysis of Indian art which was neglected by British scholars in this
phase. The third phase (1900-1950) is important for native perspective which is already started by
Rajendralala Mitra much earlier. This native perspective was continued by many Indian scholars. Most of
them attempted to establish Indianness or Indian origin of Indian art. They also tried to place Indian art
within the cultural context of India. This kind of native work is continued in the 4th phase of Indian art history.
This phase is a stage of great revolution with a drastic change in perspective. Indian art as the reflection of its
contemporary political, economic and social life received greater acceptance during this phase. Indian art
history has been studied factually, analytically, critically, technically, philosophically, socially and
theologically. The paper will focus on understanding and be interpreting Indian art by art historians since
early 18th century till present. |

Abstract :Kulik river of barind tract of Indo-Bangladesh has been
experienced significant channel migration and avulsion. Frequent shifting
of channel invites instability in life and livelihood pattern of the people
concerned astride. So, it is very necessary the migratory behaviour of the
channel, its zone of wandering and its consequences on land loss and
land building. This study mainly intends to find out migration behaviour
of the channel since 1951 to 2014, delineation of channel migration zone
and assessing land building and land loss in very recent times. For
capturing migration behaviour, indices like dynamic channel shifting
index, index of channel shifting asymmetry and lateral stability index
have been used. Historical channel migration zone has been identified overlying all the previous courses and
land loss and build has been detected comparing channel courses of two phases. From the analysis, it is found
that channel course is frequently migrates over time and reach specific variation does exist. Total area under
historical channel migration zone is 82.679787sq.km; average width of this zone is 1.34km. Both area and
width of the lower reaches are usually greater than upper reaches. Both land building and land loss have
been running simultaneously but net land loss is 66.46% which is of great concern to the river bank dwellers.
For safe living and safety of the properties, it is better not to implement heavy infrastructures in this region. |

A STUDY OF CENTRAL ADMINISTRATION UNDER BAHAMANI AND ADILSHAHI KINGDOM |
Author : Dr. Sanjeevkumar Tandle |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :In the immense cycles of time it is but natural to witness the rise
and fall of vast empires integrating forces build up empires while they
crumble and fall down to pieces when the disintegrating political
processes set in. permanency does not seem to be a factor in the
progress of time. The older always seem to make room for the younger
and more vigorous to be the causes what they may. History seems to be
simply a repetition of the problem of adjustment and readjustment of
countries in the political vocabulary. While there are many causes which
fall under the keen observation of clever historians for the rise and fall of
nations and empires, there may be still many more causes embedded in
the womb of time, which elude his mental grasp and which are nevertheless as strong and potent-if not
stronger as those which he is able to identify in their creation or destruction. The history of Bahamani
Kingdom is full of political adversities, invasions and wars, usurpation and dynastic changes, but still it stuck
to its noble ideals and achieved them with strenuous and steadfast efforts. Plentifully resourceful and
fabulously opulent, the kingdom had a well established government, efficient administrative institutions,
internal peace and security of life, facilities for the welfare and advancement of her subjects, agricultural
growth, prosperous trade industries, towns and cities with teaming population, freedom of religion,
amenities for education and learning(1). It is in this background the present paper makes an attempt to study
the central government under the Bahamani Kingdom. |

ENCOUNTERING A NEW SOCIAL THREAT: ISLAMOPHOBIA IN KARAN JOHAR’S BOLLYWOOD FILM MY NAME IS KHAN |
Author : Dayal Chakrabortty |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Media plays a very important role to present any kind of idea. It
is only the media which is able to popularize any idea or notion either
positively or negatively. For this so many problems arise among the
people of the whole world. The Westerners have some stereotypical
ideas about Orientals. Among so many other problems Islamophobia is a
burning problem in the whole world. For this the Muslims, more
particularly, the immigrant Muslims are not considered sometimes as
human beings. There is a kind of negative impression about the Muslims
that they all are terrorists— media has a great contribution to promote
this idea. They are deprived of religio-socio-political and civil rights.
Karan Johar in his film My Name is Khan has brilliantly portrayed this idea. This paper endeavors to make a
critical study on the burning issue of Islamophobia on the basis of the film My Name is Khan. |

IDENTIFICATION OF a2U-GLOBULIN IN MARE’S URINE BY MALDI-TOF ANALYSIS |
Author : G. Sorna Lakshmi , S. Eshwaran and S. S. Jayaraj |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Thea2u globulin is a major urinary protein (MUP), belongs to
lipocalins super family. It is synthesized in the liver and excreted
through urine. It acts as a carrier protein. It has low molecular weight
so it is easily bind with pheromonal compounds. The physiological role
of several lipocalins has been associated with the transport of
hydrophobic compounds in aqueous biological fluids. These kinds of
proteins give a protection to the pheromonal compounds when they are
released from the external environment. In the present investigation
made identification of a2u globulin in mare’s urine by MALDI-TOF
analysis. Mass spectrum of 18.5 kDa protein was obtained by MALDI-TOF and the mono isotopic number of
spectra were scored and analyzed with MASCOT search. Results of MASCOT search showed the presence of
a2u-globulin in the first hit in the search list and the score was higher than the significant level (significant
level was 51) It indicates that, the sequence search and alignment studies experimentally proved that the
acquired protein sequence of mare’s urine perfectly matched with a2u-globulin of mammalian origin. This
concept significantly proved that the identified protein was small peptide with molecular weight of 18.5 kDa. |

A STUDY OF IMPORTANT DETERMINANTS AND RISK FACTORS OF SUICIDE AMONG THE ADOLESCENTS AND THE ROLE OF PARENTS IN PREVENTING IT |
Author : Mr. Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Sanjai Prasad (18), a second year diploma student, committed
suicide in his house in Tirupur on 16th July 2018. The protesters alleged
that Prasad ended life following disciplinary action taken by a teacher.
(The Hindu). But Suicide is not a remedy for a temporary problem. Talking
globally, more than eight lakh (800000) people die every year due to
suicide, one person every 40 seconds and suicide rate has increased up to
60% from last 45 years worldwide as per the reports of WHO. It occurs at
all stages, but it is the second leading cause of death among youth in the
world. Now in country like India every hour fifteen (15) suicides took
place (NCRB-2015). When we talk about Indian adolescent suicides they are increasing at a fast rate, with 26
suicides reported every 24 hours. Even though, every religion of the world highly condemns it. Suicide means
self killing or self murder. Suicide is undoubtedly an intricate phenomenon and there is not a single
determinant rather there are several risk factors of suicide among adolescents, which involves mental,
physical, economical, social, biological etc. Symptoms/warning signs of adolescent suicides can be very easily
recognised if keenly observed, therefore suicides can be prevented. It is predicted that India will have
youngest population in 2020 with median age of 29. With this fabulous forecast, we must have the
knowledge of important determinants and risk factors of suicide among adolescents and should try to create
an environment which will be very conducive and promote positive wellbeing for them. It is everybody’s duty
to prevent suicide as our one minute help, call and talk can save somebody life who is badly hurt and needs
support and encouragement, but this course of action should start first from parents as their role is
immensely important and can’t be replaced by anyone. |

st July, 2017. GST, one of the biggest tax reforms in India is all set to
assimilate Economies of the State and boost up the overall economic
growth. GST is the only indirect tax that directly connects all the sector of
Indian economy thus enhancing the economic growth of the country by
creating a single unified market. It is single regime tax system which makes India One Nation One Tax by
subsuming both Indirect tax levied by the Central government and State government. Amalgamation of
central and state taxes will help in boosting Indian economy and enhancing its position in International

"THE SPIRITUAL STRUGGLE OF JOHN OSBORNES MARTIN LUTHER" |
Author : Dr. V. Vijay Sarthi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :John Osbornes "Luther" is based on the historical reformer, yet
the play remains characteristically Osbornes. Martin is not an Antichrist
but still he goes against the existing Christianity, the Church. What he
denounces is not sincere Christianity but insincere Christianity, and those
who are unchristian in their practice but never the less profess
Christianity, as well as those who superficially seem Christian in their
practice but whose motivations and state of mind are essentially
unchristian. If Osbornes Luther is blasphemous, he is angry at the queer
and sick world into which the Gospels introduce us. Osbornes prophetic
indignation through Martin is against those who limp on both legs : He
seems to question directly the decency of those respected statesmen in our society, who are anti —Christians
out and out in their deeds, and still call themselves Christians today and attend, Communion. In such case,
who then does Christianity negate? Osborne also opposes faith as that which modern man glibly professes
just because he goes to communion.

In the present investigation
made identification of a2u globulin in mare’s urine by MALDI-TOF
analysis. Mass spectrum of 18.5 kDa protein was obtained by MALDITOF
and the mono isotopic number of spectra were scored and analyzed with MASCOT search. Results of
MASCOT search showed the presence of a2u-globulin in the first hit in the search list and the score was
higher than the significant level (significant level was 51) It indicates that, the sequence search and alignment
studies experimentally proved that the acquired protein sequence of mare’s urine perfectly matched with a2uglobulin
of mammalian origin. This concept significantly proved that the identified protein was small peptide
with molecular weight of 18.5 kDa. |
