Author : Prof. Dr. Jadal M. M. |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The textile industry occupies a unique place in our country. It is the second largest employment generator after agriculture. The textile industry being labor-intensive, is a major contribution to the country’s economy with its vast potential for creation of employment opportunities in the agricultural and industrial sectors. Business organizations are made up of people and function through people. Textile industries are no exception to this . Hence, it is essential for every organization to adopt the human resource management practices in the administration. The economic growth of a country depends on the rate of industrialization in the country. But, industrialization may not be achieved in the absence of any one of the factors- namely- land, labor, capital and organization. Though all the four factors of production seem to be equally important, still the progress of the industry mainly depends on the production and efficiency of the labor force. So, labor is the important factor for the growth of the industry. The successful functioning of any
industry is determined by the factors like- men, material, money and market. Among all these factors, manpower assumes greater significance. Manpower is the life blood of any industry. Therefore, every effort should be taken on a priority basis to keep this factor for achieving the main objectives of the industry. This paper also analyzes the human resources management in textile industry.

Author : Alka |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Tax buoyancy measures the proportion response of tax revenue to a one percent change in the tax base, usually proxied by gross domestic product. A positive tax buoyancy coefficient indicates that tax revenues rise with the rise in tax base. It indicates the success of the system in raising the tax revenues in the situation of rising tax base and vice versa. This paper attempts to analyze the interstate tax buoyancy by using
Ordinary Least Squares method for 27 states of India with respect to their own tax revenues for the period,
2005 to 2016. The buoyancy coefficients of SOTR of all of the states are found statistically significant and noticeably high. However, the buoyancy coefficient varies from state to state. Buoyancy estimates for tax revenues of states are estimated with respect to the domestic product at state-level, called the GSDP. |

MENTAL CRUELTY UNDER HINDU MARRIAGE ACT, 1955 |
Author : Ashu Dhiman |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The sources of Hindu law are Vedas and they are of the view that marriage is an indissoluble union and it is a religious sacrament. It was not possible to separate a wife from husband. Under ancient Hindu law, it is provided that, once a couple has tied a knot of marriage then even death cannot separate them. There was no concept of divorce back then except in some of the communities. But after the change in time and society the Hindu Law also changed the concept of marriage and divorce. The urbanization of society made the
women think about their rights. The Hindu law provided for a codified Law of Divorce through Hindu Marriage act, 1955. It contains various grounds for Divorce based on theories of Divorce and also provided for some special grounds for wife. One of those grounds provided by section 13 of Hindu marriage act is Cruelty. The concept of cruelty has been changing from time to time, varies from society to society and individual to individual. What is cruelty to one may not be cruelty to another. Therefore, the Law has not provided for the clear cut definition of cruelty and it has left to the courts to decide for the same looking over the facts and circumstances of each case. This research paper is about the concept of mental cruelty under
codified Hindu law. In this paper, the types of cruelty, the circumstances which constitute the mental cruelty are discussed and many important decisions of the Supreme Court regarding the concept have been highlighted. However, the mental cruelty has not been defined by the Hindu Marriage act, but the elaborated study of the concept will help the readers to understand it. |

“UNIFORM CIVIL CODE:LEGAL ISSUES AND CHALLENGES” |
Author : Dr. Seema Mandloi |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :When in 1949 we enacted Art. 44 of the Constitution directing that “the state shall Endeavour to secure for the citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory of India”, we had already Uniform Codes of Laws covering almost every aspect of legal relationship excepting only those matters in which we were governed by the various personal laws. The laws of contract, if Transfer of Property, of Sale of Goods, Partnership, Companies and Negotiable Instruments, of civil Procedure, Arbitration and Limitation, of Crimes and Criminal Procedure and a host of other statutory laws were Uniform civil codes applying to all throughout the country. As Ambedkar observed during the debates in the constituent Assembly1 on the draft Art. 35 (subsequently enacted as Art. 44), the only province which was not covered by any uniform civil code was Marriage and succession and it was the intention of those who enacted Art. 44 as part of the Constitution to bring about that change. In fact, Art. 44 could have only the different personal laws in view, the rest of the field having mostly, if not wholly, been covered by uniform civil codes. |

HUMAN RIGHTS OF PATIENTS AND EUTHANASIA |
Author : D. H. Lokhande |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Euthanasia or Mercy Killing is the most debatable topic in all over world because it directly relates to
the death of an individual. We, in our day to day life, often see that there are several terminally ill patients
suffering from incurable decease. Such patients suffer unbearable pain. As the decease is incurable the
patients and relatives of the patients only have to wait for cruel death. In such condition patients feel that they
are burden on their relatives who are spending their time and money without any hope to cure the decease. If
such patients voluntarily wants to die then euthanasia or mercy killing should be allowed to such patients to
relieve them from unbearable pain and agony. But unfortunately our laws do not allow the patient to have
euthanasia. Medical ethics also do not allow the medical practitioners to give euthanasia to the terminally ill
patients even though they desire so. In such a situation patient is forced to live the life without dignity and
suffer unbearable pain and agony till natural death. Thus, compulsion to live life without dignity and to suffer
unbearable pain is a clear violation of human rights of patients. In order to protect the human rights of
terminally ill patients there should be legislation legalizing euthanasia in India. |

The modern writers of Indian English fiction have taken a sharp turn in presenting the happenings of social disorders in their own point of view. “THE HUNGRY STONES” – A STORY AROUND THE IMPRESSION |
Author : Apurba Saha |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Rabindranath Tagore has written a number of short stories but only four short stories on the supernatural theme. They are “Kankal”, ‘Nishithe”, “Manihara”, and “Kshudhita Pashan”. The location of the short story “The Hungry Stones” is set in a dilapidated palace by the banks of the river Susta. In “The
Hungry Stones” the readers do not come across any ghost in the course of the story. But the atmosphere becomes mysterious because of the presence and remarks of Meher Ali. He used to live in this palace once and he has turned mad because of his stay in this palace. But he is no ghost or supernatural being. So it can be said that “The Hungry Stones” is a story around the impression. An intermingling of the present self and the past self is noticed in this story. Past becomes an inseparable part of the present living self. There is an amalgamation of the dream self and the real self throughout the story. With the advent of evening the supernatural powers take a complete control over the real self. But to return to the real self from the world of the supernatural is the natural rule. The frantic cry of Meher Ali: “Stay away! Stay away! It’s a lie, all of it’s a lie” – is actually a warning.

Abstract :The market for flowers and ornamental plants, against sectors that have been pressured by the international crisis, has expanded every year. In Brazil, the areas devoted to this activity has been growing in recent years, with an average annual growth rate of 12.72%. An element of great importance for obtaining quality seedlings and plants is the substrate, and due to the scarcity of natural resources is increasing, it is
necessary to search for new alternatives to be used. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the efficiency of the mallow residue as a substrate for rooting A. ficoidea and I. coccinea L. Compacta species through vegetative propagation by cuttings. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, using cuttings of I. coccinea L. Compacta and A. ficoidea, 15 cm in length. The substrates evaluated were washed sand, coconut
fiber, mauve 1, mauve 2, Nutriplant and vermiculite. The experimental design was completely randomized with 6 treatments in plot schemes and each plot containing 15 pots with 4 replicates. The data collection took place 28 days after the implantation of the experiment, where live individuals and number of roots were quantified. For the rooting of the A. ficoidea cuttings, it was found that the substrates from the mauve residues obtained the best results. For I. coccinea L. Compact, the substrate coconut fiber with the highest number of roots was highlighted. Both species had 100% of living individuals. |

SEASONAL VARIATION OF PESTICIDES IN BIVALVE FROM WEST COAST OF MAHARASHTRA. |
Author : A. M. Shaikh |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) such as organochlorines have been of great concern due to their occurrence in high concentration even in remote ecosystems, despite bans on production and usage (Iwata et al., 1994; Guruge and Tanabe, 2001). Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) such as hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) and 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis (p-chlorophenylethane (DDT) are ubiquitous anthropogenic environmental contaminants (Willett et al., 1998; Nakata et al., 1998). They are persistent, broad-spectrum toxicants that
accumulate in the food web with high risks to the ecosystem and human health. Many of these compounds are considered to act as hazardous environmental hormones, which disrupt reproductive cycles of humans and wildlife (Colborn and Smolen, 1996). Some developing countries are still using these compounds because of their low cost and versatility in industry and agriculture for sanitation purpose (Tanabe et al., 1994).
Consequently, environmental problems associated with toxic contaminants in these countries are of great concern. It is reported that approximately three million people are poisoned and 200,000 died each year around the world from pesticide poisoning, and a majority of them belongs to the developing countries (WHO, 1990; FAO, 2000). It is also believed that in developing countries, the incidence of pesticide poisoning
may even be greater than reported due to under-reporting, lack of data and misdiagnosis (Forget, 1991). |

“ON INCREASING EMPLOYABILITY OF MANAGEMENT STUDENTS THROUGH UTILIZATION OF W. EDWARDS. DEMING’S 14 POINTS FOR MANAGEMENT” |
Author : Prof. Omkar J. Bapat |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Of late, a worrying trend has been observed in B-Schools in India, wherein the students passing out from these schools are not getting good job offers on account of them being considered ‘unemployable’. The causes are many and they stem from various sources – pedagogy, style of teaching in class, the way the institutes are managed, etc. It is possible to correct this lacunae so that the students are benefited on passing out from their institutes. This discussion study was conducted to find out how W. Edwards. Deming’s 14 points for management can be used for remedying the lacunae. Limitations: This study is majoritily theoretical in nature and may need experimental verification in real life to find out whether the 14 points can
be employed to boost, improve or increase employability. This study does not take into account the extrainstitutional factors: The will and the wishes of the management institution owners, Govt policies, Market related factors, etc. and is more or less limited to the factors that are under the control of the teachers of the institution. |

EFFECTIVE ROLE OF EDUCATION IN PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROCESS |
Author : Dr. Devendra Singh Bisht |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Education etymologically is a cluster of training, lead out, bringing up, raising, forwarding, developing and many more other effective and dynamic words. Educationists, psychologists, sociologists strongly support that mandatory dynamic need based changes are the result of education. The important component of human existence in a society is his/her personality. This is the personality by which an individual is identified during his whole life and even after the death. Education is the tool which carves and provides a definite shape to the personality. There are so many components or gradients which leads the personality to develop it into a unique
identity. The most important and influencing component among these is education. Personality is factually a potential determinant of human behaviour. People behave according to the stimulation received from the environment. According to Lewin’s theory of personality, human beings are dynamic creatures with dynamic thoughts, emotions, feelings and psychological forces. All these factors not only constitute a person’s personality but also influence his/her behaviour. It is education which develops and leads the behaviour of the individual as per his/her social needs. Education and its different tools not only provide the strong base but also provide an interactive ground in which this unit i.e. the individual of the society refine and rejuvenate its personality to become
a civilized and responsible citizen. Different school of philosophy strongly support that education effectively contribute and promote the development of different innate powers of an individual to transform them into the personal unique characterization. The components of cognitive, affective and psychomotor domain of an individual can only be refined and accelerated by means of education which in turn develops each individual into a unique personality. The education incorporates the potential of an individual to cope up with the life situations. The way in which people behave in various situations of life is certainly the result of interaction of different characteristics of
personality which are refined by the help of education. |

AT THE INTERSECTION OF SUBJECTIVITIES:A POSTFEMINIST READING OF MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM |
Author : Dr Garima Gupta |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :One of the fundamental aims of second wave feminism was to raise the consciousness of women’s identity as women, as a group sharing similar difficulties and encumbrances. It was considered important for this collective identity to transpire in order for the concept of sisterhood to materialize and for feminism to effectuate a political change. However, as feminism advanced from being solely a political movement into a cultural theory, it started questioning the concept of a steady and fixed identity. The consensus of second wave feminism was confronted from within as well as outside feminism. One of the most pertinent concepts questioned by academic postfeminism is that of identity. The present paper analyses Shakespeare’s famous comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream from the academic postfeminist perspective, highlighting Shakespeare’s portrayal of different kinds of female characters who emerge as feminists in their own unique and independent ways in accordance with the Postfeminist rejection of a generalized category of “woman”. |

Author : Manju and Dr. Rajesh Kumar Shukla |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The role of Financial literacy has gained importance in the wake of recent structural transformation such as demonetization, Pradhan mantra Jan Dhan Yojna(PMJY) for Financial inclusionand GST (Gross and Domestic Tax) in the financial sector of the country. If investors are financial literate, will be in a better position to make informed decision on financial matter. So, greater awareness about the capital market is required on the part of retail investors to evaluate the choices available to them.Capitalmarket literacy should be seen as only a way to end financial illiteracy which would be resulting in high growth of financial sector and may come out in a significant increase in retail participation.Investor education should be provided to imbibe the cultivation of a saving culture aiming at promoting greater retail investor participation in the stock market.
Financial Literacy is widely recognized as one of the most important engine of development of the financial system. Its contribution to GDP, individual and social welfare and business creation and expansion –have been amply documented. Indeed, access to formal financial institutions allows poor households to expand consumption, absorb disruptive stocks, manage risk and invest in profitable avenues. An effective strategy should be made to increase maximum participation of retail investors so that leverage the current demographic dividend in the country which includes large of youthful populationThus, financial literacy may be considered as the ultimate pillar of any financial system, as it complements the important aspects like greater transparency, policies on consumer protection and regulation of financial institutions leading to the development of stock market. |

UNDERSTANDING WOMEN EMPOWERMENT THROUGH LEGAL INITIATIVES ON DOWRY IN INDIA AND ITS SOCIAL PRACTICE: A CONTEMPORARY FIELD STUDY |
Author : Nabanita Baruah |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Women Empowerment is a situation in which gender justice is sought by availing equal legal, social, political and economic rights to woman at per man. Different laws are accordingly passed to get this situation of gender justice. One such significant law is Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 (amended later in 1984 and 1986) which made giving and taking of dowry a legal offence and punishable under the law. There are different
instances of this social practice in which both parties agreed and hence no legal actions are recorded for such acts. Such illegal social practices have actually converted women empowerment into a theoretical proverb only without its actual implementation. My paper will reflect the issues and concerns on the perception of dowry practice that are found in a micro qualitative field study which was conducted in the Munirka Village among the Jat community in New Delhi. The paper also assesses as to what extent the views of female were different from that of male’s and if social pressure works behind the practice of dowry. |

HISTORICAL REALITY AND POLITICAL HISTORY IN SALMAN RUSHDIE’S MIDNIGHT’S CHILDREN: A CRITICAL STUDY |
Author : Dr. Sharon Luther and Dr. R. Bakyaraj |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Rushdie, with a sleight of his hand, has conjured up a new trend by mixing free-flight fairy-tale with savage political indictment. He has transformed his novel Midnight’s children into a political history, giving it a comic strain. The narrator, Saleem, who suffers from amnesia and emotional numbness as a consequence of the death of his parents is, enrolled in a unit she- dog unit in place of a tracker-dog. Through the bare facts given about the political events in the novel, we get a clear indication of the depth of human degradation. This is symbolic of the bestiality of the 1971 war itself as it too had a dimension of cruelty and horror. When the war is over and the narrator finds himself in India, he finds the doings of unscrupulous politicians just as inimical to humanity as the war had been. Saleem enters this work in a moment of political reality at the precise insure of India’s arrival at independence. I tumbled into the world. Right from the beginning Saleem is conscious of his
historical ‘centrality’ and his being mysteriously handcuffed to history, his destiny being indissolubly chained to that of his country. Born at midnight on August 15, 1947, the moment of India’s independence, Saleem’s story has a representative significance, for his birth and upbringing are meant to parallel that of India. |

NEW VISTAS IN BRAND BUILDING |
Author : N. Rajendra Prasad |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Many brand managers have an assumption that an effective brand can be built by a heavy dose of advertising and when advertising fails by a series of consumer promotion programs. There has not been any realization that advertising only contributes towards increasing the memorability of the campaign for play on at the selling point. A sales promotion program, either to keep your customers and customers allows few other brands with higher novelty and higher brand promise into consideration set. So this reduces the brand saliency and this process initiates a process called brand decay. What the brand manager fails to realize is that it is the brand value that drives the customer equity and hence builds a brand for the long term. Often brand mangers take solace in blaming the advertising campaign for their mistake of not controlling brand
value erosion. Advertising only helps in building brand awareness and favorability of the association with key brand attributes and images. Academicians and practitioners have often questioned ability of the most creative advertisement in generating sales in the short run or establishing a brand in the long rum. That is the basic reason why the advertising world is not credited for building brands despite taking a large chunk of marketing expenses. At best they are credited for being the vehicle for the brand communication. If this is the case for advertising alone, then the effects of other elements of integrated brand communication are compensatory in nature. The negative perception of the brand deducts the incremental effect created by the advertising campaign. So traditional
methods of building brands need further attention for success in Indian market. Let us discuss now the market response behavior of Indian brand mangers before we look at the paradigm shifts in managing brands in Indian market. |

Author : Ajmal Perwaiz , Dr. Md. Rahmatullah and Shagufta Praween |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :several studies on water-breathing species of fish how that the toxicity of waterborne substances increases at low levels of dissolved oxygen (Southgate et al. 1933, Downing 1954, Lloyd 1961, Pickering 1968, Hicks Sand Dewitt 1971, Smith and Oseid 1972, Voyer et al. 1975, Thurston et al. 1981, Gupta et al. 983 and Verma et al. 1985). Gupta et al. (1983) and Verma et al. 1985 also showed such an effect using bimodally respiring species at 5 mg O2.L-1. These findings in respiratory physiology and behaviour suggest that in a toxic medium, by resorting to surface use (ASR or air breathing), fish can prolong their survival by reducing the rate of gill ventilation to lower the toxin uptake through the respiratory water current. |

IMAGES OF SELF AND THE OTHER: EXPLORING IDENTITY AND ALTERITY IN SCOTT MOMADAYS HOUSE MADE OF DAWN |
Author : Arya V. Unnithan |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Identity plays a crucial role in an individuals life. It is his/her identity which helps him/her exist in the society. Identity can be defined as a set of personal and behavioural characteristics that define an individual as a member of a particular group. People distinguish themselves from other groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, language and culture and thereby develop a sense of who they are. Due to an individuals affinity towards
his/her particular group or community, he/she may develop a tendency to consider another individual not belonging to his/her community as the other. The othering exists in almost all spheres of life and may even take a huge grandeur when considering issues of race, caste, ethnicity etc. This paper attempts to explore the dichotomy between identity and Alterity, in the context of the hardships faced by the Native Americans in the main stream white society, through analysing Scott Momadays novel, House Made of Dawn. Being a Native American, most of his works are centered on his Kiowa heritage. His upbringing in the Native reservations gave him first hand knowledge about the typical life of the Native American communities, their customs, rituals, and the struggles
which they had to face due to the Relocation programmes implemented by the American government. House Made of Dawn (1968) was his debut novel and it narrates from several perspectives , the dilemma of a young Native American returning to his Pueblo-Jemez community, psychological and social trauma he had to undergo and eventually embracing his Native American identity.

HUMAN RIGHTS THE CHILDREN IN DEVELOPMENT CONTEXT |
Author : Prof Dr. BP Tiwari and Dr. Abhishek Pachauri |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The concept of Human right is as old as ancient civilization Education is a fundamental human rights, every child is entitled to it. It is critical to our development as individual and as societies, and it helps lead the way to a flourishing and fruitful future. The Children are the Supreme asset of the nation.1 No civilized country can ever develop without proper health and educational development of their children; therefore, the government must divert its policies towards the development of children. The policy envisages covering all children under a
comprehensive health programme, provision of nutrition and removal of dietary deficiency, provision of non-formal education, special attention to physically challenged and mentally retarded children and equality of opportunity to
all children for their development. These measures were considered urgent because child is the most vulnerable
section of the society for he cannot assert his rights on account of physical and mental tenderness, therefore, is exposed to various forms of deprivations such as education, nutrition, health and medical care, shelter, protection against abuse and exploitation. It has been felt for a long time that children be treated humanely and conducive conditions be provided to each and every child to pave the way for his optimum growth and development. But this goal could not be achieved since the societies considered children to be the mere possession of the parents and relatives who own them and the parents and the relatives had a prerogative while dealing with the interests of the children. However, with the advent of the human rights ear after the Second World War it was assumed that all human rights apply to children but on the real plane they were dep0rived of these basic rights which were sine qua
non for fairness and justice to them. So the welfare of the children should acquire the prioritized consideration of the
society and the state, which can be achieved only when the rights of the child are addressed specifically in the human
rights instruments and constitutional documents of every nation to ensure education, nutrition, health care, safe drinking, housing recreation, parental and social care, protection from deprivations, exploitation and abuse.
