Author : GAYATRI |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : This manuscript states that sports effect positively on academic performance. Sports and academic performance in adolescence is a matter of concern for teachers, parents and researchers. The supporters of sports program in educational institutions say that participation in sports improves students' grades, academic achievement, raises their educational aspirations, and keep them in schools and colleges. Critics say that participation in sports deflects time away from the classroom and divert students' attention from study. They further say that it is not possible for students to achieve excellence and satisfaction in sports as well as in education. A continuing debate about the role of sports and academic achievement of students has sports and physical activities raise the level of alertness (mental and physical) and improve intellectual functioning of the participants (Hills, 1998) |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Achievement motivation is the desire to excel at tasks. This means that individuals with high achievement motivation tend to set goals that are neither too easy nor extremely difficult. A major characteristic of high achievement motivation is a stronger-than-average need for feedback on performance versus feedback on characteristics. The purpose of the study is to find out the level of achievement motivation among Individual and team sports players. The sample for the study consists of 150 Individual sports players and 150 team sports players are the participants in the Kerala University inter collegiate tournaments during the year 2011-2012. The age of the subjects was between 18 and 25 years. The standard psychology tool device by Dr. Kamlesh (1990) was used to measure achievement motivation. It was found the Individual sports players are having significant difference in Achievement Motivation than team sports players because the individual sports players required compulsory motivation to achieve excel in sports then the team sports players is a group effort. This type is study is useful to the physical educators, coaches and sports psychologists to enhance the performance through achievement motivation. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is one of the worst pandemics the world has ever known. The illness alters the immune system, making people much more vulnerable to infections and diseases. This susceptibility worsens as the disease progresses. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), the virus that causes AIDS, was first discovered in 1981 in a remote area of central Africa. It has since swept across the globe, infecting millions in a relatively short period of time. AIDS has killed more than 28 million people that we know of, with up to 3.6 million people dying in 2005 alone. While many cases go unreported, the prevalence of the disease is increasing. There is currently no cure for HIV/AIDS. Treatments can slow the course of the disease - some infected people can live a long and relatively healthy life. HIV can be transmitted in many ways, such as vaginal, oral sex, anal sex, blood transfusion, and contaminated hypodermic needles. A total of 100 students were selected as subjects. Random sampling technique was applied to select the subjects. Boys and Girls opted for undergraduate courses studying in B.Sc. and B.A. was acted as subjects. Age ranges from 18-21 years. From the findings of the study it has been clear that the entire Science group students percentage mean was 74.83% which shows awareness about AIDS while Arts students percentage mean awareness was 68.16%. Science students were having more awareness about AIDS in comparison to Arts students. As per the findings of the result it is clear that Girls were less aware about AIDS in comparison to Boys of undergraduate course. |
