EFFECT OF SPEED BASED TRAINING PROGRAM ON SELECTED PHYSICAL FITNESS COMPONENT OF FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND NON PLAYERS | Author : V. MANOBALA | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract : For this study, forty football players men and forty non players men were selected as subjects. They were selected from Arulmigu Palaniyandavar College of Art and Science and Arulmigu Palaniyandavar Polytechnic College, Palani. The study was formulated as a random group design. The subjects (n=80) were selected to two equal group of forty non players and forty football players each namely, specific experimental group (EMG, Group I), control group (CTG, Group II). The subjects were tested in order to find out physical fitness variables namely speed, muscular endurance, agility, flexibility. The experimental group participated in specific pre season training for period of six weeks. The data was collected before and after training for period of pre test, post test and relationship between the groups were analyzed by 'T' test. The level of significance for the study was chosen as 0.05. The experimental group after the six weeks training significant improvement in speed, muscular endurance, agility, flexibility. |
| PREDICTION OF KABADDI PLAYING ABILITY IN THE ANTHROPOMETRIC AND BIO- MOTOR CONTEXTS | Author : ASHISH KUMAR SINGH , KANNAN. A AND RADHA RAMAN SINGH | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract : The aim of this present research was to predict the kabaddi playing ability of the East Zone male Kabaddi player in the anthropometric and Bio – Motor contexts s. One hundred & thirty kabaddi players were selected through random sampling approach during the East Zone kabaddi tournament in the year 2012 and their age span was 17 to 27 years. Several measurements based on the above parameters were carried out on each individual. Height was measured through stature, weight was measured by weighing machine and leg length was measured by Lufkin Anthropometric Tape. The bio – motor abilities were measured using different testing procedure protocols. Agility was measured by 40- meter agility test; leg explosive power was measured by standing broad jump, flexibility was measured by sit and reach test, muscular endurance was measured by knee bent sit – up test, and muscular power was measured by the number of push – ups. The playing ability (dependent variable) was judged by three well qualified and experienced experts. Pearson “r” was used to determine the inter correlation among them and the regression model was used to predict the playing ability with respect to the above mentioned aspects at the 0.05 level of statistical significant. Results: 1) There were high Correlations existing between playing ability against Agility (r = 0.631), Explosive leg Power (r = 0.56), Muscular strength (r = 0.391) and Moderate correlations exist between playing ability versus Muscular endurance (r = 0. 271), leg length (r = .30), Weight (r = 0.221), Flexibility ( r = 0.19) and low Correlations exist between playing ability versus Grip Strength ( r = 0.121) and very low Correlation for height ( r = 0.087) with playing ability in kabaddi. 2) The presented Linear Regression Model equation is---- Playing ability of kabaddi = 4.032 + 2.41 (Leg Explosive power) - .453 (Agility) +.041 (Muscular strength) -.360 (Leg length). |

| A STUDY OF POSTURAL ASSESSMENT ON TRIBAL & NON-TRIBAL OF CHHATTISGARH | Author : MEJAR SINGH AND YASHWANT K. DESHMUKH | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract : Proper alignment of body and its segments is Posture. Balanced alignment provides a body appearance which when viewed from the side, is vertical rather than zigzag, the various body masses joining smoothly in symmetry. The erect position is maintained by a constant effort to overcome the force of gravity, which all the time tends to pull the body forward, but deviation from the alignment may cause various physical difficulties. Disproportion in height and weight, disturbance of physiological functions, nutritional faults and physical stresses on the growing skeleton all may affect the growth and development of a child. New York state posture rating test (1966) was used for the present study, in which all the 13 areas of the body were evaluated fewer than three profiles. The examinee stands on a line in front of screen and a plumb line is suspended just in front of the line. Total 207 subjects were selected for the present study, consisting of 107 (tribal) from various Vanvasi Ashram of C.G., 100 (non-tribal) from various schools of Raipur. For all the 13 categories scoring was distributed in three profiles which score as 5, 3 and 1. Descriptive analysis was done in computer program MS Excel. After analysis it was found that significant difference was found between the posture of tribal and non-tribal players and it was concluded that maximum number of players belonged to mark 55 to 60. However, when tribal and non-tribal were compared, non tribal showed better posture position than tribal. |

| RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANTHROPOMETRIC AND SKILL PERFORMANCE VARIABLES OF VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS | Author : S.VELKUMAR AND S.T.N.RAJESWARAN | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract : In sport, the characteristics of physical, physiological, psychological, sociological and anthropometrical are functionally associated with the performance of a player or an athlete. Considering the requirements of these characteristics in sport, each sport has its own entity since they differed from one another in nature. Meanwhile, though a particular sport has been defined in the requirements of these characteristics, within variance in spot may arise because of variations exist among the players of particular sport in terms of physical and anthropometric aspects. Anthropometry is the measurements of the body to discover it's exactly dimension and the proportions of its parts(Hardick,1939). In general, the structure of human body is explained by its height and weight(Cwten,1974, Krakower,1935)). But in sport, players with same height and weight may not be similar in the efficiency of execution of movement and sustainable capacity since the segments of body part are varied in terms of its length, width, and circumference. |
