GOAL SETTING FOR COACHES AND SPORTSMEN |
Author : K.Srikanth |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : As the knowledge base of sport continues to expand and mature through both experience and the application of contemporary sports science, so the expectation of athletes continues to grow. This situation can be clearly argued to support the adoption of a long-term athlete development approach whereby realistic and attainable goals are set over a long period in the order of years in line with the athlete's physical and mental ability to develop and adapt. The upshot of this and, in particular the impact on the coach to the athlete, is that he/she might want to ensure that they adopt an approach based on long-term coach development. In this modern climate of continuous development of the knowledge base it is entirely likely that a coach who disregards the long-term coach development principle may never see their athlete achieve their true potential. Worse still (for the coach), in an environment where athletes are becoming increasingly knowledgeable about their own events, the athlete may vote with their feet and look for a coach who can continue to move them forward toward their dreams and beyond. Coaches, who can remain open-minded, are prepared to embrace new ideas and who regularly allocate time to keep up with fact-based findings and developments are more likely to enjoy the long-term continuous development of their athletes and share in their successes. This regular feature sets out to provide a valuable resource to every coach by providing a brief review of some of the findings currently being made around the world by sports scientists and medical professionals and which are generally supported by published scientific studies. |

Fifty college students (boys) whose age range between 22 to 27 years were randomly assigned to training from Bped College. Short term memory, long term memory, tactile sense and visual perception were measured for this study. Short term and long term memory scale, Aesthesiometer and Muller lyer illusion tests were used for this study. The training sessions performed five days a week and training classes were divided into two sessions, one was in the morning and the other in the evening with the duration of one thirty five minutes each session. Paired t' test was applied to investigate the existence of significant difference between pre and post test phases of the effect of twelve weeks exercise programme. In conclusion improvement was found after twelve weeks training programme in case of short term memory, long term memory and tactile sense but in case of visual perception no significant improvement was observed. Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship of anthropometric and physiological variables to Kabaddi playing ability. To achieve the objectives of the study four anthropometric and four physiological variables were selected as independent variables and playing ability as dependent variable, which was assessed through subjective rating by three experts during the tournaments. Forty men Kabaddi players took part in the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University InterCollegiate Kabaddi tournaments in the 2013-2014 sessions were selected as subjects. Pearson's product moment correlation (Zero order) was used as a statistical tool to find out the result of the study and significant level was fixed at 0.05. The result of the study reveals that the selected anthropometric variables of height, weight, arm length and leg length and the physiological variables of resting heart rate, breath holding time, and vital capacity were significant relationship with Kababdi playing ability and only respiratory rate was not significant relationship with Kabaddi playing ability. |

Author : Parveen Dhayal |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Purpose – The purpose of the study was to observe the fiction and non-fiction of the exercise addiction. Objective - The objective of the study was to observe the fiction and non-fiction of the exercise addiction. Brief - In our society, exercise is increasingly being sought, less for the pursuit of fitness or pleasure and more for the means to a thinner body or sense of control and accomplishment. In the climate of thinness mania, female exercisers are particularly vulnerable to problems arising when restriction of food intake is combined with intense physical activity. A female who loses too much body fat will stop menstruating and ovulating and will become increasingly susceptible to stress fractures and osteoporosis. Yet, similar to individuals with eating disorders, those with an activity disorder are not deterred from their behaviours by medical complications and consequences. People who continue to over exercise in spite of medical and/or other consequences feel as if they can't stop and that participating in their activity is no longer an option. These people have been referred to as obligatory or compulsive exercisers because they seem unable to "not exercise," even when injured, exhausted or begged by others to stop. The terms pathogenic exercise and exercise addiction have also been used when describing these individuals who are consumed by the need for physical activity to the exclusion of everything else and to the point of damage or danger to their lives |

IMPACT OF EATING PATTERN ON HEALTH STATUS OF HUMAN BEING |
Author : Parmod Kumar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : All humans eat to survive. They also eat to express appreciation, for a sense of belonging, as part of family customs, and for self-realization. For example, someone 1 who is not hungry may eat a piece of cake that has been baked in his or her honour. People eat according to learned behaviours regarding etiquette, meal and snack patterns, acceptable foods, food combinations, and portion sizes. Etiquette refers to acceptable behaviours. For example, for some groups it is acceptable to lick one's fingers while eating, while for other groups this is rude behaviour. Etiquette and eating rituals also vary depending on whether the meal is formal, informal, or special (such as a 1 meal on a birthday or religious holiday). A meal is usually defined as the consumption of two or more foods in a structured setting at a set time. Snacks consist of a small amount of food or beverage eaten between meals. A common eating pattern is three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) per day, with snacks between meals. The components of a meal vary across cultures, but generally include grains, such as rice or noodles; meat or a meat substitute, such as fish, beans, or tofu; and accompaniments, such as vegetables. Various food guides provide suggestions on foods to eat, portion sizes, and daily intake. However, personal preferences, habits, family customs, and social setting largely determine what a 1 person consumes. |
