Abstract :The present time is the era of internet and digital. In this era use of online information resources is growing rapidly. It is generally agreed by producers and purchasers of information that the use of these resources should be measured in a more consistent way. Librarians want to understand better how the information they buy from a variety of sources is being used; publishers want to know how the information products they disseminate are being accessed. An essential requirement to meet these objectives is an agreed international set of standards and protocols governing the recording and exchange of online usage data. The COUNTER codes of practice provide these standards and protocols which are used for recording and reporting of online usage statistics of networked electronic resources. Resources may be online journals, databases, multimedia contents, online books and reference works. |

Abstract :The world is passing through a revolution in the growth of information and its dissemination. The number of titles being published the world over has been increasing rapidly.So that hardly possible for any individual library to buy every book and journals and meet varied demands of the user community. The Indian information professionals, education specialists and scientists have realized that the time has come to share the information resources and to coordinate mechanisms.The present study briefly highlights some of the major library networks in India.This can help the user to get their information easily. In the resource sharing the user can get the benefit of their libraries as well as other library also. A large number of library resource sharing networks like the Metropolitan Area Networks such as DELNET in Delhi, MALIBNET in Madras, CALIBNET in Calcutta HYLIBNET in Hyderabad, BONET in Bombay, PUNENET in Pune, ADNET in Ahmadabad, and countrywide ones like INFLIBNET (Universities and Research Institutions), ERNET (Educational and Research Institutions), and DESINET (Defense Laboratories), and sectorial ones like BTISNET (Biotechnology Networks) etc.The chapter includes major library networks, viz. Abstract :The study is based on 8,182 citations appended to 50 doctoral theses in Physics, submitted to the North Bengal University, Darjeeling, during 1987 to 2007. It is observed that most of the publications cited are articles in journals; the number of references to other kinds of documents such as books/ monographs, patents, conference proceedings, reports, and other theses is small; and references like official publications, press articles and Internet documents are rare. Among the citations from journal literature, majority are from foreign journals though the journals of Indian origin have also extensively used by the North Bengal University Physics researchers. Journals published in USA, India, Netherland and UK occupies premier positions while journals from other countries are also cited. The most frequently cited journal titles were the The Physics Letter, Physics Review A, Mol. Cryst. Liq. Crystal. The findings from this study could serve as a collection development, a model that libraries could use to identify the primary sources, budget planning, to guide collection maintenance and user services design in libraries. |

Abstract :Though some reports suggest that in-service training of library personnel started first time in India in the beginning of 20th century, yet the LIS education as university course started quite late as compared to other disciplines in undivided India. Geographically distribution of LIS education centres in India presents an interesting feature. Calcutta, Baroda and Lahore (in undivided India) set the motion and then Andhra and others followed. 1940s and 1950s have been the turning point so far the progress of LIS education is concerned. Spread of LIS education has been so that during last one century more than 100 universities have been imparting LIS education with quite a few colleges offering LIS education too. The preset study makes an Endeavour to trace the chronology of development of and chorology of distribution of LIS education in India. |
