Abstract :RFID (Radio Frequency Identification), the quintessential pervasive computing technology, has been around us for many years and used by various organizations including library and information centers. RFID started replacing the traditional barcodes as its wireless identification capabilities promise to revolutionize the inventory control task. RFID based automatic checkout systems might tally up and pay the bills from supermarkets to library and information centers. RFID offers a numbers of advantages including inventory efficiency, security to library collections and minimal vulnerability to damage. However, RFID is not free from problems and it has a number of shortcomings including various threat. This paper attempts to report the emerging challenges associated with RFID technology as it will be very much useful for the LIS professionals who are planning to introduce RFID in their library and information centers to take precautions measures. |

Abstract :This paper aims to provide an overview of the contents and design of the online English newspapers in India. Twelve online English newspapers published daily in India were selected for the study. The study used website content analysis to assess the contents and design of these newspapers. A checklist was developed as the main tool for data collection and Microsoft Word was used as the tool for data analysis. The study shows that online English newspapers in India have a common pattern of contents, coverage, and design. Contents availability and access to the contents are the most prevalent options in these newspapers. Majority of the newspapers use Blog, RSS and Facebook to connect with their readers. The ranking of major online English newspapers in India. Also have been done and “The Times of India” is on the 1st rank among all Selected newspapers for study. |

Abstract :Present paper explains the role of digital information services in newspaper libraries. The introduction to digital information has added a new dimension to information technology, which gave birth to new concept of digital information services. Corporate libraries have different users with different requirements. The methodology used for this paper is a literature survey and observation. It discusses how the effective and efficient use of new technologies helps us to improve the library's image. Digital information services provide a wide array of services to assist members of the library with organising material or making them more widely available. Today the trend is quickly shifting towards computerization. Library whether big or small tries in to provide better or more accurate services to its end users at minimum cost and time. |

Abstract :This paper discusses the present status of agriculture libraries in India and suggests measure for their upliftment by sharing library resources through networking and consortia. It also aims at evaluating parameters such as coordination and implementation of standards for computerization, networking and sharing through adoption of advanced technology among Indian Agricultural Libraries and role of Agriculture Library association in development of agriculture libraries. Agriculture sector has been the backbone of the India as it is the main source of economy for a large number of people residing in rural areas. It contributes to nearly 25% of gross domestic product and about 70% of population is dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an apex body established in 1929 which plans, conducts and promotes research, education, training and transfer of technology for advancement of agriculture in India. Research setup of ICAR includes 45 central institutes, 6 National Bureaux, 17 National research centers, 6 Deemed universities and 27 state Agriculture universities (SAU's) and 25 directorates/project directorates) and one Central Agriculture University in India, providing education, research and extension facilities for development of agriculture in India. When library consortiums are formed the existing environment about users preference and difficulties need to be studied, such studies would enable to incorporate the findings as the major input in consortium. |

Abstract :Many attempts have been made to define the term bibliometrics and its analogous terms since the use of the term 'statistical bibliography' in 1923 by Hulme1. According to him, "the purpose of statistical bibliography is to 'shed light on the process of written communication and of the nature and course of development of a discipline (in so far as this is displayed through written communication), by means of counting and analysis its various facets of written communication. "Raising2 in 1962 defined it as "The assembling and interpretation of statistics relating to books and periodicals to demonstrate historical movements, to determine national and universal research, use of books and journal and to ascertain in many local situation the general use of books and journals." It is regarded as one of the classical definitions of Bibliometrics. |
