THE MANAGEMENT OF E-BOOKS IN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES AND ITS CHALLENGES |
Author : Chauhan Hiteshkumar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : E-books are commonly perceived as offering great potential for learner support but also as struggling to compete with print due to poor on-screen presentation, restrictive licencing and limited range of titles offered. The experience of a group of Irish university libraries shows that, with the right combination of product and subjects, e-books can thrive among students and faculty, while librarians can create more dynamic, relevant and flexible collections than for print. Subscription management is demanding for libraries, however, and licencing issues remain highly problematic, representing a formidable obstacle to full exploitation |

Author : D.Chinnadurai |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : The purpose of any library is to be satisfied to all users needs. Users only can evaluate service and quality of the library. But it is difficult to satisfy completely every user needs. To evaluate "users satisfaction” and to develop the "quality" of the library, it is required to bring a new innovation. To develop the library and its service and to provide maximum users' satisfaction, it is necessary to implement Six Sigma in Libraries. This paper helps to apply scientific and systematic upgrading strategy to have a better service to meet the needs of the users. Six Sigma is typically used by large enterprises to eliminate waste, reduce redundancies and ensure quality. But we're applying the same guiding principles to Library to, improve processes and increase both employee and users satisfaction. In such a way this study aims to implement Six Sigma to provide better service and full satisfaction to the library users. |

DIGITAL LIBRARY SOFTWARE DSPACE AND GREENSTONE3: A STUDY OF FEATURES AND COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS |
Author : Devendra B. Pate,Pravin I. Patel,Haresh A.Patel,Bipin A. Patel |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract : Greenstone and DSpace are both designed to help third parties set up their own digital libraries. However, they represent rather different perspectives and have different, and in many ways complementary, goals and strengths. One goal they share is to be flexible, and both can be customized and modified at many different levels – including the programming level, since they are open source systems. This gives the ultimate flexibility and yields significant advantages over closedsource systems. Of course, this very flexibility makes fair comparison tricky. This article has compared and contrasted the two systems' goals in terms of the core business that they aim to support, and compared their features in terms of their natural domain of operation. A crude caricature of the difference is that Greenstone supports individually designed collections of different kinds of documents and metadata in an international setting – epitomized by completely static collections on CD-ROM or DVD – whereas DSpace supports institutions in their struggle to capture and disseminate the intellectual output of an institution and preserve it indefinitely – epitomized by its use by MIT Libraries, who helped pioneer its development. However, each system is highly flexible and customizable to meet a wide variety of needs. |
