The library environment is currently undergoing a rapid and dynamic revolution leading to new generation of libraries with the emphasis on e-resources. A lot of efforts have been takenin past few years to overcome this problem of financial crunch by resource sharing through consortia for university libraries. UGC-INFONET and INDEST-AICTE Consortium are two major initiatives for university library users. Abstract : The advancement in information technology and its application to scholarly communication has changed the reading habits of all stake holders concerned. E- Journals and e- books are most popular types of e-resources used by academic and R&D workers all over the world. The Mysore University Library provides access to thousands of e-journals and few important bibliographic databases as a member of UGC-Infonet Consortia and also few titles through its own subscription. About 18,000 E-books from well-known publishers like Springer, Wiley, CRC Press and Taylor and Francis have been made available for the benefit of patrons. Abstract : Library is the nucleus of every educational institution. Every academic library should have the adequate print as well as digital collections to meet the thrust of the users. This study is based on use of library resources by the Students at Assam University, Silchar. The study has been conducted through questionnaire-based survey. The primary data was collected through questionnaire which was circulated randomly among 140 respondents. On the basis of filled up questionnaires the data has been analyzed and inferences were drawn based on standard statistical techniques. The study reveals that guidance in the use of library resources and services is necessary to help students to meet their requirements. It has been found that journals, text-books, and lecture notes are the most popular sources of information for the students course work. This paper also throws light on the problems and difficulties being faced by the students while seeking information. The author also provides some suggestions for better utilization of library resources available in Assam University Library. |

Abstract : Websites are an important and efficient means of communication for research Institutions wishing to interact with their users. Present study has focused on evaluating how websites are structured to ensure their usability and usefulness. General information about library, effectiveness of the homepage, content presentation, type of navigation used, type of user assistance made available, search facility provided and value additions included on the websites are the parameters on which evaluation is carried out. Study has resulted in few major observations. First impression of the homepage is critical for successful user satisfaction and it makes user to revisit the website. Despite of its essence it has not been achieved widely. Similarly, Study revealed that there are few more areas where improvements are required. Use of graphics and multimedia for effective content presentation, virtual help to users, facility to search within the website and WWW and provision for OPAC on library websites are to name few. |

Abstract : Education must reach out to every to every citizen throughout his life. The challenge of the day is to stay updated and to keep the nation updated. While the formal education sector faces the challenges of quality and quantity. The needs have been changing with increasing globalization and commercialization. Satellite can establish the connectivity between urban educational institutions with adequate infrastructure imparting quality education and the large number of rural and semiurban educational institutions that lack the necessary infrastructure. Besides supporting formal education, a satellite system can facilitate the dissemination of knowledge to the rural and remote population. Thus in spite of limited trained and skilled teachers, the aspirations of the growing student population at all levels can be met through the concept of tele-education. Therefore, there was a growing demand for an interactive satellite based distance education system for the country. The present paper discusses about the story of EDUSAT launched by ISRO. |

Abstract : The term 'Online resource' is a broader term. It may be content from a website, blog, wiki, discussion form, discussion group, online journal etc. In the era of information technology, online resources are one of the main tools for dissemination of information to the academicians. This study focuses on finding the use of online resources by the engineering faculties of Mysore. The study was conducted through a questionnaire based survey. Questionnaires were distributed to 160 engineering faculty selected from 5 departments of 8 different Engineering colleges of Mysore. 138 completed questionnaires in all respects were received. The aim of the study was to obtain the feed back of faculty members, on frequency of use of online resources, purposes of use of online resources. It was found that, 81.26% used for teaching material, 62.32% for finding relevant information in the area of specialization, 49.28% for research work and 31.88% for publishing articles/papers. Types of use of online resources were found to be, e-journals (78.99%), e-books (52.90%), e-reference (46.38%) and e-thesis/report (32.61%). Importance of online resources and impact of online resources on their academic activities along with advantages of online resources and present the by departmental wise is highlighted. The problems faced by the faculty members and suggestion for improvements of online resource usage have also been presented. |

Abstract : Webometrics is a new concept in Library and Information Science in the order of Librametry, Bibliometrics, Scientometrics, Informetrics, and Cybermetrics. This study enlist with 13 Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) in India and their links which subsidize Number of Web pages (NWP), Link Web Pages (LWP), Self-link Web Pages (SLWP), External Link Web Pages (ELWP) and Inlink Web Pages (ILWP) have been retrieved by specific commands in Google search engine. The Web Impact Factor of 13 institutes has been calculated by proportion to each web page with Number of Web pages and rank has assigned to each institute. The Number of Web Page has been taken as base due to its importance and Regression Analysis has been done on it. The result shows that Self-link Web Pages' contribution is more to the Number of Web Page of IIMs in India. |

Literature on consortia is mostly reported in four sources. Highlights the formation of the International Association of Library Consortia in 1997. The current trend is one of sharing integrated library systems and computer databases, collection development, purchasing of electronic journals, and staff development. What has been achieved is the provision of resources to patrons that did not have them before the consortia, as well as increased levels of services and convenience of patrons. |

Abstract : This study investigated the medical-based sources and resources available on the web. It presented a brief description of some medical resources and sources including databases and guides available on the Internet for medical research. The findings of the study revealed that the web has a variety of information resources for medical research in large quantity while also affirming the cost saving and ease of access attribute of these resources. Problem of infrastructure and lack of adequate search skills on the part of the of the researcher were among the major factors identified as major constraint to effective search and retrieval of medical resources from the web. |

Abstract : The Visvesvaraya Technological University is having presently 198 colleges are affiliated in Karnataka; these large numbers of college were distributed in four regions, namely Bangalore region, Mysore region, Belgaum region and Gulbarga region for smooth administrative purpose. For this paper we have selected Gulbarga and Belgaum regions 34 engineering college libraries to explore the satisfaction level of software usage, and to find out their problems and suggestions. This study carries detailed enquiry into the experiences undergone by the engineering college libraries in the use of Integrated Library Software (ILS). It gives a status view of the software packages used by different libraries and opinions of the librarians about the performance of the software they have used and also opinions of users regarding computer based services provided by these college libraries. The data collected were analyzed qualitatively, and conclusions were drawn along with recommendations. The research is limited to automated libraries of Gulbarga and Belgaum region and focuses on the comparison of software and determining the opinion of librarians. |

Abstract : The purpose of this paper is to find out the motivation level among the library supporting staff engaged in universities of Jammu & Kashmir (India). This article investigates the perceptions of assistant librarians/library assistants/semi-professional assistants/professional assistants and other professionals (n=120) employed in central/departmental/divisional/faculty/school libraries of state universities regarding the motivation level. Respondents are emphasized as they are the determining factors for motivation level. The data is collected through questionnaire mode and convenience sampling methodology is used to draw the subjective sample. It has been found that motivation is the cognitive entity and library staff members have been motivated either with monetary or non-monetary motivation. Finally, researcher opined from the present paper that there is significant difference in the motivation levels of highly qualified staff members as compared to less qualified staff members. |
