Abstract : In this paper an attempt has been made to analyse the livelihood patterns and identify the main factors which make livelihood sustainable in two selected villages of Murshidabad district of West Bengal. Sustainable Livelihoods are derived from people's capacity to make a living by surviving shocks and stresses and to improve their material condition without jeopardizing other's livelihood option either now or in the future. This requires reliance on both capabilities and assets for a means of living. |

Abstract : Markets centers perform the functions of service centers. They help in increasing social contacts, serve as centers of diffusion and become focus for political and other activities, in spite of the fact that market centers have predominately economic importance. Periodic markets in rural areas perform divers socio-economic functions towards the integration of peasant economies into regional and national socio-economic system. The market functions are not uniformly distributed over the different level of market centers, each market centers possess its own functions. The importance of the market centre reflects the number of quality of functions it performs for a region. In the present paper an attempt has been made to study the functions of rural market and how the market functionaries play their vital role. |
