Abstract : Half of all the cancer patients worldwide are treated with some type of radiation therapy. This mode of treatment involves complex technology that has become more sophisticated with the evolution of computer technology giving us CT Scans and the Treatment Planning System (TPS). The TPS combined with CT Scans gives the user the ability to provide the desired dose of radiation to the target volume while minimizing exposure to normal tissue and/or organs at risk (OAR).
Commissioning small very fields in any (TPS) is a challenge. The main issue is the measuring devices: some will be very well fitted for large fields but not for small, some will be great for small fields but not for large ones. We had to find the best arrangement for output factors and for scans.
This study making an attempt to present optimal procedures to collect small fields beam data for commissioning in (TPS) and to provide a protocol to collect output factors for very small field sizes: 0.5 cm x 0.5 cm to 4.0 cm x 4.0 cm. |
