Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Introduction: Hypertension is a major health hazard which at a later stage might lead onto various cardiovascular complications. Prehypertension is a precursor of Stage-I hypertension. Thus, the present study was done to assess the sympathetic activity in normotensive, prehypertensive and hypertensive individuals.
Aims and Objectives: To compare the differences in sympathetic activity in normotensive, prehypertensive and hypertensive individuals.
Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 30 normotensive, 30 prehypertensive and 30 hypertensive subjects. Autonomic function tests were recorded using the instrument Physiopac-PP4, Medicaid system, Chandigarh. The following sympathetic function tests were performed: 1. Blood pressure response to standing, 2. Cold pressor test, 3. Isometric handgrip test.
Results: Our findings on hypertensives showed that there is sympathetic dysfunction and on prehypertensives showed that there is sympathetic overactivity.
Conclusion: Autonomic function tests can be used as a routine screening test to predict the future risk of hypertension at an earlier stage and also for a better prognosis during treatment. |

Abstract :Introduction: The objective of the study was to observe the morphometric variations in the anatomy of human left and right medial menisci. The relevant data for medial meniscus anatomical variation is rather unexplored thus emphasizing the importance of the study.
Materials and Methods: Dissection of 30 adult knees was performed. The menisci were compared for weight, inner and outer circumference along with width of the menisci.
Conclusion: Although the menisci may show subtle anatomic variations in their morphology within the same species, the left and right side medial meniscus in the same individual are morphologically equivalent. |

Anatomical study of size variability of temporal and occipital horns of lateral ventricles of human brain: MRI study |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Introduction and Aims: The lateral ventricles lies in each cerebral hemisphere with its three horns and body. The study of normal and variant anatomy of ventricles of brain is very useful for clinicians and neurosurgeons in their routine practice. This study is directed to look for the changes in size of occipital and temporal horn of lateral ventricle as per age and sex of brain by MRI study.
Materials and Methods: MRI scan of 55 patients (25 females and 30 males) with age ranging from 1yr to 90 years were studied and the diameter of occipital and temporal horns were measured. Data was analyzed with respect to age and sex of individuals.
Results: It was observed that mean diameter of both horns decreases from1yr to 10yr age group and increases from then to advancing age. No significant gender difference in dimensions of both the horns of lateral ventricle was observed.
Conclusion: The present study showed that the age factor is responsible for change in the size of occipital and temporal horns of lateral ventricle. The present study will be helpful to radiologist and neurosurgeons to differentiate the enlarged size of occipital and temporal horns by aging from that of other pathological conditions. |
