One day, while I was strolling along the streets of Nantes with my wife and daughter, I became intrigued by a memorial stone located on a staircase of 9, rue Boileau. A few days later, I came back with a pen to write down the text engraved on it. “Here was Pierre Audigé’s dental offi ce, a member of the Resistance movement, leader of the “Mouvement Libération-Nord” (a movement created to defend the North of France against the Nazi occupation) of Nantes and the “Basse Loire” region, then leader of the CohorsAsturies network. Appointed in 1942 by Jean Cavaillès, founder of these organizations, he was arrested, tortured by the Gestapo and died in the Nazi slammers in June 1944. He died for France.”

A modest childhood…brilliant studies Georges Paulin was born in Paris in 1902 [1]. From a humble background, he was a gifted child who soon got bored in school. Very early, he showed outstanding drawing skills. In 1918, his mother was killed during the bombings of the capital. He would never fully get over it. At the age of 14, he became a dental technician and was soon recognized for his talents. He opened his own business and went back to school to become a dental surgeon. Following in his brother’s footsteps, he graduated from Garancière. This professional activity only helped him to finance his passion. A beneficial rain “It was in 1927 that his research began. He was leaning against the window of his dental prosthesis laboratory in Nice when a violent and stormy shower fell on the city. On the opposite pavement stood a magnificent Delage convertible and in spite of all his efforts, its owner could not close the hood before the leather and velvet interior had been flooded. For Georges Paulin, it suddenly clicked.” [2].

Ben Salomon was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 1, 1914. He graduated from the Dental College of University of South Carolina in 1937 and soon began a dental practice. When the United States entered the war, his patriotic instinct led him to enroll in the army in 1940. After basic training, he joined the 102nd Infantry Regiment and quickly proved to be a natural soldier with weapons and a leader. Within a year, he had risen to the rank of sergeant and was in charge of a machine gun section. In 1942, Salomon was to become an officer in the Dental Corps. He first tried to remain in the infantry, and his commanding officer requested that he be promoted to second lieutenant of infantry: a request which was first denied. It is finally in Hawaii that he was commissioned a first lieutenant on 14 August 1942. After several months working in a hospital, Lieutenant Salomon was assigned in May 1943 as the regimental dental officer of the 105th Infantry Regiment, which was part of the 27th Infantry Division. Even though he had not practiced dentistry for two years, Lieutenant Salomon was quickly recognized as an excellent dentist by his patients and his fellow dentists.

Background: In this present era implant dentistry has seen exponential growth and its success mainly depends upon a proper treatment planning and its execution. Radiographic imaging has a pivotal role in the planning of implant placement and follow up of implant survival. The Context and Purpose of the Study: To study the radiographic prescription trends for dental implants among Palestinian dental practitioners. A sample of 150 dentists chosen at random in a dental conference received a questionnaire. Results: 114 dentists returned full questionnaires. It was observed that the majority of the surveyed dentists prescribe panoramic radiographs for dental implant assessment based on its availability. The motivating factors for prescribing the specifi c radiologic examination was Availability (42.99%), availability + cost(17.53%), Cost + Measurement precision(3.51%), Cost + Radiation Dose(10.53%), Measurement precision(25.44%). Conclusions: The majority of surveyed dentists prescribe panoramic radiographs for dental implant assessment based on its availability and only a small number strictly adhered to the recommended guidelines of the international associations with regards to cross sectional imaging.

After it has invaded Poland, Germany will have to carry on paying the bills for Hitler’s expansion projects. Thus, thousands of men will die on the battle fields. Many more will come back crippled. A lot of men abuse their power over the civilian populations of the occupied territories. Throughout these battles, true personalities got revealed and, although one might think that true courage would have been to resist and fight against the Nazi government, some of men have distinguished themselves on the battle fields. Dentists were no exception. The following story deals with one of them.
