A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF MOBILE PHONE DEPENDENCE AMONG ADOLESCENTS. | Author : Jagraj Singh | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :With the advancement of modern technology particular in mobile phone technology it is wonder that a mobile phone and their popularity are on the rise. It is perhaps because of their ease of use and their ability to facilitate other application. Despite its usefulness, excessive use of this device has various negative impacts. A person suffering from such phenomenon is referred as mobile phone dependence. Therefore, the study titled “A descriptive study to assess the level of mobile phone dependence among adolescents in Shivalik Science Senior Secondary School Kharuni, Nalagarh, District Solan, Himachal Pradesh.” was undertaken. A quantitative research approach and descriptive research design were used and the research setting was in the selected school (Shivalik Science Senior Secondary School Kharuni, Nalagarh, District Solan, Himachal Pradesh). Total 100 adolescents were selected with convenient sampling technique. Written consent was taken from the adolescents who were selected as Subjects. Modified mobile phone dependence rating scale containing 16 questions was used to evaluate the level of mobile phone dependence among adolescents. Results depicted that mean level score of adolescents residing in selected school was 16.47±8.85 and 62% adolescents had a moderate level of mobile phone dependence. Hence it was inferred that adolescents had a moderate level of mobile phone dependence. |

Stress is a pattern of specific and non-specific response that creates disturbance in equilibrium between the person and its environment. A quantitative research approach and comparative research design were used in the study. 40 hostlers and 40-day scholars of Lord Mahavira Nursing College Nalagarh were selected with simple random sampling technique. Written consent was taken from the students. The modified perception stress scale with 24 questions was used to assess the level of stress regarding study among hostlers and day scholars. The result depicts that 36(90%) hostler students had a moderate level of stress and 38(95%) day scholar students had a moderate level of stress and the mean stress score regarding study among hostlers was 73.25±9.35 and mean stress score among day scholars was 68.35±6.38. This difference in the mean score was statistically significant at p<0.01 level. Hence it was inferred that the hostlers had more stress regarding the study. |

The design of the study was non-experimental research design based on descriptive approach. A sample of 60 adolescent girls was selected for the study in Government Senior Secondary School Nalagarh District Solan Himachal Pradesh. The tool used for the study was structured knowledge questionnaires. Questionnaire was distributed to the adolescent girls to fill. Proper explanation was given. Method of data collection was multiple choice questionnaires. The data was collected on the first week of March 2017. The written consent was obtained from Principal of the school. A total of 60 adolescent girls participated in the study. The data was analysed by using descriptive statistics. |

There has been a rapid increase in trade and use of smokeless tobacco products in recent years in the country, which is a matter of serious concern to the health planners. Adolescents are easily influenced by television, cinema, and advertisement and also by their peer. Adolescent are the age of experimentation, adventure and exploration, also known to be vulnerable to variety of changing behaviour such as addicted to substance abuse, premarital sexual activity and antisocial behaviour. Now a day the habit of consuming tobacco use is spreading like infection communicable diseases among the adolescents. Quantitative approach and descriptive research design with purposive sampling technique was used among the adolescents (11-17) years in selected area of Kurali. The data was collected through structured questionnaire and interview schedule on 200 adolescents. The written consent was taken from the adolescents who were selected as subjects in the study. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed to analyse the data. The findings revealed that there is co-relation between the knowledge and socio-demographic variable the mean score level for adolescents who ever consumed 8.09±1.58. Out of 200 subjects 62%of adolescents consume tobacco Majority of the sample consumed in friend circle the substance mostly was consumed was Gutka. And there is no co-relation between the knowledge and practices among the subjects. About 64% of the Adolescents have adequate knowledge regarding the effects of tobacco chewing. The common types of tobacco used were Gul, Guttka, and Pan-Zarda. Based on the experience of the study tobacco consumption is a condition that needs to be treated and stop the adolescence from taking tobacco and need to be diverted toward positive life style where they can lead to a purpose full life. |
