La variation en contexte urbain : Quelles formes et quelles dynamiques ? |
Author : Noudjoud BERGHOUT |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :We are interested in linguistic variation as it manifests itself in the discourse of Batanes speakers in urban areas. More specifically, we are interested in the discourse that marks the variation produced by our informants. We are interested in the relationship between variation and the spatial representations of speakers. How is variation achieved when moving from one neighbourhood to another? And what relationship do our informants establish between variation and space?

Author : Hadjer MERBOUH |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :This paper is part of the field of urban sociolinguistics. It deals with the question of the divisions of the city of Sidi-Bel-Abbès into "faubourgs" and "villages". Our objective is first to examine the factors that determine the use of these two toponyms and the issues that underlie them. Secondly, we explain how the transition from the toponym faubourg to village took place. Finally, we show how the divisions of the city are translated into representations, valorising, segregating or segregating attitudes.

Les enseignes commerciales au centre-ville d Alger : choix des langues et représentations. Cas de la rue Larbi Ben Mhidi (ex-rue dIsly) d Alger-centre |
Author : Zohra BENMANSOUR, Noudjoud BERGHOUT |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :This article is part of urban sociolinguistics, which is concerned with the study of the effects of the city on languages. Since its emergence, this discipline has considered the city, the neighbourhood, the street as a social product. The work carried out in this discipline has highlighted the issues of urbanity, spatiality, representations, and socio-language practices. In this work, we are going to identify the writings of the city through linguistic signage, or the graphic environment considered as a kind of display that allows the user of the city to find himself in the urban space. More precisely, we chose to work on the shop signs of the Larbi Ben Mhidi street (ex Isly street) of Algiers-centre. Through the commercial signage of this urban space, we aim to verify the sociolinguistic and urban representations as well as the traders choice of languages in their signage. Thus, we will try to highlight the criteria that encourage our speakers (the shopkeepers) to choose the language(s) they put on their shop fronts.

La signalétique urbaine : un indice de singularisation sociolinguistique ou d’égarement socio-identitaire ? Cas des enseignes commerciales monolingues dans la ville de Bouira |
Author : Mourad ABBAS |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Signage related to the urban context is taken as one of the major keys to grasping the correlations between the linguistic explicit and the social implicit adopted by the subject city dwellers. Conceived as one of the processes of signage interaction, the sign stands out from its competitors by integrating aspects that are essentially linguistic, semiotic and also social. It makes it possible to communicate the quality and type of service offered to the public. It has a fairly efficient place, particularly in our cities. Thus, this paper, which falls within the framework of urban sociolinguistics, on commercial signs in the city of Bouira, is of primary importance. While using a quantitative-analytical approach, I will try to show, through this perception of the urban reality displayed via linguistic praxis, the sociolinguistic complexity between the so-called monolingual uses and their links with the socio-identity of the urban Bouiris. Further on, this intervention leads to the confrontation of the various recourse to foreign languages in relation to the so-called identity languages of the Bouiris Being. Finally, whether it is a question of an important monolingualism revealing the singularities of the urban Bouiri terrain in relation to others that are sociolinguistically homo/heterogeneous to it.

Catégorisation des espaces dans la vallée du Mzab : pour une approche en sociolinguistique urbaine |
Author : Mokhtar BOUGHANEM |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The starting point of our reflection revolves around the following questions: How are spaces categorized in and by the discourses of the speakers of the Mzab Valley? According to what criteria are these spaces categorized? What is the role of language in this categorisation process? Through these questions, we will try to examine the way in which the speakers of the Mzab Valley cut up, section, compartmentalise and classify spaces according to their representations, both spatial and sociolinguistic. This seems to us to be interesting to study, in the sense that it could inform us about the functions assigned to the spaces in question and about the languages that are attributed to them.
