Abstract :This paper intends to firstly, investigate whether adverse life events can contribute to psychotic disorders, and secondly, to further investigate how the perception of recovery impacts on the recovery journey and wellbeing of those who have been diagnosed with psychotic disorders. Thus, this paper explores a first-hand account by Peter Chadwick in his publications, detailing a catalogue of adverse life events and his 1979 schizoaffective psychotic crisis. Adverse Life Events (ALE) was identified as a factor that may cause a build-up to psychosis. Secondly, the Perception of Recovery (PoR) was found to be instrumental in the recovery journey. Recommendations were made drawing on findings to promote wellbeing in the recovery journey.
