ITS NOT YOU, ITS ME: HOW PROFESSIONAL TRAINING/DEFORMATION INFLUENCES THE EVALUATIONS BEYOND PERSONAL EXPERIENCE | Author : Vanessa Álvarez Valbuena, Ignacio Jáuregui Lobera | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The great availability of information and access to the media in our days implies that, regardless of different characteristics and interests, people are the recipient of documentaries and specialized health campaigns. Is it possible to say that their influence is innocuous when referring to Eating Disorders? Will the evaluation and influence of a concrete report cause different impact on people with personal experience close to Eating Disorders? Will there be any differences based on previous specific professional training? Contrary to what was expected by the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM), the results indicate that, although the specific profession has a significant influence on the evaluation and consideration of health-related information, the personal experience close to patients with Eating Disorders seems to be irrelevant.

| PATENT FORAMEN OVALE CLOSURE IN PATIENTS WITH CRYPTOGENIC STROKE: A WAY WITH NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE RESULTS | Author : Antonio Cruz Culebras, Rocio Vera | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Approximately 40% of patients with cryptogenic stroke have a Permeable Foramen Oval, which is present in 20-25% of the healthy population. Controversy and doubt whether this structure should be closed when paradoxical embolism is suspected has been proposed to reduce the risk of recurrence. Some publications (trials CLOSURE I, RESPECT 2013 or PC TRIAL) discouraged it, based on the results obtained. New evidence published at the end of 2017 (CLOSE, REDUCE and RESPECT 2017 trials) changes the way of evidence to reopen the debate and delimit which patients the procedure should be considered since there is sufficient evidence to reduce the risk of recurrence in some selected patients |
| EFFECTS OF A PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROGRAM ON DEPRESSION PARAMETERS IN POSTMENOPAUSAL WOMEN | Author : Mario Pérez-Quintero, Diego Muñoz Marín, Francisco Javier Grijota Pérez, Julio Montero Arroyo, Maria Concepción Robles Gil, Marcos Maynar Mariño | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Aim: The aim of this survey was to meet the exercise-induced psychological modifications in postmenopausal women.
Method: 30 postmenopausal women (54,00 ± 5,6 years) participated in this survey, they were classified in two groups: Depression Group (DG) (n=15) and Control Group (CG) (n=15). The program of physical activity had a duration of 6 months and consisted of low to moderate physical exercises (50-60% of the maximal hearth rate of reserve) and with a weekly frequency of 4 days.
Results: the obtained results showed no improvement in the depression indexes, however a positive trend in the parameters of depression has been observed.
Conclusion: results indicate that regular, systematic low intensity physical training, 4 days/week is not enough to reduce the depressive symptoms or to improve the mood state in postmenopausal depressive women. It is necessary more studies with different exercise intensity to clarify the effect on depression. |
| NUTRITION IN PREGNANT WOMEN AND THEIR WEIGHT GAIN ACCORDING SOCIOECONOMIC STRATA, VENEZUELAN EXPERIENCE | Author : Yurelkys Celis, Gabriela Gouveia, Haylen Lezama, Dalila Valbuena, Marisol García de Yégüez, Miriam Henríquez, Pablo Emilio Hernández-Rojas | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Objective: to know the relationship between pregnant womens nutrition and weight gain in the different socioeconomic strata.
Introduction: Pregnancy is a period of change, during which an excessive increase in weight leads to imbalances of both the mother and the fetus, with unpredictable future consequences, so that the socioeconomic evaluation of dietary habits according to the different strata will help guidance in prenatal consultation.
Materials and methods: An epidemiological, analytical, cross-sectional and non-experimental study was conducted with a total population of 101 pregnant women in the period June to August 2017. A questionnaire was applied to identify the weight gained during pregnancy, the level of knowledge food and nutrition as well as socioeconomic status. Statistical analysis was performed with software Epi Data version 3.5.4, and ANOVA test for statistical significance, in which p < 0.05 were significative.
Results: The mean age was 24 ± 5 years, with a gestational age between 22 and 34 weeks, socioeconomic status predominated Graffar III (46%) with a high-calorie, low-fat diet and ypoproteic and unbalanced in remaining strata; with a prepregnancy weight of 59 ± 11 kg, 67 ± 11 gestational Kg, and a monthly gain between 0,2 - 2 kg.
Conclusions: There is a relationship between maternal nutrition and weight gain with the social stratum; an alteration of any of these factors could change the health and welfare of both mother and child. Nevertheless, we couldn’t find specific causal association with maternal diseases. We recommend prenatal weight control and at least once every three months nutritional control and monitoring weight gain with specialists in the field. |
| THERE ARE NO DIFFERENCES IN THE CONSUMPTION OF SPORTS NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL AND NATIONAL POWERLIFTERS | Author : José María Puya-Braza, Antonio Jesús Sánchez-Oliver, Sandro Fernandes da Silva, Raúl Domínguez | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The scientific literature regarding the evaluation of the consumption of sports nutritional supplements (SND) in strength sports, such as powerlifting, is scarce and most studies have poor quality methodologies, having created myths and pseudosciences in the sector. In order to provide recommendations on SND based on the level of scientific evidence, the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) has created a SND classification based on the level of scientific evidence.
Aims: To know, from a quantitative and qualitative point of view, the SNDs used by powerlifters that compete at an international and national level.
Methods and Material: 32 powerlifter (10 international and 22 national) filled a daily SND for 72 hours.
Statistical analysis used: A non-parametric Mann-Witney U test was performed for independent samples in order to verify differences in the number of total supplements consumed, as well as the number of supplements consumed in each category established by the AIS. In addition, a ? 2 test was applied to compare differences in the frequency of supplement consumption among athletes of different categories. The level of statistical significance was set at p<0.05.
Results: No differences were observed when comparing powerlifters of international and national level in terms of the number of SND consumed. There were also no statistically significant differences in SND consumption according to the level of evidence, although it was observed that international athletes consumed more than those categorized with greater evidence (p>0.05).
Conclusions: Although international powerlifters tended to consume supplements with a higher level of scientific evidence, significant statistical differences were not reached and, therefore, our hypothesis was not met.
