Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Warts are clinically skin infections caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). Some warts are painful while others cause frustration in patients. Warts are contagious and need to be diagnosed clinically from the outgrowth of skin. Topical retinoids have clinical use for treatment of chronic skin conditions. Topical retinoids for treatment of skin cancer are tretinoin, the acid form of vitamin A, also known as all-trans retinoic acid, which is the active vitamin A metabolite in several tissues, isotretinoin (13-cis-retinoic acid), and two third-generation retinoids, adapalene and tazarotene. Vitamin A is necessary for the growth and differentiation of epithelial tissues. Retinoids influence the process of vitamin A by interacting with specific cellular and nuclear receptors of skin. In that way retinoids control cell proliferation and differentiation and potentially interfere with the tumor promotion phase of carcinogenesis by inducing apoptosis. Review of medical literatures from past few years revealed monotherapies and combination therapies to eradicate viral infections caused by HPV. Purpose of this review article is to provide general information about warts, its mechanism and treatment by topical retinoids |

Cytotoxic Activity of Flavone Analogues |
Author : Dr. Afroze Alam, U Farooq, Kamlesh Kumar Naik, Rashmi Singh, Vachaspati Dubey, Monika Verma, B D Tripathi, Vinod Kumar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :he flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds and universally present as constituents of flowering plants, particularly of food plants. The flavonoids are phenyl substituted chroman (benzopyran derivatives) consisting of a 15-carbon basic skeleton (C6-C3-C6), composed of a chroman (C6-C3) nucleus (the benzo ring A and the heterocyclic ring C), also shared by the tocopherols, with a phenyl (the aromatic ring B), substitution usually at the 2-position. Different substitutions can typically occur in the rings, A and B. Several plants and spices containing flavonoid derivatives have found application as disease preventive and therapeutic agents in traditional medicine in Asia for thousands of years. Various analogues of 3-methylflavones were synthesised, purified and characterised by UV, IR, 1HNMR and mass spectrometry .All the synthesised compounds were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity by MTT assay against HeLa cell line. Most of the compounds show moderate activity, whereas the compounds like FA-04.FA-20,FA-10 and FA-13 have shown good activity having IC50 value 22.00,25.49.26.24 and 26.35 µg/ml respectively, in comparison to standard molecule Cisplastin had IC50 value 6- 12.5 µg/ml . Thus it appears the presence of 3- methyl group in the flavone nucleus significantly influences the log ‘P’ value of all the twenty test compounds. The prominent activity the of above compounds is probably because of 3-methyl and N, N-dimethyl amino substitution on 4’- position of flavonoid nucleus |

Author : Jyoti Srivastava, Mahroz ., Padma S Vankar |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Stevia is a natural sweetener obtained from the leaves of Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni),belonging to the Asteraceae family. The objective of the present study was to develop a rapid and effective methodology for the extraction of stevioside and rebaudioside A from Stevia leaves and to compare the yields with different extraction techniques. Modified method of extraction was done with water finally the glycosides were precipitated by methanol-water solvent (0.25:1.0 v/v). The solvent from the extract was removed by lyophilization. Extracted product was analyzed by HPLC-PDA followed by mass-spectrometric (MS) detections. The decolorized extract was separated on an NH2 column using PDA detection with excitation at 210 nm. The mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile/water (80:20 v/v) with a flow rate of 1 ml/min. Evaluative criteria for stevioside and rebaudioside yield in this new method was high. An improved analytical method was developed which may be applied to quality control of stevioside content in dried leaves of Stevia before processing |

Abstract :Fruit and vegetable have been the source of many medicines in the pharmacopoeia. So much so that an industry has arisen selling plant extracts as health foods. The present study was carried out to evaluate the bioactive compounds in red and purple fruit and vegetables (Rubus fruticosus, VitisHYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitis_labrusca” HYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitis_labrusca”labrusca, Ficus carica, Olea europaea, Punica granatum,DaucusHYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daucus_carota” HYPERLINK “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daucus_carota”carota, Prunus Americana, Beta vulgaris, Brassica oleracea). Extraction of nine different foods in methanol yielded highest extraction in Ficus carica(fig) 44.95 %. This research studies showed high content of total Phenol in Brassica oleracea (purple cabbage) 122.355 mg /g GAE determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and total flavonoid content in Olea europaea (black olive) 60.097 mg /g QE. The antioxidant activities determined by the DPPH and FRAP methods, very high values of antioxidant activity were found in all intensely colored vegetables especially in red cabbage 84.96 % and 37.085 respectively. Values were very low in black olive 28.03% and 7.916. |

Quality Management System in the Pharmaceutical Industry: A Review |
Author : Mr. Anupam Gulabdhar Pandey |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :uality Manuals provide the overall information about the working of the department. Issues concerning regulatory requirements and quality are further interpreted by means of Directives or Guidelines. Directives are reserved for those cases where regulations do not allow any freedom with regard to their implementation. Finally SOPs define the actual systems in place on the shop floor. The Policy is a high level overall plan embracing the general goals and acceptable procedures. The purpose is the establishment of general conditions regarding the product quality and conformity with official standards. The Directive is a document that serves to direct, guide, and usually impel toward an action or goal; especially an authoritative instrument issued by a high-level body or official. It supplies instructions concerning the quality system of the Unit. It leaves only a small margin due to legal constraints. In Pharmaceutical Industry the Guideline is an indication or outline of policy or conduct. It has the same scope as the Directive. Describes general procedures of a defined activity or operation, leaves more freedom of action than the Directive. The SOP is an authorized written procedure giving instructions for performing operations not necessarily specific to a given product or material, but of a more general nature (equipment operation; maintenance and cleaning; cleaning of premises and environmental control; sampling and inspection). SOPs must be developed to define the work of operators and addressed to standardize the approach during operations |
