Abstract :The purpose of this research is to examine the professional anxiety levels of geography students by various variables such as gender, grade level, educational status, family income, desire for teaching, reasons for choosing the department and qualification status of the courses offered at their faculty regarding the Public Personnel Selection Exam. The survey group of the study consisted of 361 students majoring at the Department of Geography of Kahramanmaras Sütçü Imam University the sample selection was achieved through a simple random sampling method. To measure the anxiety level of these students, eight sub-dimensions of the Professional Anxiety Scale developed by Cabi and Yalçinalp in 2013, and a personal information form created by the researcher were used together in the survey. The analysis of the data was performed by applying a t-test for the parametric data through SPSS package program, a one-way analysis of variance test (ANOVA) for multiple comparisons, and the Kruscal-Wallis test for the nonparametric data. In terms of the variables employed in this research, significant differences were elicited in the professional anxieties of the students in several dimensions. The results of the study also indicated that male students were more anxious than female students concerning their occupation, and students attending daytime education were found to be more anxious than those attending evening courses. In addition, several suggestions were made for further similar studies that can be carried out in the future.
