palinoFLORAS: a palynotheca associated with a botanical garden in southern Bahia State, Brazil | Author : Jaílson Santos de Novais, Victor Leon Rocha Araújo, Agna Souza Silveira, Michele da Silva Ferreira Bandeira | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :We describe the creation of the Southern Bahia Atlantic Forest Palynotheca, a botanical collection associated to the FLORAS Botanical Garden. Currently, the palinoFLORAS has three pollen slides collections under construction, including 54 records from the reference’s collection, 52 from the applied collection and 28 from the didactic collection. The new pollen library has supported activities in palynology’s teaching and research, contributing to human resource training in this area. We hope this initiative promote the implementation of more palynothecas in Brazil and, consequently, more studies focused on our still poorly known palynodiversity. |
| The botany, so close and so far: the planning in a distance learning course on Biological Sciences | Author : Rayane de Tasso Moreira Ribeiro, Roselita Maria de Souza Mendes, Lydia Dayanne Maia Pantoja, Germana Costa Paixão | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This research aimed to analyze, comparatively, the teaching plans ? including contents, activities and didactic materials ? of the botany area of a Biological Sciences course in the distance learning. The research is characterized as a qualitative study and exploratory intervention with the analysis of 12 plans of the disciplines ‘Morphology and Taxonomy of Cryptogams’, ‘Morphology and Taxonomy of Spermatophytes’ and ‘Plant Physiology’, from 2009 to 2014. It was possible to verify that the disciplines were continuously updated throughout the series of study groups analyzed, with numerous contents and diversified activities. The use of different teaching strategies present in the botany disciplines of the course denotes the concern of teacher trainers regarding the diversification of tools for the learning process, allowing the development of multiple skills in students. |
| Stingless bees (Apidae: Meliponini) in an agro-forest system in southern Bahia: nest mapping and perceptions of the workers | Author : Olívia Maria Pereira Duarte, Fernando Silva Santos | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Although pollination is an ecosystem service easily associated with food production, modes of production do not always favor pollinators. However, production in agro-forest systems allows the association of productive management with the conservation of forest remnants. Thus, the present work has carried out a survey of stingless bees in an agro-forest system in the South of Bahia, through the active search for nests in four plots along the Bom Sossego farm and, also, through semi-structured interviews with the employees of the farm. Five nests were found: three of the genus Plebeia Schwarz, (1938) and two of Partamona Schwarz, (1939). The interviews showed to knowledge the importance and the reduction of populations of stingless bees in the region. However, predatory practices have also been reported. The observed diversity indicates the decline of the stingless bees’ population. |
