An Academic Journal’s Search for Identity (Egy tudományos folyóirat identitáskeresése) |
Author : András Zselyke |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The article entitled „An Academic Journal’s Search for Identity” deals with questions of genre and scholarship in the case of a printed matter, the status of which proves to be problematic during the researches. The Erdélyi Múzeum is the oldest and most valuable of Transylvania’s periodicals with similar programme, its scholarly approaches combine scientific methods with those belonging to the domain of hermeneutics and literature. The determining scientific approach influencing the authors of this particular periodical between the two World Wars is positivism (proclaiming objectivity above all). This however does not appear in its clear essence but intermingled
with manifestations of each author’s emotional attitude. The researcher’s task when writing an article or essay on issues of history of science is to track down the little „heresies” committed by the positivist writers. |

Author : Júlia-Réka Vallasek |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The study presents the spatial policies practiced in the cultural festival Hungarian Cultural Days of Cluj, that can be interpreted both as part of the spatial self-representation of the participating/organizing community and as part of the city’s well-contoured cultural strategy presenting Cluj-Napoca in terms of ‘city of events’, a dynamic, creative and multicultural place.
Following an introductory conceptual chapter off ering general considerations on the use of space in public events and the importance of (cultural) festivals both in community representation and settlement branding, the case study offers a general presentation of the event to be analysed, focusing on the specific spatial practices of the eight different editions of the Hungarian Cultural Days of Cluj and their possible interpretations. |

Abstract :The number and the importance of television series has been constantly growing in the past decades due to the expansion of multi-channel commercial television, cable television and lately, streaming services. Television series are important parts of audience recruitment strategies, thus have a significant role in the stark competition. It is increasingly difficult to excel with a new show in the saturated market. The constant urge of renewal is embedded in television series – every producer strives to create something within the confines of the medium that is both familiar, easily comprehensible, yet show elements of novelty to emerge from the sea of contemporaries. Television series are stellar examples for what Seldes calls ‘lively arts’ since these are in a constant interaction with everyday life, characterized by continuous creative renewal, and steadily revitalizing already established formulas. In this study we aim to introduce the logic of renewal in the hospital drama genre, however, our frame of reference can be extended to examine other genres as well. |

Újmédia, új hitelesség(ek)? Egészségügyi újságírás a blogoszférában és a YouTube-on |
Author : Dunai Tamás–Sifter Adél |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Until the rise of new media, the health discourse was dominated by scientific, academic, medical and journalistic actors. In recent years, the influencers in the blogosphere and on the YouTube have also begun to work on topics of health: more and more civil content is appearing in both text and video form. In our article, we examine if these content creators can be interpreted as new actors in health journalism. Our study compares two Hungarian influencers (Antal Vali, Tindigo) with two completely different authenticity strategies to provide an accurate picture of health journalism and its credibility in the era of new media. |

Imázsformálás a gyermekhospice-ban. Az állandó válságkommunikáció szükségessége és okai |
Author : Dunai Tamás–Lengyel Nikolett Lilla |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The holistic hospice-palliative care of dying persons turned into a generally accepted approach in Hungary only after the 1989 regime change. Specific children’s hospices were established in 2011. These organizations had to face the fact that their everyday work is even more difficult, than the hospices for adults, because of the highly sensitive, often rejected and neglected field they work in. From a marketing communication and public relations standpoint we can state that children’s hospices are in a permanent crisis situation and as a part of it, they need to follow a well-designed crisis communication strategy on a daily basis. In this paper we discuss the main social reasons of this situation – illustrated by the example of the only functioning children’s hospice institution in Hungary, the Tabitha House –, namely the taboo of death, the misconceptions around the term hospice, the general mistrust toward social organizations and the low level of social participation. Our aim is to briefly analyse these phenomena and to present some online communication methods by the example of the Tabitha House which can facilitate the process of the strategic planning and decision-making of the children’s hospices and the organizations working with a socially sensitive issue. |

The “ElectronicJihad”. How Social Media are Used for Disseminating Terrorist Propaganda |
Author : Bogdan-George Radulescu |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Communication technology and social media in particular have a decisive effect on expanding the global community of terrorist organizations. More than any other terrorist group in history, the Islamic State organization (also known as ISIS, ISIL or Daesh) has made the most of social networks to increase its efforts and achieve its violent goals. The Europol study shows that about 150 different social media platforms have been used by this terrorist organization as a means of recruiting and to spread propaganda using high quality videos and other media. The term “electronic jihad” was launched by Professor Martin Rudner, a researcher at Carleton University. The clear components of this electronic jihad are propaganda, misinformation, subversion, and the attempt to destroy the moral values of the Western world. |

A médiamuveltség értelmezési keretei a magyarországi tanárok körében |
Author : Rajnai Richárd |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :In my essay, I will introduce various elements of the media literacy concept of Hungarian teachers through a large sample size, representative research. Our study focused on the relationship between educational environment and media literacy, competence development as well as the practice of media education. Data collection was carried out at the turn of 2018/2019. Our findings revealed that the teachers’ concept of media literacy already encompasses the same paradigms present in the scientific discourse concerning media literacy. Nevertheless, the multidimensional concept of media literacy misses an exact definition of media literacy applicable for the entire educational policy, which could provide a clear guideline for teachers. Therefore, the understanding of the concept is based mostly on individual impressions and experiences, simultaneously mirroring the expectations towards teachers as well as reflections on the challenges emerging from media usage. |

Author : Makkai Júlia Anna–Szocs Izabella |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Addressing global data privacy issues of recent years, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was adopted in May 2016 by the European Union and came into force two years later in May 2018 for the member countries of the EU. Our research seeks to answer if, given the prevalence of information and communication technologies, there is a conscious attitude and caution in disclosing personal data and using the Internet in an age group that was born into digitalization and their lifestyle is characterized by it. This paper pursues a broader perspective of Generation Z’s data protection knowledge and their actual relationship with data protection. Particularly, it seeks to answer the level and form of awareness characteristic to this generation when it comes to data protection. |
