Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :In this study, energy analysis of the vapor compression refrigeration system using LPG
(R1270-Propylene), one of the hydrocarbon refrigerants, was performed. Coolpack program is
used for calculations. The effects of LPG (R1270-Propylene) on system performance for
different operating conditions are examined. In the analysis based on the evaporator
temperature change, the highest COP value of the cycle is 8.65 for -1
oC evaporator
temperature, 25oC condenser temperature.

Comparison of Different Normalization Techniques on Speakers’ Gender Detection |
Author : Serhat Celil ILERI, Armagan KARABINA, Erdal KILIÇ |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :In this study, the effect of Short-time Mean and Variance Normalization (STMVN), Shorttime
Cepstral Mean and Scale Normalization (STMSN), Min-Max Normalization, Z-Score
Normalization and Standard Deviation Normalization techniques on the classification
performance was investigated in determining speakers’ gender. In the study, voice records
which belongs to 192 male and 192 female speakers from TIMIT data set were used as data
set. Features were extracted from Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) technique by
using voice records and extracted features’ dimension was reduced to Principal Component
Analysis (PCA), then normalized with different techniques. Support Vector Machine (SVM)
was used as classifier. As a result of study, it was observed that, the highest accuracy in
speakers’ gender estimation is obtained as 98.18% from features which were normalized with
Standard Deviation Normalization technique and other normalization techniques were
reduced accuracy. |

Author : Adnan KALKAN, Mehmet TEPELI |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Universities are institutions of higher education established to carry out high-level educationtraining,
scientific research & development, publication and counseling, with scientific
autonomy and public legal entity. The Higher Education Quality Board has been established
independently from the Higher Education Council within the scope of the Higher Education
Quality Assurance Regulation, which was enacted by publishing the Official Gazette dated
July 23, 2015 and numbered 29423 with the aim of realizing audit activities at universities
and carrying out studies for the settlement and dissemination of quality applications. Based on
this regulation, “Working Procedures and Principles of Higher Education Quality Board” has
been determined. Within the framework of this legislation, Mehmet Akif Ersoy University has
started Quality Assurance studies since 2016 and has created internal evaluation reports so
far. The purpose of this paper was to examine the applications of the Quality Assurance
System, which is carried out in Mehmet Akif Ersoy University integrated with the Regional
Development Focused Mission Discrimination and Specialization Program in Agriculture and
Livestock Field. |

Abstract :National and international reports, as well as independent studies showed that the ratio of
elderly in population tends to grow fast in near future, and the average life expectancy has
been increasing for almost all countries. This data-based projection increased the importance
of gerontology discipline. Teaching statistics through data investigations is presented for
improving the quality of statistics and data analysis education, which occupies an essential
place in gerontology undergraduate education. This paper suggests presenting teaching
statistics through data investigations method to gerontology students, and thus, to use this
method in gerontology research. |

Lojistikte Tasima Sekillerinin Belirlenmesi: Bir Kombine Tasimacilik Örnegi |
Author : Bahadir GÜLSÜN, Burak ERKAYMAN |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :In this study, one of the major problems of Turkey; “transportation” is examined in logistics.
The importance, applicability, advantages-disadvantages and the future of Combined
Transport is discussed. The solution which is created for the case of Turkey here, is a kind of Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP). TSP can be used to design a transportation network.
Methods to solve the TSP problems are classified in two groups. First of these is exact
algorithms, and the other is heuristics. The time of solution and the complexity of the solution
can change the methods which will be used in the problem. Created problem is solved by the
PyGenetix software and the conclusions are analyzed. In this study, Genetic Algorithms is
proposed as an optimization technic for the problem and solved by Genetic Algorithms based
software. Outputs of the program give realistic ideas to design an effective and productive
transportation network in Turkey.

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :It is obvious that the model of Turkeys economy will be closer to export oriented functioning
structure with the help of coming structural reforms. If this is not done, the fluctuating
economy process will continue with the risks created by the current account deficit. The focus
of our work is on how to provide export financing for the companies that have the potential of
growth but do no have ability to raise funds from both the conventional, participation banks
and the Eximbank. Also it is also almost certain that the sukuk model which we have
constructed for export financing will increase the issued amount of USD based lease
certificates and will allow the maturities to be shorter than usual. Thus, securitization is
provided by the sukuk model for investors who use the product bank model in the Middle
East. The fact that the product is insured will increase the liquidity in the secondary market.
As a result, in the traditional sense sukuk model for investors using the product will be more
attractive in the Middle East and the Gulf region and this attraction will increase the flow of
capital to Turkey. |

Influence of Fluid Charge Rate on Gravity Assisted Heat Pipe Performance at Low Temperatures |
Author : Ragip YILDIRIM, Abdullah YILDIZ, Ahmet ÖZSOY |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The heat pipe is an effective heat transfer device. Thermosyphon is a closed, vacuumed, fluid
contained and generally pipe shaped heat transfer device. It ensures high heat transfer even at
very low temperature differences. Heat pipes have very wide utilization fields. Therefore,
many studies have been carried out to improve the thermal performances of heat pipes. In this
study, the effect of the fluid charge rate on the operation of the heat pipe was examined. To do
this, a heat pipe model with a diameter of 25 mm was created. The heat pipes evaporator,
condenser and adiabatic lengths are 2m, 1m and 0.1m respectively. The heat pipe has been
examined for various fluid charge rates and different heat source temperatures. The increase
in fluid charge rate has been seen to have a negative impact on the operation of the heat pipe,
particularly at low temperatures. In addition, at low temperatures the acetone performed better
heat transfer than the methanol. At high temperatures, the methanol performed better heat
transfer than the acetone.

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The finite time thermodynamics (FTT) model is often used to study the design parameters of
internal combustion engines in a practical way. In this study, the effects of stroke ratio and
residual gas fraction on the performance of an Otto cycle engine, in which irreversibilities,
heat losses and friction are accounted for, are investigated. The initial cycle temperature is
now defined as a function of the residual gas fraction. As a result of this study, it was observed that with the increase of the stroke ratio, and with the increase of the residual gas
fraction, there was a significant decrease in engine performance. |
