Abstract :Financial translation is an important profession that researcher in the field of
translation and economy are in need of. It seems that this kind of research in Europe is
well developed compared to the rest of world. This paper, thus, tries to shed light and
discuss the drives behind which such focus is done. To reach such aim, the study has
applied bibliographic analysis on some bibliographic references about the economic
translation and its relation to the Arab world. |

Translation and Cognitive Sciences: Understanding the Influence of Selective Attention |

Abstract :The aim of this paper is to study the influence of attention on translation. The study
will provide a detailed analysis of the correlation between specific types of errors and
distorted selective attention. With reference to the definition of attention, this paper
explains first how a translator completes a dedicated task while managing his attention
resources. Second, an empirical study has been conducted to explore the negative
influence of distorted attention in making errors and, thus, in decreasing the quality of
the translated output. Results showed that selective attention influences the translation
process in case of a distorted work environment, thus pushing the translator,
unintendedly, to make errors. The paper concludes by affirming that training the
translator to cope with his work environment and to better distribute his attention can
limit errors while translating. |

Machine Translation and Post-Editing in the German-Spanish Translation Teaching: The Case of Economic and Financial Text |

Abstract :The aim of this paper is to address the impact of the use of CAT tools in professional
practice,and specifically,in machine translation (MT), as well as its introduction in
university teaching as well as the work resulting. the post-editing. To achieve this
goal, we present the didactic experience resulting from the analysis of the translations
of an economic and financial text from a German journal, analysis carried out by three
different MT engines. This work was carried out within a didactic unit devoted to
"Correction and post-editing" that we teach as part of the subject "General B-A
Translation: German-Spanish" in the Degree in Translation and Interpreting at the
University of Alicante. We worked with first-year students with little experience in
translation, who were asked to produce a human translation of the same text in order
to compare it with the machine translations mentioned. |

A Cognitive Approach in Specialized Translation: Obstacles Faced by ESL Students at the UFE |

Abstract :Translation is the art of communication, which takes place through language to
transfer the meaning from the Source Text to the Target Text. So, the translator
requires a double-sided ability to translate a specialized text. Such ability deals with
the fluency of the Target Language and the comprehensive knowledge of the original
text. Thus, this paper aims at applying a cognitive approach to specialized translation
to help in understanding the original text to be translated, which takes place through
applying: Lexico- grammatical patterns (collocations), Semantic patterns (metaphors),
and Register patterns (domain-knowledge) to overcome the obstacles faced by ESL
freshmen in translating from English into Arabic and vice versa. The analysis is based
on providing some extracts from economic articles published in Reuters, CNBC, and
Elwatannews and the proposed translations by students of year 1 and 2. The results
show that students need to be aware of collocations, metaphors, and domainknowledge to be able to transfer the meaning to the Target Language. |
