Abstract :The discovery of NK cells in more than 30 years ago, open a new era in immunology and specifically in cancer immunology and reproductive immunology. Many studies have been taken place in medicine in order to obtain new diagnostic panels and therapeutic strategies involving NK cells. High NK cell activity has been associated with miscarriage and embryo implantation failure, because these cells attack the embryo in its early development in the uterus and recognize as a foreign body. |

Abstract :Neoplasm of the ovary may coexist with benign teratoma of the opposite organ. I report from an Ethnic Group in Nigeria the 6 cases which were collected during a period of 30 years at a Reference Pathology Laboratory. As the age range was from 21 to 40 years, the series confirms the uncommonness of teratomas in menopausal females. In contrast, dysgerminoma is shown to feature in younger persons. As bilaterality of neoplasms may occur in the ovaries, attention should be paid during clinical work-up. |

Abstract :Prepared nanoparticles were characterized in terms of particle size, scanning electron microscope (SEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). In-vitro release studies were performed in phosphate buffer saline pH 7.4 at 37°±0.5°C for 1month. The mean particle size of obtained nanoparticles was 150-400 nm and was apparently spherical in shape, with smooth surface. DSC is done for the stability test for pure drug and sample. The thermogram of drug has not shifted for in the formulation compare to pure drug thermogram hence, the stability of formulation is not changed. FT-IR studies demonstrated that the drug was not changed in the formulation during the fabrication process.The encapsulation efficiency was about 48%. The Anastrozole-BSA nanoparticles exhibit a most interesting release profile with small initial burst followed by slower and controlled release. |

Ondansetron Hydrochloride in Treating Patients with Cancer and Chronic Nausea Vomiting |

Abstract :The objective of this study was to develop effective bioadhesive buccal bilayered tablets comprising of drug containing bioadhesive layer and drug free backing layer, expected to release the drug in unidirection for extended period of time. Tablets of ondansetron HCl were prepared by direct compression method using bioadhesive polymers like Carbopol 934P, Methocel K4M, Methocel K15M and Hydroxy propyl cellulose in different combinations and concentrations with backing layer of ethyl cellulose. Buccal tablets were evaluated by different parameters such as thickness, hardness, weight uniformity, content uniformity, swelling index, surface pH, ex vivo bioadhesive strength, ex vivo residence time, in vitro drug release, ex vivo drug permeation, stability studies in human saliva, in vivo mucoadhesive performance studies and FTIR studies. The modified in vitro assembly was used to measure the bioadhesive strength of tablets with fresh porcine buccal mucosa as model tissue. Bioadhesion strength was increased with increase in the concentration of carbopol. The tablets were evaluated for in vitro release in pH 6.6 phosphate buffer for 8 hr in standard dissolution apparatus. In order to improve the permeation of the drug, tauroglycholate (permeation enhancer) added in the optimized formulation at 10mM concentration. In order to determine the mode of release, the data was subjected to Korsmeyer and Peppas diffusion model. The optimized formula followed non-fickian release mechanism with zero order kinetics. Carbopol 934P and HPC in the ratio of 3:1 could be used to design effective and stable buccoadhesive tablets of ondansetron HCl. The present study concludes that buccal delivery of ondansetron HCl tablets can be good way to bypass the first pass metabolism. |

Role of Biorepositories in Personalized Medicine: Isolation and Processing of Primary Tumor Cells for the initiation Tumor Cultures |

Abstract :The introduction of three-dimensional (3D) tumor cultures has revolutionized anticancer drug research as these cultures allow for the study of drug resistance mechanisms that cannot be explored in traditional two dimensional (2D) monolayer cultures. Discoveries in the 3D tumor culture field suggest that individualized drug sensitivity testing of solid tumor specimens through the establishment and use of 3D tumor cell cultures following tissue collection will become a routine service offered by modern tissue repositories as they expand from their traditional research role to active participation in personalized medicine. Unfortunately, most information related to 3D tumor cultures comes from studies using established tumor cell lines rather than primary tumor cultures. However, accumulation of genetic aberrations in cancer cell lines occurs with increasing number of passages severely limiting their usefulness for personalized medicine. There is only very limited information available concerning technologies and standard operating procedures for the efficient and routine isolation and processing of primary tumor cells for the establishment of 3D tumor cultures from solid tumor specimens. The purpose of this work was to review experimental data from the literature that may provide relevant information concerning the isolation and processing of primary tumor cells for the establishment of 3D tumor cultures. Information reviewed here may help bio repositories in the development and standardization of technologies and standard operating procedures related to the use of 3D tumor cultures. |
