A Brief History of Muslims and Christians Relations in Cyprus |
Author : Yusuf Suiçmez |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :To understand Cyprus problem and founding out a sustainable solution we need to analyze and understand the role of religion on Cyprus issues in past and today. As it is known both Christian and Muslim cultures left their signs on island and have a strong impact on today’s relationships. As a result of this different effects in The Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus, referred to the Orthodox Christianity and Islam as constituent elements.
After division of Christianity, the conflicts between Catholic and Orthodox Churches, Ottomans and Cyprus Orthodox Church became allies. The Ottomans, while trying to reduce Latin’s influence, treated the Orthodox Cypriots with the consideration and gained their good will. In 1821 with the outbreak of the Greek War of Independence, the Greeks of Cyprus attempted to follow in the footsteps of those of Greece; such was the accusation, which Kuchuk Mehmed brought against the bishops and the leading Greek laymen of Cyprus. As a result of this the Archbishop and his archdeacon were hanged, the three Bishops beheaded and the notables dispatched by the Janissaries. This was the break point and beginning of political separation between Ottoman administration and Cyprus Orthodox Church. In this article, I have tried to analyze the developments of relationships between Muslims and Christians under lights of history and give a right perspective to the future relationships.

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :The real basics of the belief system in Islam is Tawhid and the aim of Islam in socsal life is unity, solidarity and fellowship. In this article the sense of brotherhood in Islam and its results will be analyzed. In a broad perspective, all mankind is brother/sister because the roots of humanity belongs to Adam and Eve as well as, in a narrow perspective those who are sons and daughters of the same parents or those who have same mother as foster mother are brothers and sisters, and there are legal and moral results of this brother/sisterhood. There is brother/sisterhood from the perspective of having the same ancestor as well as religious brother/ sisterhood. Although there is no legal consequences of the religious brother/sisterhood as much as having the same ancestor, belief unity is examining the basics of the other brother/sisterhood and this brother/sisterhood is not only limited to this world and continues in the heaven, afterlife. As it is understood from this article the unity in the basics of belief gives a meaning to the bortherhood which is coming from foster-motherhood and ancestory. Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :A lot of verses in the Quran contain details and information about the period of Jahiliyyah. For this reason, any information about the period of the Jahiliyyah contributes to a better understanding of the Quran. The correct understanding and interpretation of the information conveyed by the Quran is also extremely important. This article discusses the existence of any worship practice of Namaz similar to the one in its present day form in the Jahiliyyah period. The 35th verse of Enfal Sura is one of the most important verses for good understanding of this subject. This verse is one of the most important arguments of the people who claim that polytheist were aware of the practice of Namaz. In this research, it emerged that the concept of Namaz was not present in its current sense. Analysis of other verses related to this subject also supports this idea. Therefore, the concept of worship ritual of the polytheists in the Jahiliyyah mentioned in the Quran is different than the concept of Namaz in Islam. |

EXPRESSION MISTAKES CAUSED BY WRONG OBJECT USAGE IN QURAN TRANSLATIONS |
Author : Abdulcelil Bilgin |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Sentences are consisted of a variety of elements such as subjects, verbs and objects. Object is an essential element for the sentences built up by transitive verbs, because object is the element that is affected by the verb committed by the subject in a sentence. When there is no object affected by the transitive verb committed by the subject, there will naturally be a mistake. Besides, there will be deficiency of meaning in a sentence which doesn’t have an object, and the interlocutor will not completely understand the message that is thought to be contained. That kind of wrong expressions, which are regarded as faulty sentences in Turkish, can be seen abundantly in Quran translations. It will be useful to analyze that kind of expressions, which cause the meaning to be faulty or sketchy in Quran translations, by examples. We hope that the attention of those who may concern will be attracted upon this topic, thereby paving the way for removing the faulty expressions that cause object mistakes from the Quran translations. |

An Apostil Regarding Enlightened Roots of Nationalism |
Author : Ahmet Erhan Sekerci |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Heraclitus has attempted to explain the meaning of life with Pantha Rei principle 2500 years ago. According to this, everything is in constant change as it flows inexorably. In a similar fashion, history flows just like the river that Heraclitos refers to. This means that there is no possibility to repeat an incident or prevent one from happening. Within this flowing course of time and history in constant change there are some landmarks and groundbreaking moments. Those momentous
changes have begot unexpected results that effect not only the present time but also the future. Nationalism that emerged within the Enlightenment and its intellectual atmosphere can been regarded as such a chance and possibility. Enlightenment, being an intellectual, social and political transformation of the eighteenth century has provided grounds for many upcoming emergences and changes. Triggering one another, the changes in the fields of primarily politics and secondarily humanities, social sciences and art emerged in quick succession and
formed the foundations of modern social structure. Thus nationalism is an outcome concept of the Enlightenment. With the French revolution, the ideals of liberty, equality and independence transformed into an intellectual and political current and system we call nationalism. This work is an attempt towards presenting a brief analysis of that transformation and a note from our perspective. |
