The Effect of the Cognitive Behavioral Counseling Practices on Selective Mutism | Author : Gürcan Seçim | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This study aimed to evaluate the effects of individual psychological counseling supported with cognitive behavioral approach in selective mutism. This study is a single-subject research in quasi-experimental method. ABA design which is used single-subject researchs was preferred in the study. The subject of this study is a 33 years old single woman. She has been diagnosed with mutism due to severe grief depression. When she came for counseling, she hasn’t been speaking for seven years since the death of her mother. Fifteen sessions of individual psychological counselling based on cognitive behavioral approach were carried on. The data were obtained from Beck Depression Inventory, Hollon and Kendall Automatic Thoughts Scale, records of the counselling, and subjective evaluation scales. The analysis of qualitative data was used content analysis and quantitative data was used Wilcoxon Sign Test preferable for quasi-experimental study in single subject research. Findings were evaluated in a way that psychological counseling based on cognitive behavioral approach was effective in selective mutism problem. |

Emotions are related to physiological, cognitive and social life sources. As the individual’s positive or negative sensations determine his or her adaptation, positive sensation can promote this individual’s wellness. As one foot of the tripod, the direction of emotion possesses the power that could determine the directions of thought and behavior feet. The wondered subject of the research is whether The Le Petit Prince, which is loaded with biblio therapeutic positive emotion messages, is the enhancer of positive emotions or not. I nother words, the impact of the Le Petit Prince story-focused biblio group guidance program on positive emotions is sought out in this research. The effect of biblio group guidance program, which was carried out for this reason, was analyzed. Biblio therapeutic support was provided with The Le Petit Prince story. The research was structured on mixed experimental design (2x2). As a result of the study, it was determined that the biblio group guidance program created significant difference on the individuals’ positive emotions. As for the effect size of the factor, it was found ?2=.63. |
| The Examination of Secondary School Students’ School Burnout Levels with regard to Educational Stress and Some Variables | Author : Nusret Erdemir | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The research was aimed to determine the relationships between school burnout, educational stress and some demographic variables. The research was conducted via relational screening model. The study group consisted of 299 secondary school students. Of the participants, 143 were female (47,8%) and 156 were male (52,2%). Demographic information form,School Burnout Scale,and EducationalStress Scales were used for data collection. Independent samplest test, ANOVA, Pearson product moment correlation analysisand multiple regression analysis were performed for data analysis, because data have normal distribution. In findings,there are positive correlations between school burnout, educational stress and achievement level. In addition, when the family income level increases, school burnout decreases. There were no significant relationships between school burnout, gender, parental association and number of siblings. In regression analysis,school burnout was predicted byeducational stress and achievement level. They explained 36% of total variance of school burnout.Moreover, findings were discussed in context of the related literature. |
| Determination of the Efficacy of Self-Esteem and Decision-Making Styles in Acquiring Emotional Autonomy in Young | Author : Sümeyye Çimen, Arkun Tatar | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of self-esteem in decision-making and decisionmaking styles on emotional autonomy dimensions in young. Participants were in the age range of 16-24 years living in Istanbul, 202 girls (55.2%) and 164 males (44.8%), total 366 students. The average age of participants is 19.07 ± 2.49 years. Of these, 157 are high school students (42.9%), 46 are associate students (12.6%) and 163 are undergraduate students (44.5%). For the analysis of the data, “Emotional Autonomy Scale” and “Melbourne Decision Making Scale I-II” were used. Pearson correlation and multiple regression analyzes were used for statistical analysis. According to the results of the research, self-esteem in decision-making, vigilance and hypervigilange decision-making styles predicted subscale dimensions of emotional autonomy. In addition, the influence of decision-making styles on the sub-dimensions of emotional autonomy changes during middle and late adolescence.

| Transactional Analysis in Epic Story of Bogaç Han The Son of Dirse Han | Author : Azmi Bayram Ilbay | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :This research focuses on the communication environment and relationships in the epic story of Dirse Han’s son Bogaç Han, which is in the book of Dede Korkut. Relations and communications in the story are being analyzed with the method based on the concepts of transactional analysis. As a result of analyses, in the analysis of the story in terms of transactional analysis it was found out that adult ego state had dominant rate in communication. It is seen that parental ego state is utilized when necessary, but child ego state is used less. In the relations that takes place in the story, the reality of adult ego state’s being prefered make us think that proceeding the communication by avoiding conflict is given importance. The relations between couples and the situations in which the women are the source, are found suitable for the criteria of healthy communication in terms of transactional analysis. Cross transactions are seen in the relations among men. This can be explained as struggle for power accompanying the states of communication. In these relations, it could be considered that the reason of cross transaction stems from status difference in addition to struggle for power. The findings obtained reveal that Turkish culture structure bears healthy communication atmosphere instead of the allegations of its bearing communication conflict. The examination of the book Dede Korkut with the methods and techniques of different social science fields strengthens the hypothesis revealing the richness in the Turkish culture structure could be exposed.
