Abstract :Incidence of delirium represented 32.3% since long in ICU settings, it might be higher. Other research showed the prevalence of delirium as high as 77% in ventilated burn patients. Incidence of delirium represented 32.3% since long in ICU settings, it might be higher. Other research showed the prevalence of delirium as high as 77% in ventilated burn patients. The incidence of delirium in the ICU ranged from 45% to 87%, this ratio appeared be different to the studied population exclusively to mechanically ventilated patients. |

Therapeutic Apheresis and Immunosuppression in Renal Diseases |
Author : Rolf Bambauer |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) with hollow fiber modules is used in different severe diseases since more than 40 years. The authors try to give an overview of therapeutic apheresis (TA) in renal diseases. The updated information on immunology and molecular biology of different renal diseases are discussed in relation to the rationale for apheresis therapy and its place in combination with other modern treatments. The different renal diseases can be treated by various apheresis methods such as TPE with substitution solution, or with online plasma or blood purification using adsorption columns, which contain biological or non-biological agents. The following diseases are discussed: rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN) including anti-glomerular basement membrane antibody glomerulonephritis (anti-GBM RPGN), RPGN with or without glomerular deposition (ANCA-ab), pauci-immune RPGN, immune complex nephritis (ICN), and various glomerulonephritis with nephrotic syndrome (NS), acute kidney injury (AKI), myoglobulinemic renal failure, hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), and kidney transplant rejection. For the renal diseases, which can be treated with TA, the guidelines of the Apheresis Applications Committee (AAC) of the American Society for Apheresis (ASFA) are shown. |

Neurotheology: Insights on the relationship between the brain and religion through the Life and Ministry of St. Paul the Apostle |
Author : Mina Sherif Soliman Georgy |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Can we see God? No, we cant.
But can we see His presence in the brain? The answer is perplexing.
It is said that generally, anything that affects, must be there to cause this effect, and this is the main purpose of Neurotheology: finding God within the brain cells and understanding how religiosity and spirituality affect the brain.
As well as understanding what is the kind of relationship between both of them on the neurobiological and neuropsychiatric scale aided by the modern advances in neurobiological investigations and neuropsychiatric assessments. |

Preliminary results from the Scientific Researching project “Direct Fiscal cost – benefit for the Smoking in Cuba” |
Author : Fé Fernández Hernández |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Background: The academic development becomes stronger by including the scientific results to the teaching process. The academic research project checking is a constant need from the university context.
Objective: To value the behavior from the academic research project “Direct fiscal cost – benefit for the smoking in Cuba”.
Materials and Methods: Was made a descriptive research from the result obtained by the academic research project “Cost – benefit direct fiscal from smoking in Cuba”. As theoric methods were used the historical – logical, the comparative and the inductive – deductive. As empiric method was used the bibliographic research.
Results: The project had an extended scientific production. It is leasing the research about smoking economic benefits and it suggest make an extensive practice validation from the proposes in other health institutions where smoking is an important risk factor.
Conclusions: The academic research project “Cost – benefit direct fiscal from smoking in Cuba” had obtained important results that show the smoking social costs in the researched population. However is leasing the description and accounting from the smoking economic benefits to estimate the cost – benefit relation. A closer relation with other health institutions might obtain present primary information and an extended practice validation. |
