An Observational Study of Bovine Pericardial Patch Angioplasty as a surgical option for Infected Aortic Aneurysms |
Author : Hideyuki Harada |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Background: An infected aortic aneurysm (IAA) is a rare and life-threatening disease. The aim of this study is to elucidate mid-term outcomes of IAA, incorporating patch angioplasty with bovine pericardium.
Materials and Methods: Between June 2011 and August 2020, eight patients (one woman, seven men) with infected aneurysms of the thoracic and abdominal aorta were treated surgically.
Results: There was no surgical/hospital death. There were two late deaths at follow-up. One patient (patient 6) was re-admitted to the hospital with vomiting blood four months after surgery and died despite treatment. Another patient (patient 5) died at his home 12 months after surgery, and the cause of death was unknown. Six patients remained alive with no evidence of recurrent aneurysm formation due to infection at a mean follow-up of 70.3 (range, 13-110) months.
Conclusions: BPPA could be one of the surgical options for IAA, especially in patients with severe adhesion around the aneurysm. |

A case report pemphigoid gestational case, responding to systemic steroid therapy |
Author : Selma Bakar Dertlioglu |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :In this case report, a rare case of Pemphigoid Gestationis at 33 weeks’ of gestation is presented and the related literature is briefly reviewed. A 21-year-old at 33 weeks’ of gestation admitted with the complain of itchy skin lesions on the abdomen, arms and legs. Dermatologic examination revealed urticaria papules and plaques in the abdomen, arms and legs, more intensely around the umbilicus, which range from 1-2 cm diameter to 4-5 cm diameter. Papulovesicular lesions and few erosions were observed especially in the hand and foot dorsals.
Spongiosis on epidermis, intracellular and subepidermal bullae formation, edema on papillary architecture and inflammatory infiltrate composed of mononuclear cells and eosinophils around the perivascular ares of the upper dermis were seen in histological examination. Direct immunofluorescence of perilesional skin showed linear deposition of complement (C3) along the basement membrane zone. The preliminary diagnosis of pemphigoid gestationis was confirmed by histopathologic findings.
Pemphigoid gestationis is a rare autoimmune bullous dermatosis that begins in the second or third trimester of pregnancy. Healing occurs weeks after birth. It occurs more severely in subsequent pregnancies. Its main treatment is systemic steroid and antihistamine administration.
A multidisciplinary approach both in dermatological and gynecological terms is required for the diagnosis, treatment and course of the disease. |

The Use of the Low-Intensity Laser Therapy (LLLT) Technique for Face Burning |
Author : Regina Maria Raffaele |
Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :This work describes a case report by the Hospital Dentistry team of the Beneficent Association of Campo Grande Santa Casa MS, where a patient presented with a burn caused by the explosion of the carbon dioxide gas (Co2) through the inhalation of the vapor with acute physical changes, which resulted in burns that reached approximately 10% of the anterior area of the skull with involvement of the cervical and pharyngeal region. Admitted under Orotracheal Intubation, he was treated using the LLLT technique with the use of the InGaAIP low intensity laser on the injured tissues. Through a multi professional approach, using the Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) technique as a therapeutic alternative for the treatment of burn injuries of the periorbital region, lips and oral cavity, with the daily monitoring of the patient and regular on-site applications of laser therapy, there was a significant improvement in the injured region, and healing with rapid evolution, in addition to analgesia with reduced bleeding and site inflammation. |

Abstract | Full Text |
Abstract :Background. Smoking is given by the tobacco consumption. Thus all smoking economic benefits are based on this fact. Some economic sectors are benefited from the smoking economic impact over the health services demand. The magnitude of these economic benefits is given by the relevancy from the effective demand of health services attributable to smoking.
Objective. To describe the main economic benefits attributable to smoking.
Materials and methods. As theoric methods were used the historic – logic the inductive – deductive and the comparative. As empiric method it used the bibliographic research.
Results. The financial resources able to access to the health services may be limited by the same reason that motive the health service demand: the smoking. One of the more singular economic benefits from smoking is given by the smoker earlier death. The smoker over-mortality carries to reduce the demand of Social Security services to retired people agree to life expectation reduction. Much times the unquestionable health valued isn´t sufficiently considered by fiscal authorities who consider more important at short time the practice value from the smoking economic benefits. That’s why it isn´t sufficient with the understanding and acknowledge from the smoking impact over the life quality and life expectation.
Conclusion. The social and the human development may not be supported in the existence of a risk factor that reduces the life value reducing the health quality and life expectative at same time, which raise the living cost and favor to a reduced people number across the addiction to the nicotine. |
