Employee Perceptions of CSR & Moral Virtues Justice: A Case of Financial Services | Author : Oscar Jerome Stewart , Dr. Anita Blanchard | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is important to employees, who are concerned about their employer’s ethical behavior and performance beyond creating shareholder value. Using a constructivist lens, we study how employees in financial services perceive and construct CSR. The study provides two main contributions. First, we demonstrate that, given our study context, employees may conceptualize the targets of CSR primarily as the business’ external stakeholders – mainly communities, customers, and society. Employee discussion of CSR targets did not emphasize employees, the natural environment, or legal compliance. Second, when evaluating CSR, employees rely on considerations of strategic imperatives in tandem with ideas of third-party fairness. In other words, while the business case for CSR is important to employees, it is insufficient to justify CSR. |
| Systematic Analysis of Compensation Mix Literature: A Forgotten Area or an Oversight? | Author : Rita Sarkodie Baffoe , Dr. Kofi Amponsah- Bediako | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The compensation ratio is the proportion in the workers compensation scheme of financial and non-financial benefits. The word has seen little study despite calls from incentive researchers. This paper conducts a detailed review of the literature on compensation mix, with special emphasis on its dimensions and components, and delves into the existing gaps in the literature on the topic. Usage of a systematic review methodology as a research design in which synthesis identifies, analyzes and summarizes relevant literature in order to obtain evidence of the underlying factors in order to perform a more thorough analysis of the subject area.
The paper finds that it is important to look at a broader definition covering all components of the compensation mix/reward mix, because of its diverse existence and compensation organizational dimensions, various metrics have been used by researchers to calculate compensation mix without any framework emerging. The paper concludes that more comprehensive research is needed in the area of the compensation mix because most of the field research focuses on executive compensation and the gap remains on the need to increase current knowledge of the concept |
| “If you build it, will they come?” Chargepoint, Inc. And The Future Of The Electric Vehicle Charging Station Market: Parts A and B | Author : Hector Dominguez , Tameka Irby , Adva Dinur , Herbert Sherman | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :The manufacturing and sales of Electric Vehicles (EV) has been growing rapidly in the last few years. This growth is expected to continue increasing in the years to come, as car manufacturers are becoming more environmentally conscious and are adapting to the future trends. With this growing trend, the networks of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) will need to expand to be able to supply electricity to all the EV entering the market. The purpose of this field case analysis is to investigate the EVCS market and its competitive situation by analyzing one of the biggest players in the industry, ChargePoint. This two part case, driven through the eyes of a potential buyer of an EV and investor in ChargePoint stock, will provide an overview of ChargePoint, and in-depth internal and external analysis of the company and the industry in which it operates. It will examine current trends, discuss the competitive landscape, and provide some details on the firm’s financial performance. |
| The U.S Monetary Policy Spillover Effect in China and Its Transmission Mechanism | Author : Zhuo Xi | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :With the rapid development and continuous advancement of economic globalization, the links between countries around the world have become increasingly tight. Among them, the United States, as the worlds largest economy, its monetary policy is bound to cause significant spillover effects on other economies around the world. By constructing a Threshold SVAR model with monthly data from 1996 to 2019, this paper empirically investigates the spillover effects of US monetary policy on Chinas economy during different U.S policy regimes. The transmission mechanism of such effects has been examed through different channels including policy channel, trade channel, asset value channel and information channel. The estimated threshold values of the Fed Fund rates/Shadow rates are between 0.905-0.990, which coincides with the unconventional policy period of U.S monetary policy. Also, the responses of different channels to U.S. monetary shocks in the lower regime(unconventional time) are different from those responses in the upper regime(conventional time). |
| An Examination of the Impact of Corporate Governance on Corporate Investment Decisions | Author : Dan Lin, Lu Lin | Abstract | Full Text | Abstract :Investment decisions are one of the most important financial decisions made by firms managers. A wrong decision may threaten the survival of a firm. However, due to agency problems, managers do not always act in the best interest of the shareholders or make investments decisions that maximize shareholders wealth. While existing literature has shown that good corporate governance practices can reduce the agency problem, it is the aim of this study to examine if corporate governance mechanisms can increase the investment allocative efficiency and ensure that scarce funds are transferred to investment projects that generate high returns. Based on a sample of non-financial Canadian listed companies, this study documents an inverse relationship between corporate governance and investment decisions. The results confirm that rigorous corporate governance practices can prevent managers from overinvestment |
